Decided to get one of the cheap ferro rods that I'd spotted and took it out today to try it out.

In this pic you can see how much bigger it is than my Primus one which appears to be exactly the same as the Light my fire one that I had.



I fluffed up some jute and placed it with some fatwood shavings.....



Took a few strikes to get the hang of it but it worked quite well....



Snicker watched on as Maisy swam in after a stick....



She then mobbed her for it when she got back !!!!



The mountains looked cool today....

I found a place to buy just the ferro rods themselves. They have a wide variety of sizes. I swear one looks almost like a large dowel. Price wasn't to bad. They even make them small enough to fit in a wallet without a problem. A little smaller than a coat hanger wire. I may order a few more. Without a handle they are nice to put in kits. They take up almost no space.

Looks like a decent ferro rod. I got a couple cheap ones that work pretty good.
