Too much blade to keep oiled up. Think I'll let her get stripped the natural way.

The big question for me is do I use the numbered one or the standard one.

That sounds like a lot of work. I guess if you are lookin to make it a show piece it would be cool.

I agree on a lot of work for sure. If the coating ever got that bad then maybe. I kinda like the battle scar look of the coating on a well used piece of steel.

I think stripping the 1311 would be a pity... It just looks so awesome as it is!

And yes, it would have to be all oily. Even as a showpiece...

That can be arranged, although I can't say I would be comfortable stripping around so many sharp objects.

Well my M9LE came uncoated, but I must take care to prevent rust. SR101 steel (52-100) rusts very easily. Stripping INFI is no problem. It acts like stainless. I no longer strip SR101 blades. Leave the paint on, IMO. I will not strip my 911 or 1311.

I think I'll leave the coating on and eventually strip it the natural way, by using it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

No. Much better in the field to have coated SR101 than stripped.

I'm definitely not stripping mine. I like the all blacked out look. as for which one to use. I'm going to use my numbered one, since it's specifically more mine. I'm thinking I'll leave the unnumbered one in good condition ready just in case.

The only reason I'd strip SR101 is to have it silver plated for werewolf hunting.

That's not a bad idea Jim! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I plan on using mine so definitely won't be stripping the blade. As horndog said sr101 is too rust prone especially with a lot of outdoor use. I did however strip the 311 because I don't like blade coatings on knives I use around food.

A little bit of mineral oil will help greatly! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Scrap Yard knives are really not designed to be pretty. The Busse Custom Shop makes pretty knives. I have stripped many of them in the past, but you still have a basic "rubber handled" style knife when you're done. The beauty of SY knives is how well they work and their reasonable price. Scrappers are all about performance. The resiprene handles are much better than the kraton that some other brands use. Insect repellant does not seem to affect them at all, while it makes other handles sticky and melts them some. The handles also offer some shock absorbing quality. Down here in the mosquito infested woods, a knife like the 1311 seems like it may be the ultimate machete. We will soon see.

After the road clearing and exploring I did this weekend, I cant wait for the 1311. It will get some use for sure, trying to find that great hunting spot.

Re: Are you going to strip your 1311? - 09/26/12 07:27 AM

HD, I agree. In OK when we are sultry the SR101 that is naked is harder to keep clean. But, I am thinking of bluing some SR101 with either Brownells bluing solution or use apple vinegar like I did a O1 blade a while back. The apple cider vineger did a great job and I have not had any rust problems and it has been carried daily and used all the time.

Stripped or coated, either way my 1311 gets treated with Tuf-cloth marine and I don't worry about rust. I'll have to get it in hand before I can decide. The little kid in me wants to beat the coating off of it, just might have to let him out to play!)

Leaving mine as is
It is going to be a user
Combine it with my Yardkeeper cg and I think I have a great bushbeating combo

I live in one of the wettest places on the planet, carry my stripped Swamprat M6 and Swampwarden regularly and have had zero issues with rust. Just remember to dry them off when you get home and add a little mineral oil.

If I do strip my 1311, it would only be on the grind between the edge up to where it meets the flat part of the sabre grind in order to reduce the blade sticking, kind of like my Camp Tramp & 711.
