I know we have a few older members... wink wink andas Iíve been shooting competitively
Iíve been more and more exposed and have been able to shoot pistols with red dots on them. I honestly believe that no matter your age this is definitely the way of the future.
Whatís your guyís thoughts and experiences?

They ARE nice. I have an Aimpoint Comp M2 on my Beretta CX4 9mm carbine and it IS nice. Now on a CCW Gun, I'm not sure.

I've learned it's best to do this indoors...you're less likely to have the cops called on you.

Seriously though, I have red dots on two revolvers that I use for hunting--a stainless Blackhawk 357 with a 6.5" barrel and a stainless Blackhawk 44 Mag with a 10.5" barrel. They make for some accurate shooting.

I took out a 5 lbs squirrel on a tree at about 40-50 yards with the 44 once. Right behind the front shoulder. Yes, the squirrel weighed about 5 lbs and was about 30-32" nose to tail tip. Nothing but soup inside...

Other than that, or if I were doing competition, I'd be wary of them. They make the gun a lot bigger and less reliable when trying to conceal. The battery is one more thing to fail. If they could make one with a 50 year perpetual use battery that won't leak or explode, then I'd be whistling a different tune.

Look at dots like the Trijicon RMR and the Leupold Delta Point Pro.
These dots are getting incredibly tough as well as they have excellent battery life
Not that difficult to CCW with either. More and more PDs are allowing them on duty guns due to the benifits they have to offer

Let me add on to my original statement...

"...and they come down in price to about $100 for the ones that last 50 years..."

I like them for plinking and hunting. I would not bet my life on one since Iím not on ACDU so the government doesnít pay for them or the batteries.
