ASH resource thread - 12/14/12 10:35 PM

Within the next ten years, I will be getting an ASH-1! Oh yeah!

So; how skinny is the skinny one?
And; how fat is the fat one?

IS there an in between one?

I know 90% of all ASH-1's are in Australia, but maybe I will find one eventually

Skinny ASH for me, someday

Re: ASH resource thread - 12/15/12 12:15 AM

Skinny one is .18

LE one is .22

Fat one is .32

I think the most usable is the few coated CG .22s that are out there. My guess is these are LEs that would not polish up well enough so off they went for coating.

Once you ASH you'll never go back...

Thanks Andy!

I think I will go for the Le, once the time($$$$) is right.

The Skinny is the top. The .22 is the second from top... the rest are .32 fatties

Andy the second from top is too awesome! I would never be able to use it. I would have to buy a white leather sheath and wear white leather pants and jacket and strut around uptown showing it off, BUT I could never use it...

Rasmus
There is an in between model that was sold at shows. Mine is what I think might be a one-of-a-kind model.

It is coated Black with Green Linen Magnum handles.

It is .23" thick at the spine, which means it was probably an LE blank. After the ricasso, it has a distal taper all the way to the tip.

I have held the CG, Skinny and LE and I think the LE and my model are the best. Since it is a tall knife, .23" is the perfect thickness.

The Second as is NOT white... as cool as that may be, it is just looking a little "washed out" buy the flash... It is actually desert sand with a little sand texture in the finish. It measures .226 at the ricasso. I have been offered one other in the CG but .22 thick and it was balck with black G10, I should have grabbed it !!!

Here is a pic that may show the colour a little better...

Great pics, thanks!

Are there any smoothhandled ones, or are they all contoured?

Thanks!

I gotta call my tailor and cancel my pimp suit!

Are they all users? I know you've posted several ASH user pics in the past.
Also I know I've seen Busse with White Micarta before...

Re: ASH resource thread - 12/16/12 03:50 AM

I have a skinny Ash and really it's a very useful and great allarounder!!! I would score one if I was you. After the SAR 6 it's my favorite 6" er out and I have had all of the BUSSE and Kin in that size. Except a Hell Razor

Re: ASH resource thread - 12/16/12 04:48 AM

I couldn't use them all if I tried.... The skinny and sage fatty are both users, the sage and B&T G10 I just got off gunfixrjoe will also spend plenty of time away with me. While I could not use all the knives I own is a lifetime I will not buy something that I could not see myself using. It is why I generally shy away from LE blades.

Re: ASH resource thread - 12/16/12 04:50 AM

I didn't buy any standard, LE, or fat ASHs, but I bought 3 skinnies -- based on handling all at Knob Creek tables, they were my choice as best. The only ASH varient that I really missed buying was the 3B2, which was a very limited military overrun offered in the 2009 VetDayGanzaaa. Here's a picture of one that Knifehunter took and posted over on BladeForums (I assume that he wouldn't mind me posting it here):

[Linked Image from i297.photobucket.com]

It's the only version that I recall seeing with smooth/hand shaped handles. While I didn't get a 3B2 (or a "Hammered Warden", until later from the secondary market), I did land a pair of arctic white FSH with hand shaped handles and one 'bama clay FSH, so I did pretty well. However, while I prefer the FSH design to the ASH, I regret not having tried for a couple 3B2s as well. You rarely see them on the secondary market because there weren't many and the people who got them love 'em.

Here are links to the old 2009 VetDayGanzaaa pages -- it was one of the best ganza offerings ever:

Andy if you bring many more large pieces of INFI down there from this side of the world you'll throw the whole thing off it's axis with the weight shift

Re: ASH resource thread - 12/16/12 07:31 AM

Wow I love the 3b2 that does look like it was a heck of a ganza.

Found this one:

It would compliment my SFNO Le perfectly!
