And I DO mean it. Here is what happened, then a pic (a poor one But you can see what I'm talking about).

Last week a Dog contacted me and said there was a letter or poster that he thought I would be interested in seeing, but that he needed to mail it to me because he couldn't scan it and upload the results. He wanted to know if my address had changed and I told him it had not.

Well today the mail lady knocked on the door and had a package for me that I needed to sign for. At first I thought it was another fire tinder kit I had ordered from DogTired. But then after a couple seconds I realized I wouldn't need to sign for that, then I remembered the PM I got from this Dog and thought OK, but then again WHY would I need to sign for a letter or a poster.

Well there WAS a letter/poster inside, but first THIS is the reason I needed to sign for it. (Sorry I lost the pic of the actual blades somehow) Here's the first one.
[Linked Image from farm4.staticflickr.com]
And here's the second one.
[Linked Image from farm4.staticflickr.com]

When I lifted the package I began to think that he included something else and when I got it open I started repeating Oh God over and over again (I'm sorry if you think that blasphemous but it's all that came to mind).

First out was the Regulator and I thought Man that's expensive, but a VERY nice gesture, then I realized there was something else in the box besides the packing Styrofoam peanuts. THEN I REALLY lost it.

Yeah I had to set everything down, I couldn't see. I was totally blindsided. And he even included the Busse Combat SSS sheet (Swine Shaving Sharpness Sheet) showing how it would cut paper.

AND there was also a personal letter, in which he was thanking me! This letter will always remain to remind me of the boundless generosity of others. I wish I could thank this man BY NAME, but until he gives his Ok I won't.

So, SIR, I THANK YOU ALL FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. I haven't had that many things deeply touch me, but this is most definitely one of those times.

So, again, thank you for this most generous heart touching gift. Hopefully I can pass the generosity on to others in time. But neither one of these blades will be leaving here, until I can't use them any more, then I WILL gift them forward to a deserving Dog.

If It were within my power to give you an award, rest assured, I would.

Randy

I just can't believe this man and his generosity. I know it does not sound like it, but I am without words on how to express my feelings. NOTHING(of this magnitude) has ever happened to me before.

Some observations. She's big, she's bad, she's sharp, she don't take stuff off ANYONE! But Dan DOES make her nervous.

I really like that the spine is rounded off. Makes it a lot easier on the hand if you are applying pressure with your thumb or your hand if you are using it as a draw knife. Also a rounded off spine will not tear up your baton like a squared off one will.

The balance point seems to be right about the middle of the choil, so when you choke up and put your finger there, it has a nice easy feeling, a lightness to it. It is quick, even when held in a regular grip although it is sort of blade heavy when in the normal grip.

I like the "Birds head" pommel, that allows you to get a three finger hold that will only increase the chopping ability of the blade.

The talon hole I thought would be just a useless appendage, but upon reflection it is the perfect place to attach a lanyard. Using the forward lanyard position, you can adjust the length so that when you grasp the handle you can actually open your hand and the knife will still remain in your hand. A lanyard vastly increases your safety while chopping, keeping the blade from flying out of your grasp. Some folks like them and some don't. Personally i like them IF I am going to do any chopping where there is a danger of slicing through the material to easily thereby increasing the possibility the blade may come out of your hand. The rear lanyard hole, I'm not sure, but it sure does look cool! Maybe when I get my "Dog" tags I'll attach one there, JUST to remind me that no matter what Jerry does to his blades, Dan will always be right on his A**!

The handle slabs. What can I say, they're Pumpkin! Plus they are contoured which helps you maintain your grip. And IF I slide my hand slightly forward on the grip, my ring finger fingertip lands smack dab in the middle tube.

Now all that remains is to get her out and all dirty and then see (when she needs it) how she sharpens back up. If she does sharpen up as easily as my Wardog, then ALL the Bussekin choppers need to be made out of INFI!

All things considered, I guess you could say that I am now officially
A HOG, A RAT and A DOG! But not necessarily in that order.

Now that's a nice gesture. And to the donor dog, nice touch of class to remain anonymous.

OK, the spine and all the other "Edges" are rounded off. Does this mean that this is a NMBWM, if there is such a thing?

I can think of no better recipient of such generous gifts. I agree with what Hooker said; I'm not surprised by the generosity of our Brothers, just humbled by it all the time.

To answer your question, it has been my experience that (generally) a Busse blade only gets the Nuclear Meltdown title when there is a previous iteration of the blade design that does not have the NM treatment. For instance, the SFNO/NMSFNO, FBM/NMFBM, FSH/NMFSH. The SAR series has rounded features as well, but they didn't get the NM title. I guess my theory could be argued because the BWM is technically a Battle Mistress, but there was no BWM with squared off features before it. Maybe there is no method to Busse's madness shocked.

Anyways, congratulations on such an AWESOME score!

Now that you are a HOG, will we be seeing some posts over on the BF Busse subforum? I hope so!

P.S. I think I might have something that'd go nicely with the Pumpkin BWM. I'll get in touch with you.

I was basing my question on some pictures I was of Satin BWM's. They looked like the spine and specially around the talon hole had flat angles, and not rounded off edges.

Thanks for the information.

About posting "Over there", don't know. Only about one toe is a HOG, the rest is pure Dawg!

Hmm. I never held an LE or satin BWM, so I can't comment on whether they have the NM treatment. That's interesting. I have to say that the NM treatment is really great, especially when working gloveless.

My BWM is also all purty and rounded. Don't think it's a NM variety--just the regular garden variety.

Ok, here are a couple shots of the Chopping lanyard that DrBarnes made me.
[Linked Image from farm9.staticflickr.com]

Here it is with the complete handle in the shot

Sorry they're not better, but I'm a lousy photographer. ONE of these days I'm gonna get a friend of Patty's to take a family photo of all my Bussekin blades. Now THAT guy can take pics. Good thing, that's what he does!

I had a couple shots of zipper pulls with a scull bead in them but I hosed those pics. I'll try again later on sometime.

I'm going to have him make me a couple more larger zipper pulls to put on a couple other knives. I might get another chopping lanyard also, I'll just have to wait and see how easily I get used to this one.

Looking back over this thread, i don’t think I ever stated the reason for the gifts.

They were given to me as gifts upon being made a moderator.

He said that every good moderator needed a good regulator. AND that since I didn’t have a Busse knife that he thought I needed one.

Now you know why DT hates me. wink

Even though my attendance on this forum over the last few years has been spotty at best, I still maintain that this is the best forum that i have ever been on.
The Busse's have been nothing less than first class, and the same goes for the moderators and members.
