I just bought a 46" 10 guage barrel for a new shotgun. A little bigger than Colt Commander length.

...and that the most reliable Glock says “HK” on the side.

I’ve never, not once, had a malfunction with the USP series. Come to think of it - I’m not sure I’ve ever had a malfunction of any kind with a HK.

I definitely cannot say that about Glock, or most 1911s.

Our Glocks have been like machines....we are still using some on the training cycle that arrived here in 1996. The only issues I have encountered with any regularity have been ammunition (we reload on commercial machines) and at one point, a bunch of worn out magazines.

The ADF SF types use the USP in 9mm, they seem fond of them but I had a table of the failures available to me at one point, it was nothing you would not expect from hard run firearms. Big Army just keeps buying BHPs while the Air Farce uses Glock 19s to a larger degree. I am not sure what 9mm ball the ADF issue these days, but for many years it was the locally made Mk2z, think as hot if not hotter than the Izzy "Black Tip" that you may be familiar with. It accelerates wear on anything it is run in except the SMGs it was designed for.

I LOVE 1911s, I have own them for years, I enjoy shooting them, I just don't see the attraction as a working tool anymore (nor does much of the world bar the US wink :p and even the Marines replaced them with Glocks....LOL). Does that mean I would knock back any quality 1911 I was offered...HELL NO....would it EVER be my first choice...not ever.

Andy, I can't say that. But then again I don't run like you guys do. For me, the 1911 is THE handgun, except for my old Sig P225 single stack 9mm. That gun is second place only for because it is in 9mm. AND contrary to a lot of you guys, the full size 1911 is great, but the CMD length just seems to feel better, balance better for me.

I used to have a Colt Officer's model around 1986 and a Detonics. Both had about 3" or 3.5" barrels and a shorter grip frame. Very nice for carry.

If I can have only one....it would always and without question be a C series BHP. Dieudonné Saive took JMBs work/design and incorporated his leaning from the 1911 errors... wink

And to be clear, I am not at all "bashing" 1911s, when the laws changed here I had the choice of being paid out several thousand $$s (that I could have happily gone on and invested in Glocks laugh ) for my custom jobby or spending several hundred more $s on it and doing the new match barrel and caliber conversion so I could keep it. I chose the later and don't regret it for a minute !!
