Heads Up On 1311

The SYKCO 1311 has been a huge success and the forum members are pretty much covered from what I can tell. The reports about its performance is quickly making this a classic.

So here is the Heads-Up. I will be taking the knife down in the very near future. Pokey will be sending a newsletter with this notice in it.

I would like to thank each of you for the input you had in the creation of this monster...very cool

Thanks for this Dan. I have been looking for the perfect Chopper/Machete for years. I seriously use a machete everyday that I am in the yard and sometimes when a tree falls in the road. The price that you pay when you live on a seaside mountain road in the tropics.

this was on my mind also... i hate to miss the 1311 but currently juggling too many things to know if the whole amount will be there on ding day. also didn't want to bog down the ScrapYard office a pending order fhey cant collect in full on. but this is a hard one to pass on...

Any idea on how long it takes the 1311's to ship? I've been anxiously awaiting mine for a few weeks now.....

I lucked out and was able to free up some space on the cc and ordered one ten minutes ago.
My wife told me when it gets here I have to give it to her so she can wrap it for Christmas

One can only wonder...when Dan comes up with a design that is getting such stellar reviews, why would it only be available for such a limited time? I bet he could sell millions of em. Shouldn't it get perm/semi-perm status like the all-time classic RMD over at Swamp Rat?

Of course, this speculation comes from a person with zero knowledge of the knife making biz.

We don't question the Yard's winning business model. Got to make room for the next new thing.

Man I wish my 1311 would show up. I got a notice this week but this is the first time that it has taken longer to get the blade than the notice.

Plus Dan brought this out as a special for Yard members, inspired by a sip and chat. I have great respect for Dan limiting this sale and sticking to his word. And it seems Bussekin follows the old adage "leave them hungry and they will keep coming back for more".

I wasn't questioning Dan's business model and am offended by this insinuation. I ordered pretty quickly and am good to go. I've been a loyal customer of Dan's for a few years now and I was just curious as to why certain decisions are made since I know nothing about his line of work. I was hoping he could provide a little insight, that is all.

I hope to see a reincarnation of the 1311 somewhere down the road. Maybe a different steel, or handle material, blade profile, or color. I haven't had a chance to get my package yet but I miss the 1311 everyday. I am really looking forward to it!

Please no flames but I love how Dan did it for the 1311. Anyone in the know had ample opportunity to sign up and get theirs. It wasn't like some where they are up and gone in a day or two. Limiting the run allows me to sell off my couple of extras on the secondary which helps me buy the next offering. My "hobby" has to be pretty much self funding per the boss's orders. No extra cash these days for so many "toys". Can't keep buying new ones if the previous ones stayed up forever.

Don´t like that either.

Can't say that i'm surprised. Being forum members only put a commodity on it that certain people will take advantage of during resale. Market sets price, if someone is willing to pay 280, then that's what it's worth.

I guess "Scalping" didn't die out in the 1800's after all.

It is just, that I don't believe it was in the spirit of the special offer, to forum members, that people sign up, buy the blade, and then jack the price up by 40% on the exchange.

It just gives me a bad tast in the mouth.
My 1311 is mine, and won't leave me, unless I lose it in the woods during a drunken rampage, again...

I can understand that feeling, but honestly this is very little different than a normal retail market if you think about it.

A distributor buys product from a manufacturer because they have access channels to that manufacturer that you do not. They then take that product and resell it at a 40 - 50% markup (sometimes more depending on the commodity) to a retailer who then marks it up again and sells it to the general public. Sometimes the distributor is cut out of that chain by the retailer, but someone is still a middle man between you and the manufacturer.

In this case, it is just not my thing...

There are a couple listed in that price range, and to be fair they should have retailed for $240 but Dan gave us the major hook up on this one so $280 isn't that unrealistic.

I will also point out that only one of them is SOLD right now and the buyer has no positive feedback and it's an international deal. I hate to say so, but it may just be someone trying to scam the buyer.

I have a feeling the true value of these will be somewhere between $200-$240 when they actually sell on the exchange.

Ofcourse people can buy and sell at whatever price they want. In this case, the buyer is relatively new to the Bussekin-thing, as I figure it.

It is by no means a big deal. I would just go about it differently.
