Steeley, when you look at a map of the Aleutians I spent a Year on Shemya Island. 2 miles wide and 4 miles long, 1500 miles from Mainland Alaska!
Man thats quite the distance! Were you posted there for military duty Randy? I do know that I am Aleution Indiana from the Yupik tribe.

Yeah Military duty. 350 miles from the Russian ICBM missile test range on the Kamchatka peninsula. Can't tell you what we did there though cause it was secret, but we did have a 1 MILLION watt radar site pointed west and an Airplane with a VERY sophisticated camera system on it.

Morning Steeley & Jared!

You are doing fine job explaining Randy! Our military is based on the reserve. Practically every job in Finnish army is an officer job. We have two kinds of officers others used to be NCO´s (I guess that´s the right word) and others go to cadet school and after graduating become officers. Only cadets can get the highest ranks.

Who would have guessed how difficult this is!

Let´s talk about knives or something!

For example, here are some terms I thought of in just a few minutes.

Blade
Point or tip
Spine
Edge
Bolster
Handle
Scales
Pocket clip
Thumb stud
Pommel
Choil
Thong hole
Kick
Swedge
False edge
Guard
Open back
Back liner
Liner lock
Frame lock
Liners
Skull crusher
Glass breaker
Quillion

Parts related to the balisong or butterfly knife.

Bite Handle The handle that closes on the sharp edge of the blade.
Kicker (or Kick) Area on the blade that prevents the sharp edge from contacting the inside of the handle and suffering damage.
Latch The standard locking system, which holds the balisong closed. Magnets are occasionally used instead.
Latch Batangas, A latch that is attached to the bite handle.
Latch Manila, A latch that is attached to the safe handle.
Latch Spring, A latch that utilizes a spring to propel the latch open when the handles are squeezed.
Safe Handle, The handle that closes on the non-sharpened edge of the blade.
Latch gate, A block inside the channel of the handles stopping the latch from impacting the blade
Tang, The base of the blade where the handles are attached with pivot pins.
Choil, Small curve found on some balisongs just above the kicker, that allows you to sharpen the blade more easily.
Swedge, Unsharpened spine of the blade that is angled to appear as if it were sharpened. (many spear point balis actually have an edged side and a swedge side instead of two sharpened sides)

It was really weird (and dangerous) when they had the radar turned on, you could watch a bird flying across in front of it. As the bird got closer to the other side it would begin to smoke and finally burst into a ball of smoke and flames!
