Have I thanked you for your service? If not, I sincerely thank you for defending our country.

On a similar note, where have you served?

Heck, I extend that thanks to all current or retired Active or Reserve Military/LEO. Thanks for your service to our country.

I think that I shall move to the update threads. But I don't think there is any way that yesterdays can be beat.

Sorry, my work attacked me.

You have thanked me, and you are welcome.

I have served all over Africa, the Pacific and the Middle East. I do not deploy for 6 months or a year like other troops/ My mission is to go get the story then come home. This job has me traveling a lot. The scariest place I have ever been was in the Cambodia. We had to cross a mine field to get where we were going. Talk about making your butt pucker.

I love it. I get to taste every side of the military. I have rubbed elbows with 4 star generals, fired a 25 millimeter minigun out the side of a Huey, been locked in a cage and left in the jungle during a SERE course, SCUBA, fired a few artillery rounds, driven a tank, etc etc. I get to see a lot of things most troops don't.

I think I would have tried all I could to have NOT done that story. Crossing a Minefield JUST to get a story? What WERE you thinking Verbena? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

I have been attached to a scout sniper team during a tracking course in the Yanbaru Jungle. Never during an actual mission though. I have been attached to Marine Recon teams for missions and forward observers for artillery. Nothing like hearing 60 pound rounds fly over your head.

That must have been an experience. 60 pounds... I can't imagine the terminal ballistics.

I did try.

I looked at my captain like he was crazy when he asked me to send one of my Marines with the Cambodian guides to get a few photos. I refused to send one, and he said "then you'll have to go corporal." That was easier to deal with than send one of the 18 year old privates I had.

Yeah, I could never put someone else in a state of risk of death intentionally.
