Because you're assuming that it is the end times. You may be wrong. Better to have it and not need it...

36"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.

42"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. - Matthew 24:36-44

nah, it's not the end of times, that's the great misconception about the prophecies... but it is time for a great tribulation that will destroy the world... not end it. We've got a long time before Jebus is supposed to come back and, then no details on the hour... like Andy and the man himself said.

WWIII is supposed to rage on for something in the neighborhood of 30 years. after that peace, after that, surprise Jebus morality inspection.

When the situation that Andy describes occurs the world as we know it today will be a living HELL.

However, some would say that it is that way now.

Surviving and Living and two totally separate issues.

Surviving is not all it s crackeup up to be. But Living is!

The end of the world is subjective. I don't think nor believe in a Christian end of the world but having no more cheap oil, that would be the end of the world that we know of.

Actually, there is no REAL shortage of crude oil!... The US Gov has been sitting on about 1/3+ of the world's KNOWN resourse of it (since we purchased Alaska from Russia)... And that's not even counting what we have burried in the ground in barrels... It's mostly/all politics! Stupid [censored] governments!

People spedn too much time worrying about doomsday scenarios when it comes to survivalism. It's much better to focus on realistic and probable events like hurricanes, tornados, flood, power outages, etc.

Very true. Prepare for the likely ones then you will already be prepared for the shtf.

I try to teach my Scouts to not only Survive a situtation but to Thrive in a situation. The act of "Survival" seems to be a defensive action where "Thrive" seems to be more of a offensive action where you take control of the situation.

We go out and practice living off of the land with nothing but a knife, compass, and ferro-rod ( and a cell phone )
