What do you dogs think about it? Although we don't like it, there are times where/when a firearm or knife can not be carried for any reason. If that's the case, what's a sheepdog wink supposed to do? I'll do another post and offer up something.

And another reason I brought this up is that from time to time I have to use a cane for additional support as sometimes due to a past life of abuse my knees and hips just don't want to work right.

I was just checking out one of my favorite sites and thought I would post a link here for anyone that uses a cane or would just like a high quality cane or staff for actual use or for fending off those that might cause trouble (when a firearm can't be carried or for those that don't want to carry a defensive handgun)
https://www.canemasters.com/

I have had one of their triple grip canes for many years and I'll tell you, they ARE high quality. They are NOT cheap but they will last you for many years, even if you were to have to use one in a defensive situation. Besides that, they're just neat to look at.

Definitely a neat idea and when I’m old enough to get away with carrying one I might just do that.

Haha, there is NO age restrictions on a cane Mike, nor is there any laws (that I have ever heard of) banning the use of one, for ANY reason. Besides that you could get a top hat and tails and be "Puttin on the Ritz"!

Canes are a valid self defense tool. Although Cane Masters sells great canes, I never bought one because of the restrictive area I live in (the cane obviously looks like a weapon) and I have a good quality hickory cane from my grandfather. Oh, also because I am a cheapskate. I did buy one of their self defense videos though. Sadly, nowadays if I lift up the cane to defend myself, I would probably fall over. So, I never go out unless my wife is with me. She is a feisty little devil and 14 years younger than me. grin

Oh, so you just like Tom are a cradle robber. Glad to see that it has lasted for you guys. We had a city Chief of Police (not where I live) that married a girl, and when she was old enough to drink legally she divorced him! And just as further info, he was 51 when they got married and she was 16. They had one kid together.

I have had a Cold Steel sword cane for years, and it really is a formidable weapon. It has the older triangular shaped blade with a very sharp point, and a heavy stainless steel knob. It would do considerable damage using either end. wink

I have threatened to get one of those, but didn't know how they would hold up IF you were to actually use them as a cane.

Ahem…yes…self defense is the only reason I use a cane grin

I've had to use one for about 4 years now. I chose a stout, lightweight, wooden one made from the stem and root of a tree in no small part because the handle makes an excellent self-defense tool at the end of a weapon with reach. That, and it makes me look more like I'm prepping for a hike, and less like a crippled old man grin

I gave my mom one a couple years before she passed away. I think my sister grabbed it after the funeral. Mine is a sumac I believe. I've beat it like I stole it. Lightweight, fast in hand, and hard (as my kids will attest to, having been (lightly) rapped with the handle when they misbehave in occasion grin )

I've heard that Sumac is great for something like that. Didn't they used to use sumac for golf club heads, or am I just delusional again.

Actually I do have a cane for that purpose. You should be able to take them on panes.

A simple crook cane with a small angular cut on the crook end is a healthy tool for defense.

I have the Cane Masters Triple Grip (not sure if they make it any more) and It is sweet. Has three sets of "grips" down the shaft and is over an inch in diameter with a wicked birds beak at the end of the crook. I just this past week saturated it with some Old English "Scratch hider" for dark wood. Looks pretty nice I think, Before it was a lighter color. Anyway I used the old english on it and then let it dry for a day or two then really slathered on the Mineral Oil. I will wait until later on sometime this week and give it another coat of oil. I paid to much to let it get all dried out and cracked. I've had mine for over 10 years and got it in Hickory. AND I didn't pay the present price for it. I THINK I paid about 75 or 85 dollars for it. I wanted something that would support my at the time 280 pounds AND be good for protection. Mine is not the extended one. On mine the three gripping areas are completely separate.

For the prices they charge now, it better stay the night and make you breakfast in the morning too!

With all the below and whistles, that sucker runs close to some decent pistols, or enough to build a decent upper (well, decent by my standards, anyway) grin

Yeah I've noticed that the prices have gone up a little. grin

That's why I plan on keeping mine oiled up and in good shape. If I ever do need to constantly use a cane I will alternate between that one and a "regular" one made of hickory as well, but not any where as robust as the Triple grip. But I DO like it better, maybe it's the color (kinda subdued red).

As the old saying goes ... "beats a sharp stick in the eye". Based upon that ... hide a sharpened end under one of those rubber "caps" on the end of your cane. Maybe stick a nickel or quarter in the rubber "cup" to keep the sharp end from poking through.

When Joe Gangbanger shows up and wants to take your Fruit Roll Up money .. use your ninja reflexes to pull the rubber cap off revealing the Devil's Dart and force Joe to run to the cork store. You know, to plug all of his new holes.

I THINK you can buy a sharpened steel spike for them, maybe. But if you look closely that birds beak end on the crook is a pretty nasty piece of work itself.

I have practiced some blocks and locks (I know that a video isn't the same as actual one on one practice, but it's better than nothing) and just all out hay makers with mine and it will make any bad guys it connects with have second thoughts.
