Thoughts on a Muk

Thoughts on a Muk - 02/01/13 06:52 AM

Dan, I know you were collecting info and opinions during the sip and talk. If I could throw out a plea: Please make the muk--if you go forward with it--thicker than the Scrap Max blades.

While I love the design and I use the SM on every deer I process now, I find that it is so thin that the edge won't hold as well as I'd like. I know it's everything is trade off--thin blade=less edge to hold--and I have no complaints about it--it's perfect for what I need--but on a muk, I'd personally prefer something in the thickness of the Swamp Warden (sorry, the only one I have sitting next to me at the moment to compare with ). Thinner than the CG muk but thicker than the Scrap Max. Thanks

And since you hate squirrels, I leave you with some disturbing images:

And the sequence of what happens when a squirrel is denied his knives...

Dan, i suggest you make a Muk.

Re: Thoughts on a Muk - 02/01/13 07:47 AM

My suggestion is 1/8" blade thickness and no more than 4" long.

Still hoping for D2, but I won't hold my breath.

And I'm sure I'll be the only one to ask for the Wardog handle.

Mudders all the way. 1/8" D2, Elmax, or INFI

I like the idea of the War Dog handle for the Muk, probably my favorite handle on blades under 6". I'm not really a big fan of the mudder handles like everybody else is, not to mention it's already been done on the ScrapMuk.

I also think .170-.180 would be about the perfect thickness for this blade being that it's supposed to be a slicer. A wide blade at this thickness will have a thinnish edge while still being somewhat heavy duty.

Re: Thoughts on a Muk - 02/02/13 03:04 AM

My thoughts. Please keep thickness behind the edge down . I really liked how thinly ground the Max's were. If .010 behind the edge seems a bit to thin to some users, maybe go more like .015 or so? 3/16" or 1/8" stock is fine with me as long as edge thinnes is down. I say war dog handle as well. I like the mudders. But the wardog handle is much more comfortable in my XL hands. Elmax still sounds epic in high hardness and thin.

Re: Thoughts on a Muk - 02/02/13 03:21 AM

I would be for DT idea, but I say stay with mudders.

As to the pics above, that is why I love living in a free state----take care of the tree rat problem without complaints. Bad enough they steal the pecans but to have one go rabidous would be REAL bad.

Re: Thoughts on a Muk - 02/02/13 06:19 AM

It's gotta be mudders. The curve in the handle goes so well with the curve in the blade...unless of course we're going with squirrel bone....JJ, you were drinking again, weren't you

Why not. Go big or go home.

A DARPA/Scrapyard partnership would be nice.

Wardog handle.

Re: Thoughts on a Muk - 02/02/13 10:45 PM

Mudder handles, 1/8" thickness, no choil, 4"-4,5" blade lenght.

About the steel: I trust Dan.

Re: Thoughts on a Muk - 02/02/13 10:55 PM

We already have a Muk with mudders. If we're going to change it then let's change it all.

Me neither. Maybe one day.

But if the handle must change Iīd prefer the standard handle.

Mudders are the best.

Re: Thoughts on a Muk - 02/06/13 05:00 PM

My thoughts:

1/8" Elmax, 4 - 4.5". Mudder grip.

Conversely, you could go much larger, INFI and use it to fend of the rabid squirrel apocalypse....
Posted By: SkunkHunter

Re: Thoughts on a Muk - 02/06/13 05:08 PM

1.8 inch elmax with 4 inch blade tip to grip. (or a reissue of the 411 would be nice)
