I generally have a few of these around that I made but just for something to keep in the pack, and only choosing one, (besides a handgun) should it be the folding slingshot with 200 shot or the 26" blowgun with 2 dozen broadhead darts?
Both are effective, accurate and super lightweight but I keep going back and forth on which one to keep packed.
The blowgun is more accurate but the slingshot has more immediate stopping power.

Any thoughts?

So far, the largest game I've taken with a blowdart has been a rabbit and with the wristrocket it was a turkey.
With squirrels it can go either way. Sometimes you can get off a second shot before they take off and other times they vanish into the canopy out of range.

It's just the 4" for shoulder carry. I'd post pics but my camera sat in the truck overnight and it died.
Even the LCD on the back cracked in 2 places.

I won't mention any names, but I hear blow guns don't work too good on crows. Their wings seem to be built our of SR-77 or something. I'd go slingshot.

I would do the slingshot also, I have always had good aim with them. You have almost a limitless supply of ammo also.

Yeah. The more I've been looking at the carry options, the SS is a little easier to tote and the ammo can be found on the ground if need be. THat and the fact that this slingshot fold up on itself and fits in a pouch.
The BG has to slip into the side on my ABag and occasionally gets caught up on branches and vines.

That's it, the SS is going in as the silent killer.

i'd definately go sling shot, it would also be more effective defensively against anything larger, unless the blowgun darts are poisoned. but that just seems unlikely and an accident waiting to happen (long term survival wise/end of world scenario)

Realistically a snare is a great tool for food as well as dead falls. Slingshot isn't a bad deal. I have taken a few rabbits with a throwing stick with decent luck.

Snare wire is great because it can be used for the intended purpose, lashing, or a string on a bow.

Of your two choices a slingshot would be mine choice.

I think I would like to try and make an atlatl sometime. Its an interesting tool

Oh I've got snares and a thousand ways to rig them. The SS is an "I'm out of ammo" back-up or to take something without spooking other small game.
With snares you will ALWAYS have a wait to deal with.

Of course the Regulator is really accurate too. I've gotten quite good over the last few years with the "no-flip" throw for larger fixed blades. I suggest trying it. The Reg. is (for me) the ideal weight for it.

My dad and grandpa told me that in the Philippines, gangs used "flying ice picks" to kill people.

IIRC, they were basically a 12-16" piece of wire that was folded in half and twisted into a straight shaft with an end with a small loop and the other side with the tips of the wire. On the end with the two tips, one would be bent back to catch the slingshot and the other tip would be sharpened. Then they would attatch a piece of leather or string to the back end to stabilize the dart in flight.

Instead of the leather that holds a stone, a wire replaced it and was used to hold on to the piece that was folded back on the dart.

The boys used slingshots for everything from shooting lizards and birds to eat to knocking fruits off of trees. So by the time they were in their teens, they were deadly when using the darts on people.

I imagine you could carry two elastics, one for the darts and one for the stones and steel shot.

You could also make a Hawaiian Sling.

If you want harder hitting ammo, use lead balls. You can buy them for muzzleloaders. You can buy a lead mold and pour your own from old wheel weights or whatever.

Right now I have the Daisy B52 folder. I tossed out the stock tubing for a commercial grade surgical tubing with a much higher breaking strength and it lasts about 20 times as long as the stuff that came on it. The original snapped on me within a month of steady plinking.
