I luv gore-tex but it does make my feet hot! they have that new xcr stuff that's a lot more breathable. I have a couple pair of light hikers with it, it's great stuff.

The trails at Mammoth Cave are awful when it rains. The trails are open to horseback riders and they keep the trails in a mess.

two things I don't like when I'm hiking: dogs, horses, and mountain bikers. we're lucky to have a few canyons in the watershed here where animals aren't allowed because of contamination issues. in the canyons where animals are allowed, I inevitably run into a handful of owners who don't take care of the waste, and it ruins all the ones who do for me.

I've ran into more than a few guys out riding the trails on their horses half drunk leaving a trail of beer cans behind them.

There are several trails that horses aren't allowed on in the park but those trails are the ones close to the main entrance where all the tourists are.
