Ok, I don't know if they are or not, but I figure either I'm right or I'll get corrected quickly. So are they all thru-tempered (TT) or are they differentially tempered (DT)? Or is the plan for some to be DT and some to be TT?

Dan or Patti?

I believe in another thread Dan said they are tempered the same way as the Rats and Busses. Why change a good thing?

Well since all Busses large and small are TT and large SW are DT with the smaller ones being TT with the exception of the Tan and Blk BR.....that doesn't help very much

For years my friends and I have gone to the local beer store and bought all kinds of beer just to see what's good, I have a notebook that I log how well I like it ( 1-10 ) and weather its a heavy or light beer.

One of my favorites, maybe you have heard of "Dixie Beer"
its getting hard to find sense Hurricane Katrina.

Welcome to the pound Xaero, the knives are all thru tempered as far as better men than me know (and post!) but they are supposed to be tougher than the proverbial old boots, so go get one mate! (Busse knives ie FBM are thru tempered too, and they don't break- period.)

Patti

So that means thru-tempered (TT)? Busse Combat knives are all TT whereas some of the Swamp Rats are Differentially Tempered? Would you clarify? Thanks!!!

Stealther,

Look at any uncoated blade that is differentially tempered or hardened. There will always be a demarcation between the harder and softer crystals, even if they're both the same name on paper. You can see it on the larger SR-101 blades and you can see it on handmade blades with such a temper. Can you see it on the Scrapper 6LE?

Thom,

Are you talking about the Hamon? I don't have a LE version of the S6 and I can't see it on the pictures people have posted, but they can be easy to miss. I don't expect the Scrapper to be Differentially tempered, but the Bowie might! Just was wondering which school of thought Dan subscribes to for his knives.

The hamon on a differentially tempered knife wouldn't be a stark contrast like on a custom made knife with higher carbon and an acid etch, but the more tempered spine-side reflects light differently than the more hardened edge-side.

Even with a mindset of toughness-uber-alles, I can't see anyone differentially tempering S7. If Dan does that, my statement is literal as I ain't in Tejas.

Thx guys for the welcome and the answer.

I already have a battle rat and a mud razor from passed ganzas. Love them so much. Unfortunately, my funds are so limited and I'm still drooling for AK47 and FBM plus the upcoming Scrap Yard infi mudder. So I have to pass this debut. sad...

The bowie would be way more practical... and probably less than a third of the price of the AK.

One for the wall, one for the field and a spare in case you ever manage to terminally damage the 'user'...

Mr. Paul the Brit,

Please re-read Scrap Yard's guarantee. Unless your opinion of terminal damage covers unsightliness, it'll be covered by the warranty.

Also, a wall-hanger made from S7/SR-77? The whole reason for these knives is use; hard, tortuous work guaranteed to shatter stainless steel blades and warp or chip lesser carbon steels. Such a knife derives its stunning good lucks from the service it provides. A knife can look good, but when it's helped you dig small pits, pryed crates apart, and put deep notches in steel so you could bend or break that steel for your purposes, well that knife looks incredibly beautiful. I have an S7 bowie that makes my eyes twinkle. Scrap Yard's upcoming bowie should go from looking stunning to 'jaw dropping/heart pounding' with use.

Thom- a safe-queen a user and a user for 'Sundays', I'm not seeing the problem! As for the warranty if anyone does manage to total one of these tanks then they did something amazingly stupid or 'desperate measures'! These knives make continents look flimsy.. (I did say 'ever manage to terminally damage the user').

Just to throw burning petrol on the troubled waters... These are some of the worlds best knives backed by the WORLDS BEST warranty.

So hypothetically;.. Someone owns a BR and manages to break it... Eric being a good bloke offers the owner a full cash refund as the shards can't be fixed back together. The owner now has $150 but no BR. As BRs are sadly out of production and the second hand prices seem to be from the Busse catalogue the poor soul is damned to a life without a BR. Moral; love a Busse, SRKW or 'dog knife buy at least two regardless of them having the worlds best warranty!

Do I hear a 'hell yeah!'?

I’ve thought of this before, and there’s money to be made here for an insurance company. Here’s my idea: An insurance company that sells you a policy that covers the difference between the original price of the knife, and the current market value in case of damage. You know they’d make a ton of money from policies, because it would be very unlikely that a Busse family knife would be broken. But if it did, it would cover the difference between your refund from the company, and the current market cost to replace it. Good idea eh? It would encourage more people to use their “valuable” knives that they’re afraid MIGHT become damaged somehow.
