Personally I also like a .45. First pistol I ever bought was an H&R Sidkick with a 2 inch barrel. Couldn't hit a barn at 2 feet with that thing! (I was 16 when I bought it). My next was a Llama 45. Not the most accurate either, but got me enamored with the mighty 45!

If 10mm ammunition wasn't $1.50 / round (when you can find it loaded to real 10mm levels...not 40SW levels) I wouldn't own a 45Acp. There isn't anything a 45Acp can do that a 10mm cannot do better.

10mm is an ideal round for people who live in rural areas. It is probably less than ideal for urbanites. Over penetration could be an issue in a crowd.

Gary, when the whole Bren 10 thing started I thought the problem with the 10mm was that it had to much recoil for the "Average" cop.

Since 10mm is so expensive I have a couple of HKs in 45Acp. They're not the best gun for concealed carry, but I appreciate the quality, 100% reliability, and extreme durability / lifespan. The HK USP 45 and HK45 Series are the Busse of the handgun world. There are prettier, and more expensive...but not really anything that is better (overall).

The best shooting handgun I've ever owned was a 45Acp. Les Baer.

I think the 10mm is a GREAT round, but I always considered it a hunting round even though it never really was intended to be. It's a shame it never really gained very much popularity, but it looks like that might be changing.

The FBI issued the S&W 1006 uniformly to all agents. Small statured female agents complained about the recoil. Companies responded by reducing the powder charge to 40SW levels. Someone relized there was unused case capacity and cut it down...suddenly the 40 Short & Weak was born.

I've owned 25-30 40SW handguns, and three 10mm. I cannot tell much of a difference shooting 175gr Silvertip Hollow Points through a Glock 20SF as compared to shooting 180gr Hydrashoks through a Glock 23.

I've sold all of my 40SWs because I didn't like the recoil. I know this sounds hypocritical, but consider this...

The 40Sw is typically squeezed into a 9mm package while the 10mm is typically rattling around in a 45Acp package. The larger frame more than makes up the difference in the 10mm's recoil.

10mm recoil is exaggerated on the errornets. Its much like the so called stopping power of the 45acp. Does a 10mm recoil more than a 9mm? Yes. However, a medium frame 357 Mag is MUCH worse. MUCH MUCH worse. Does the 45Acp have the ability to stop an assailant? Yes. Will it "blow him clean off his feet" (as I've read repeatedly). Absolutely not. Shot placement, bullet selection, clothing penetrated, etc all contribute to the success or failure of the round's performance.

I've only shot one .40, and I HATED the recoil. The plate in my wrist didn't like that snappy little round, and I have no problem tolerating full house .44 mag loads.

The problem with 10mm is the availability of full house ammo. If Federal or someone similar would start offering 175gr x 1250pfs ammo consistently....you'd see a whole lot of 45Acps going up for sale. Unfortunately, nobody seems interested in offering a good cartridge.

Agreed. 40SW recoil is "abrupt". Many people complain about it. 10mm is nothing like it.

45Acp tend to "push".
9mm tend to "muzzle flip".
40SW tend to "snap".
10mm tend to be a combination of 9 and 45. They sort of "push up and back quickly".

My LEAST favorite non-hunting HG round is 38 Special. This is because of the guns chambered for it. An Airweight J-Frame with +P ammo SUCKS in the recoil department. If I were to have a full size 357 bore revolver it would be a 357 Mag that I shot 38Spl through for fun. This, in my opinion, is the only purpose for the round.

I carried a Smith J-Frame as a BUG for A LOT of years. Hate them.
