I decided to give the pencil sharpener technique another go but today I'd crush them up after as suggested by Bushman which should help them take a spark even easier.....

3 strikes and we had fire...

I added some clumps of resin that had ran down a nearby tree, this is great stuff to use when everything is damp. As it burns it helps ignite your other tinder.....

And finally, I can't add a post without a pic of my buddies......

It's better to have it & not need it, than to need it & not have it.

Nothing too amazing buddy, just cut your fatwood down with your knife till you can fit it in the pencil sharpener. It makes lots of really fine shaving much quicker and easier than using a knife.Being so fine they take a spark from a ferro rod especially when they are crushed down even further with your hands. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

That pencil sharpener technique looks like a great method. I'm going to have to try it.
