So what's the deal with these knives? I found this website. Decided, I'd try one out and cant order one? WTF?

Do these blades contain enough carbon in the steel to rust?

Will they hold an edge? Hold up To HEAVY use or are they just collectibles?

Primarily be using them to split the Pelvis on deer during the cleaning process. I like to lay a blade on the pelvis and HAMMER it through with a rock. Will they hold up or are they just hype? I clean a bunch of deer throughout the year for City Slickers who pay for the experience and dont want to waste my money on Crap that isn't any good.

I use Moore Maker's Liner Lock Folding trapper 4 1/2, for all my skinning/ gutting needs. Best steel I have used as of yet.

I use an old Ka-bar to split the pelvises. It's worn so bad, I have to retire it this season.

I think the Street Scrapper 4 or Scrapper 6 would both work well and survive the abuse.

These knives perform.

Look at the guarantee.

The reason you can't order a knife is that the company sells out a production run very quickly.

The Street Scrapper 4's sold out in about 3 days. They were popular because of their Infi steel. They were a one time deal, if you want one, try the exchange on Blade forum, be prepared to spend $200+.

The Scrapper 6 sold out and we are waiting on the next production run.

The Dog Father is due to be released very soon, they should sell quickly.

Another option is the Swamp Rat Howling Rat LM. Swamp Rat should have more available soon but presently they are sold out.

Lastly you might want to look at a Busse Game Warden or the new Badger Attack Tac. If you can wait, the Badger is a lot of Infi for the money. I just bought a Busse Muddy Skeleton Warden on the Blade forum exchange for $180, so they can be had.

If you are looking for a knife that just cuts, a Busse/Swamp Rat/Scrap Yard might not impress but if you want a knife that can chop through a cinder block without breaking and still cut, you have found the right place.

Arf arf arf... That's my other dog impression.

I think you came to the right place. The thread with the dogfather pics is (I think) the one with the cinderblock smashing test.

That is what I am looking for a HIGH carbon steel knife that will still cut after taking a hammering. I HATE stainless steel, mainly because i've not found any that would readily take and keep an edge with everyday HARD use.

So how long before another "Production Run" on the scrapper 6? That's the ideal blade size. anything bigger would be USELESS to me. I've got until next deer season, so I'm not in a hurry. I refuse to pay someones second hand price that is inflated over what it originally cost from the "git go". Especially on a working knife.

Do they take orders? Or is it just a Hope like hell you get one or pay the inflated price from a "Collector"? Before I do that, I'd just get another Ka-bar.

High carbon steel is fine, the Busse Family of companies use better alloys.

Busse used A2 back in the 80's and 90's, then he swiched to Infi which is close to stainless but performs better than many tool steels.

He experimented with 52100 steel, a ball bearing alloy. It performed well and was spun off to Swamp Rat knife works. They make a knife called the Mischeif 6 which is very similar to the Scrapper 6 except with a full tang and micarta scales.

Scrap Yard is mainly making knives using a modified S7 tool steel alloy.

The Scrapper 6's should be back within a few months. Keep your eyes open and you will be able to get one for retail price.

Arf arf arf... That's my other dog impression.

Chaos - Howdy and Welcome to the Scrap Yard!

I think Oddball did a great summation of this Company and its products. You will not be disappointed, as they are definitely the "real thing" and worth the wait! Tom

Welcome to the Yard chaos! My recommendation is to steer clear of Scrap Yard knives and all knives from any Busse run company because:

1. They are addicting and the addiction can be caught with a very limited exposure to the knives.
2. They will spoil you. Once you get out and use one of these puppies, you will never be happy with "those other brands" again.
3. If you don't buy any there will be that much more for me!

But seriously, you can't go wrong with any of the Busse companies products and the Scrap Yard line is the least expensive of the bunch so it is a great way to get high performance knives at a great price.

I love 'em and hope you will to.

If I do get one, If the scrapper6 or something colse to the size. I will put it through the paces and give my honest opinion on it.

I emailed the contact asking a bit about how to get one of these and haven't received a response yet.

How do you guys know what the upcoming knife releases are going to be if they dont take Pre-orders? or do they take pre-orders?

I dont mind waiting for a blade, but just sitting around and hoping that one will materialize is not what I am about. I dont watn to wait 6 or 8 months only to find that they are not going to make anymore of them. How do you guys figure this out? Secret handshake or something?

The Dog Father is going to be released next, Dan is suppposed to give us 24 hour notice on its release, but it is too large for your needs.

There are threads with pictures of the blades to be release throughout the year, but there is ALOT of waiting. Almost like the Military...hurry up and wait! You have a PM

The Badger Attack is 'Busse' but very expensive.. It is INFI which is superb carbon tool steel that doesn't rust! A lot of guys here rave about 'Ranger' knives, a Guy called Justin (Gingritch or something similar) makes them. I don't know much more than that.. sorry!

Patti said a while ago the S6 would return, but no timing was ever given.

Ok, I guess it will return then. I wish they would give a time frame as I am not a computer commando and not online every day. I guess it just sucks to be me?

Wait and see about the next batch of Scrapper 6. I think that they ARE worth the wait, but that is me.
If you do not want to wait, then get a Busse or a Ranger.

It is almost rust proof...they are very rust resistant, but I have had light....very light...rust on one of mine.

I hate stainless as well, the S7 and INFI the Busse boys use is a carbon steel with vanadium and other additives to make it better.

I sold off ALL my Barkies, because I LOVE Scrap Yard Knives so much, I did not feel that I needed them any more. The only FB's I own are Scrap Yard Knives , Ranger Knives (I had them for awhile) and my Customs. No more Barkies!

Tony the CG S6 will probably be your favorite knife once you get one. Unless you need a monster chopper you'll probably like it better than the DF, however you should get a DF too to be able to decide! The DF is a future classic. The S6 already is IMHO!!
