Blade 2013

So, who is going to the Blade show? I booked my trip early this morning and can hardly wait! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I'm still not sure, yet. I don't know if I can really afford to fly there, so I'm tossing the idea around of riding a motorcycle out there.....

I know I'll kick myself if I don't make it this year, I missed out last year.

Only thing left is to get tickets. Is it worth getting early admission?

The Busse group usually offers VIP tickets to forum members, which gets you a discounted price and in two hours earler than the general public on Friday.(the tickets are good all three days) The first hour of the show on Friday Busse normally offers a 10% discount to it's customers, so it is DEFINITELY worth it! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

When are the VIP tickets offered?

I think they usually offer them in April, plenty of time anyways. You take the VIP tickets to the windows for a discounted price at the show.

Last year was my first time and enjoyed it very much. However I must skip a year, as I am wearing out my beloved 4x4 comuting to work and need to buy a car soon. I really thought it would be a yearly trip but maybe every other year aint so bad.

Susan and I WILL go to Blade this year. We are so looking forward to meeting more wonderful dogs in the Yard.

I am Heading to Arkansas right about that time. I need to see how many miles that would add to my trip. I might make one day of it.

If I was only going to do one day, it would probably be Friday, more stuff on most of the tables, people are a bit fresher

I decided to leave the girlfriend back here in Denmark, so I can focus on the task at hand: drooling and buying blades.

Is the 'Early bird' ticket a good idea, if you want to spend some $$? I mean, are the knives for sale gone quickly?

Klink told me it's a good idea. Discounts and such.

Busse gives away free VIP tickets closer to the date, you get in early on Friday. There is a handful of knives out at the beginning of the show ( honestly, the good stuff gets bought up by the people that some how manage to score exhibitor badges) but there are offerings at different times each day that everyone has equal chance at ( they throw tickets at the crowd)

So Im kind of new to the knife scene and was wondering if there is a West Coast equivalent to Blade?

Credit cards are fine! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> As mentioned, exhibitors actually get the best chance at the unusual or nicest stuff, but the "Early Bird" pass still gives you a better chance than the general public, and gives you a reduced admission cost.

How is it? Is there usually a Bussekin evening event of some sort?

There is not any actual knife buying event going on before the show, but on Friday afternoon after the show we go to Fuddrucker's restaurant for a nice get-together. Saturday night after the show we all go to Jocks & Jills restaurant for a Busse sponsored dinner (they rent the entire restaurant), located at the Galleria. That is where they do the "induction" ceremonies and have fun and games, all of which is family-friendly. There are also chances to win shop credits which you can apply to your knife purchases. It's a great time that you DON'T want to miss! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> Sunday when the show is over the crew gets busy taking down the booths, etc., so you go on your way, savoring a great weekend! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

My sister actually lived in Atlanta for a while, so I visited her twice.
This time, it will only be 4 days, concentrated around Blade.

So, as a newbie here, I guess Blade means a new introduction of SYKCO knives. Do they show up on the website at the same time as the show, or shortly afterwards?

I see a lot of folks are hoping for something special. How long are the Blade knives generally available?

Well, in 2011 the '11 series was presented, and we are still waiting for the release of the 611, so it takes a while before the Blades presented at Blade are released.

Last year Dan came up with the SYKCO Dagger, which is still in the shop.

He also presented the Elmax knives, which were only available for preorder at Blade. Those never made the orderpage. The Elmax knives have also been sold at Knobcreek.

Is the 611 definate or just the posslbility of a release?

According to Dan, the entire '11 series is a definate, so it should come out at some time...
If you haven't seen pics of the 611, I can tell you it is a pretty cool knife.
6" with a Regulator handle. More of a fighting style knife than the rest.

That 611 does sound good.

Well it looks like even the best plans can go awry. Due to health reasons I can't make Blade this year. I've been planning this since last summer but I think taking care of my Mother far outweighs Blade. I'm keeping my hotel reservation until the last minute in case things change but if they don't is there anyone that could proxy for me?
