Last night, I got a light from a "company" called OMG LUMENS! The DEFT FTP is the longest-throwing LED flashlight in the world, and let me tell you, the name OMG LUMENS! is an accurate one. This thing is absurd. It visibly lit up the side of a building 500 feet away, in a snowstorm. And I was on a street with street lamps, so my night vision was shot. Just an amazing, amazing light

Here's the DEFT on the left, with my other favorite thrower, an MG RX-1, on the right:

That was a light using rechargeable 18650 lithium ion cells, which are known for having the potential to explode.

I use only AA and disposable CR123 batteries, for exactly that reason - much less concern about them accidentally going boom if you do something stupid.

How do you like that MG RX-1? I've never heard of them (I'm no flashlight guru), but I'd like a brighter decent quality flashlight than the ones I have, and I saw that the MG RX-1 is not terribly expensive. What's a good place to purchase one at?

I got the RX-1 from shiningbeam.com - I like it a lot, but it's a specialized light. The huge head means it's not very comfortable to pocket, and it's a light designed more for big throw than necessarily maximum brightness. It will light up a room pretty well, though, and is still useful up close, if a bit overkill. It's still more flexible than the DEFT, though - the DEFT is all throw, with very little spill, and way too bulky to carry easily. The RX-1 goes into a jacket pocket fine, and has enough spill to be a better all around light.

If I don't expect to need big throw, though, my Olight T10 is in my pocket far more often than the RX-1. Not as many lumens, but a whole lot more compact.

I,hell probably most of us thought $200 for a knife was <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> at one time.
