So we came across a wood/brush pile and needed to cut out some long pieces for a shelter. Couldn't get a chopper in deep enough. My Sven saw couldn't get in there. My buddy had a folding saw that did the trick. So, now I want to add one to my gear list.

Any recommendations for a Sierra saw type folder? I want something that will last with good steel.

Another +1 for Silky.

I have a Silky Pocketboy 170 that I like a lot. I also keep a band saw in the camping bag (from Home Depot) for the bigger logs.

Kershaw (also packaged as the Bahco Laplander) folding saw.

It eats logs for breakfast! Love it. You can find them for less then $20.

SOG is coming out with a new and interesting one,

[Linked Image from img.photobucket.com]
The blade locks open - and locks closed - by means of the rocker switch on the spine. 8-1/4" blade length
suppose to be out next month for around 20 usd

Everyone I know praises the Laplander saw

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if you don't take it out and use it, it's going to rust.

I have a couple of Silky saws and they are really nice.

I'd like to check out the Laplander saws too.

The Silky in Pink's photo looks enormous (is there a smaller version?) The Kershaw is great for backpacking.

Also, the Kershaw is exactly the same as the Laplander.

Swedish steel.

I ordered a Silky Gomboy 240 medium teeth on ebay. Had some ebay bucks that I needed to use up so got it for $22 shipped. I decided that the slightly longer (9 1/2 inch) blade would be nice and the medium teeth most versitile.

I like the looks of those smaller Pocket Boys also for light hikes. Then I'll be completely covered....or WILL I? Just one more thing to add to my list of addictions???

Good luck with the Silky, I just joined this forum as I have just got into the Busse family of knives recently. Not too long ago I posted a thread on the survivalist boards about my preference for a folder. I am a construction carpenter and after trying out a number of folding saws to carry in my nail bags for daily use as well as for hunting and camping trips, my best so far is the Craftsman folding utility saw. I have used one daily during work season for better than 2 years. As long as I don't loan it out to someone that tries to cut a nail or hits concrete it seems to last forever. Also when I have had one go dull I took it into Sears and they handed me a new one. The only bummer is that I'm not sure if Sears is discontinuing them or not. I was in Sears a week ago to look for a belt/disc sander for knife sharpening and kydex sheath making and they didn't have the saw. The clerk looked online and couldn't seem to find them either. Then yesterday I was back in to Sears and they had 2 of the saws, so I bought both of them. These saws cut fast and last a long time. The best I have used, but I have not tried the Silky.
