Scrapyard loyalty

Scrapyard loyalty - 12/16/11 12:17 AM

I'm trying to put a positive spin on having just sold my Busse Muk LE and Swamp Rat RMDx LE this month. I still have five SYCO blades and a Swamp Warden, but the fancy stuff is gone. Of course I find the Scrapyard blades to look the best.

Who else has tried the rest of the kin and come back to the yard to stay?

And also, bring on the 911, I'm ready.

Re: Scrapyard loyalty - 12/16/11 12:32 AM

I enjoy all of them, but only really post or hang out here. The yard is what I consider family.

Re: Scrapyard loyalty - 12/16/11 12:33 AM

I got a little of all three. I prefer the steel of Busse, the styling of Swamp Rat, and the value of Scrap Yard.

And I have to agree with you Sar5.

Re: Scrapyard loyalty - 12/16/11 12:53 AM

I own Swamp Rat and Scrapyard, and would love to own Busse steel too. I hang out in the Yard because of the people here. If I sold all my knives, I'd still come here.

I Own ScrapYard, Swamp and One Busse. I hang here because its probably the friendliest place on the net.

All for me as well. But SY is the most affordable so I tend to buy more than one of each which I don't for the others.

All kin but the yard is my home.

Re: Scrap Yard loyalty - 12/16/11 07:05 AM

First post here
I own scrapyard and swamprat
I have a scrapper 5, rmdxle and a rodent 9.
Would love a busse piece but can't bring myself to spend that much when the yard has tanks for much less.

Re: Scrap Yard loyalty - 12/16/11 07:06 AM

I have had all three of them at one time or another but only have yard steel and one RMD. I do love the yard for all the great camaraderie and what I call friends I've made here, I had a skinny ash but it just didn't fit my hand very well so I sold it, I wouldn't let that stop me from getting another busse if I liked it.

Re: Scrap Yard loyalty - 12/16/11 07:39 AM

I AM The minority here.

Scrap Yard Knife Company is ALL I ever needed or will need in a knife.

Their Price to Performance Credo Dan expressed in 2006 is alive and well today.

Quoted from their Mission Statement,
:By running our blades in concert with the Swamp Rat line and adhering to the principle of “performance first” we will keep our manufacturing costs down and our quality unmatched at an affordable price."

Hands down Dan and his company have never turned his back on that.

Scrappers ARE Busse knives! We just don't need to pay the premium price of INFI to enjoy all the benefits of the toughest blade made.

Guarantee? Well you know the story.

When I spend 300- X,XXX on a knife it better be one of a kind and made by a premium Maker. but that is me.

And why I am n the minority I assume.

Scrap Yard Knives are all the HD cutters I will EVER use or need.

Peace.

Re: Scrap Yard loyalty - 12/16/11 08:26 AM

I voted ALL...but I'm slowly in process of reverting to all SYKCO.

For those that have stated they hope to have BUSSE steel someday...I think it is safe to say that the YARD will keep producing short runs of INFI knives over the years. So far there have been three, correct? The SS4, S5LE, and most recently the WarDog.

Yep, the YARD is where it's at! I love INFI and Res-C, yet I passed on the B-6 and the B-10. The B-08 is calling my name, but I am confident the 711 will put that to rest. The real question is...could I ever sell the B-11? Well, I'm hopeful the 711 will take on most roles (I don't find myself chopping down many trees). However, if Dan would come out with a > 8" knife in INFI...I would be convinced DOH! I just forgot about the B-04.../sigh...the circle of life continues.

Every Rat I've bought, I've sold. I only have one left, the HCSE, and it's about to go on the block.

Re: Scrap Yard loyalty - 12/16/11 01:45 PM

I also voted all, but out of all my Bussekin blades, I ONLY have one Busse (HACK Wardog) and ONE Rat, the Swamp Warden. All my others are Dan's creations.

SYKCO and Busse for me, so far. And a 711 on the way.
I have to get my self the 411 when it is released. Maybe both the SR 411 and the SYKCO...

All in all, my loyalty is to the Yard foremost.

im loyal to ONE type of knifemaker. Busse. the end. whether its dan, jennifer, or jerry. the busse family makes MY line of knives. all i ever buy. i happen to own more SY thank any others bc they are the cheapest and i love my some SR77.

Re: Scrap Yard loyalty - 12/18/11 07:38 PM

Scrap Yard & Swamp Rat here.

I only own SR77 and SR101, but would buy Scrap Yard INFI.

Busse Combat products are great, but I've tested a few of a my SYKCO & SRKW knives well beyond anything I would ever expect from them in the field and outside of some finish wear....they're as good as new. Therefore, I just don't have a reason to buy anything else.

The SRKW products I own are: Chopweilers, RMDs, Rodent Solutions and Wardens. If the Scrapivore would have been available when I was buying my Wardens I would have went with the better priced SYKCO product. My Chopwielers and RatManDus are my "go to" knives though. I very highly doubt they will ever be replaced.

My favorite knives are:

Small = Scrapivore or Warden
Medium = Scrapper5 or RMD
Medium Large = Chopweiler
Large = Dog Father

The only Busse product that has REALLY interested me is the recently released Basic 4. I like the deep belly, and short blade ... just looks practical. I'm not completely satisfied with my Rodent Solutions, and am looking for a replacement. However, at those prices I'll wait to see what the SYKCO 411 looks like

Have you had a chance to check out a SW HRLM?
It has the same short stout blade of the Basic 4 with the RMD handle!
I love it.
I haven't bought the Basic 4,yet, due to unexpected Christmas expenses. Oh, I am also looking forward to the SYKCO 4-11.

Re: Scrap Yard loyalty - 12/18/11 11:50 PM

Just Yard and Swamp for me....I find most of the Busse's very ugly and far too expensive !

I really wish that the Yard and Swamp would stop including the choils on their knives though. I can't understand why they are so keen to keep including these, especially on their smaller models. I thought for a while that it might be cheaper for some reason due to the rubber ( Res-C handles ) but Falkniven and Cold steel both use rubber handles and don't include choils so I'm a little stumped !!!

Re: Scrap Yard loyalty - 12/19/11 12:19 AM

I have them all. I still wan to grab a rmd or rmdx AR some point. remember seeing a all black hrlm with black torx screws instead of tubes and really like that. also the rodent solution really looks a good one to have.

I have the a mojo which is a grail knife and even though it gets some light use it is more collector than user. and I have my jackhammer which is my all arounder.

they most used knives I own are my mudders. kitchen and utility duty and even though the INFI is great it seems that 154cm is prefect for my uses. hope Dan brings a few more surprise LE's in 2012.

Re: Scrap Yard loyalty - 12/19/11 12:41 AM

I collect all three brands; some of my Busse Combats and Swamp Rats are even custom shop knives, although most are CGs and Military Overruns. I must maintain a spreadsheet to keep track of them and my current BC/SR/SY counts are 105/63/159 respectively.

I've been trying to pull back on knife-buying for a while, but have fallen off the wagon with three S3V rampless Bravo-1 Barkies and several customs this month; Bad Jim, bad... (the sound of a rolled up newspaper swat). Seriously though, with one possible exception, the knives I bought this month weren't going to stay available for long.

Well I'm new to Busse and Busse Kin knives . But I've already bought a Basic 6 and have a Sykco 511 on the way . I was actually looking for a Scrapper 6 when I found the Basic and since I couldn't find a Scrapper I bought the Basic . Now I see a Scrapper 6 for sale on that big auction site but the price is near what I got the Basic 6 for , so I'm good . All that said , Scrap Yard seem to be a great value for such well built knives and I'm quite sure that now that I have my Busse INFI fix I'll be playing in the yard from now on

I passed on those when they were being offered. At the time I didn't see a need for a 4". Now I'm finding that an anorexic 4" is about as practical for "daily stuff" as a knife can be.

Re: Scrapyard loyalty - 12/23/11 04:14 PM

I had a bunch of different blades, mostly Yard and Swamp but I am down to a selected few:
B11, Battle Pappy, MUKLE from Busse
Warden, HRLM, RMDLE (1st gen), RS, and Vex from the Swamp
SODLE, BDLE, MPLE, Waki, War Dog, TT Reg, and two Vores (pink and black) from the Yard.

EventuallyI might pair this down since a couple of the Busse and the Swamps have not been used but the Yard blades won't...........know what I mean!

Re: Scrapyard loyalty - 12/23/11 11:19 PM

Arch, all the Bussekin are great as you already know. The only thing that has kept me from buying some Swamp and Busse Combat blades(well besides being more expensive) is My needs are fulfilled by Dan's blades, although a B10 or B11 would be nice, but I would have to get rid of my DF. That said I have one swamp, the Warden and one BC, the Wardog Hack. The rest of mine are Dan's babies.

Re: Scrap Yard loyalty - 12/24/11 09:25 PM

I respect the quality and value I get from scrapyard but I would like to see an offering with some canvas micarta scales. Blade for blade, I can't see a difference in quality because I have never pushed or used my knives beyond their intended limits. I have yet to break/damage my Cold Steel Recon Scout, which is no where near the quality of my Busse-kins. We'll see what 2012 brings.

Re: Scrap Yard loyalty - 12/26/11 10:54 AM

My desire for a reliable knife led me to the discovery of Bussekin.

I have a few Scrapyards now, and finally was able to order a Busse in the form of the B10. That really tempered my desires, and I have calmed down. Funny how having a few of the best calmed me down. The urge to get something better, and more specifically, reliable, is met. Now it is just a matter of picking up the occasional Scrapyard. I still would like to get something representative of Swamprat. I am also pretty sure that I will get another Busse or two, when they release something really appealing to me.

But considering the bang for the buck that scrapyard offers, I see myself leaning heavily in their direction for my collecting urges.
