OK lads, lets do a poll to see which SYK needs to come back SOON?
We have all these new sweet fancy designs upon us but I also believe we need to keep it real & pay respect to where it all started. Scrapper 6, Dumpster Mutt, Dogfather etc.
We'll keep it simple so CG & SR-77 steel will be the pick in this poll.
I have only listed the older knives which I felt would be realistic for a re-run.

Personally I feel Scrap Yard NEED to do a run of Scrapper 6's, Dumpster Mutts & Dog Fathers at least once a year, with S6's & CGDM's first on my list. What about you?

Which 2 need to come back?
multiple choice, up to 2 choices
Votes accepted starting: 05/14/09 10:31 AM
You must vote before you can view the results of this poll.

338, it just rolls off the tongue.

Honestly, I see nothing there that I absolutely NEED to have. I guess the dogfather would be cool, scrapper 6 isn't different enough from the S5 for me to care, dumpster mutt doesn't fit my needs, and yard keeper and guard just don't work for me in SR-77.

Much rather have a SOD release than any of those.

i completely disagree and if any knives should be around all the time, they should be the smaller stainless models. how bout a mud puppy combat grade?

i like seeing new stuff all the time and being limited and exclusive adds to the value and mystique of the Busse family.

I voted S6 and DM...But I think variations of the originals would be best. What allows these knives to hold their value is that they are available for a short time and then no longer available after that. That helps them retain their value.
If they were constantly being re-released that would go away as anyone could buy a classic by just waiting for the next release of a particular classic. So, I vote for releasing variations of the classics but not the originals. Leave those for the secondary market.

If the S5 is any indication of the newer styles to come...then I say let them continue on that track. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Good poll! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Fare comment, & maybe another poll on stainless Vs coated(CG). And another good call on the CGMP <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

OK, maybe we(forum members) could get an option from Scrap Yard on some of the older & newer models we lust after. Now that would be sweet <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

338, it just rolls off the tongue.

As much as I want/like the classics, I'm all for new things as well. A run of either of those every now and then would be awesome, but I want a Scrap Yard Sword and Khukuri already!!

I voted for the DM and DF by the way.

Although I already have them, I voted DogFather and S6. It would be nice for newer Dogs to have a chance at the truly great blades! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Why would I vote for yet another Dog Father? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Greed? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Need? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Succeed? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

God Speed. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

I would jump on another DFCG in a heartbeat. This one I would keep in a Ziplok bag and watch it as I grow old. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

The original DFCG is a weekend EDC for me here. I whack 4' tall weeds, dead branches on pines, and even stump out old shrubs with mine. I stripped it clean during a Horn Dog strip-fest a couple years back and since the week after I did it I wished I had left it to wear evenly. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

The CG was wearing wonderfully and I always wondered how it would look in years.

Perhaps if Dan made another run of them I would open the Ziplok and live. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Bring it back one more time Dan! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

Peace.

i like this poll. i voted for the DMCG (of course) and the DFCG. i hated not picking the S6 because i think it is one of the best knives made, all around. But I just cant deny my love for the thick, DFCG and how much i really want to score a new one of these, so i had to vote for that!

there was no DMCG option RS.
the DM itself has been brought back MANY times by Dan.

I voted s6 because that's the size knife I like right now...
and I'm angry that i never got one. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I've already got a Scrapper 6 and Yard Keeper and don't care for the handles on the Dumster Mutt. Don't like or dislike the Yard Guard. The Dog Father would be my choice but is to expensive to buy privately right now. We'll see! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" />

there was no DMCG option RS.
the DM itself has been brought back MANY times by Dan.

and since this is a completely subjective question or poll, who cares? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Secondly, since Dan has brought this variant back the most, what does that tell you? Its pretty damned popular and that is IS 1 of if not THE MOST versatile knife the Yard has put out.

How about the Scrapyard re-releasing the Swamprat classics, makes sense to me now they are the sole users of Res-C and now even have some SR101 !

What d'ya say.....Howling Rats, Bandicoots, Camp Tramps ???????????

i wouldnt mind seeing this either man. id like to get a thick piece of SR101 with Res-C handles with a Yard stamp on it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Actually, it only tells me it is profitable. Popular I would agree with though...

I ended up voting for the DF. My results are the same as the poll. DF, then S6, then I don't care because I own a version of the other 3 <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I guess not everybody needs a sharpened pry bar with a small handle.

Or most people have one. It is the most common SY release <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I guess not everybody needs a sharpened pry bar with a small handle. That's not to say that you're wrong for loving your DM. It's simply to say that you're clearly in the minority in considering it to be the most versatile knife the Yard has put out. But I encourage you to keep up the good fight anyway! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I wonder if those others, who DON'T think the DM is the most versatile knife ever, have actually USED one? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I'll admit, I'm mildly curious to use one, but I also use knives primarily for cutting, and so the "sharpened pry bar" category has little appeal for me to spend my hard-earned money. Might end up grabbing one at some point anyways, just so I can form my own opinion on the knife after actually, you know, using it. I can guarantee *my* DM wouldn't keep that nifty factory coating looking nice for more than a few days.

RS: I'm just saying man...
the DM has been brought back a lot and I remember some dogs were almost sick of them.

and honestly something like a DMLE or something is a LOT different than the DMCG.

and once again, (I've said it before) i would NOT call the DM (the DMCG to be more specific) versatile.
not saying it doesn't perform... but that it IS suited to prying and busting through stuff... not more general cutting tasks that other knives (or even other DM variations) can do.
now I've never used one myself, I'll be honest... but i don't need to, to know that it's not going to suit any of my needs better than a knife similar to an s5 or something.

now for you it may suit YOUR needs... whatever they may be,
but I would say you are a minority on that one.

I used mine one hell of a lot, if ya want a knife to batton through everything you can think of then get one but if ya want a knife to cut and slice then think twice....nearly rhymes !!!!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

IMO the Ratmandu is a far more versatile knife and still plenty tough !!!!

I prefer the Ratmandu as well. It cuts better. But for prying open a jammed door on a HumVee, the DM would be hard to beat in a small knife.

The RMD is a good solid design no doubt but I do think he DMDC has a much sweeter feel in ALL hand positions. But saying that, I did have a G10 version. I felt that this model did not provide enough grip with wet hands. The micarta version would be my choice in the RMD.
At the end of the day just give me a Dumpster Mutt with Res C & SR-77 <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
