Howdy Gang
I got my first Scrapyard knife the other day,
a Muddy Puppy LE.
Great knife!
I got it on the secondary market for a very good price.
It was "new".
The knife didnt seem really sharp, just seemed like it was honed rather
roughly and that was it.
I touched it on the extrafine diamond stone and now want to "strop" it
on some leather with jewelers rouge.
I have never had a knife made from 154-CM. The edge looks like it has
very fine scratches in it.
I have been stropping this thing for half an hour and seems
I havent done a thing.
Is this steel that "hard"? Maybe I need to give it a few more
minutes on the diamond stone again...
The knife feels sharp, but that edge is not polished like it should be.
Does 154-cm polish up smooth like other steel?
Thanks...

(cant wait for my SOD!!!)

Oh yes, 154CM is very hard and hard to sharpen, especially if it has never been really sharp before. It will polish up to a mirror, but it takes either a lot of time or a belt sander. Once you get it sharp, it will take and hold a super fine edge for a long time. It is best to keep it sharp with occasional stropping rather than let it get dull and have to go through it all again. I used to hate this steel until I found out how outstanding the edge retention is. Now I appreciate this hard fine steel, especially in the smaller blades like the Mud Puppy. I'd use that diamond shapener to thin the edge down, and then finish with a strop. Just keep at it. You'll eventually get there.

Oh, welcome to the yard, FuGaWee

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Welcome to the Yard, FuGaWee.

154cm can be a challenge to get the edge the way you want it in the beginning. Just be patient and keep at it, you'll get there.
