Scrapper 6 Weight

Scrapper 6 Weight - 09/09/06 07:15 AM

Can anyone with a scale and a Scrapper 6 tell me what it weighs? I'm wondering how much lighter it is than my M6. Really, I think it'd be a good idea if the weight were added to the description on the Knives page. I'm guessing the regular and LE would be about the same. That coating can't weigh too much.

Andy,
If you don't get a response by in the morning,I'll take mine over to the Grocery and weigh it.
Actually,I expect the LE is lighter, due to the full flat grind.

My M6 is appx 16.5 oz compared to my Scrapper LE at 12 oz. This is an old, analog spring scale so just consider the accuracy as one is **compared** to another.

Ah. I forgot they had different grinds. Thanks for the attempt PM. I have a few good scales due to my hobbies such as prospecting and collecting meteorites. I think one is accurate to 100th of a gram. Too bad I don't have both knives to weigh. Maybe we'll get an "official" answer, or someone with a good scale.

Andy, go ahead and buy a Scrapper 6 and weigh it. If you don't want to keep it you can send it to me. I'll pay the shipping.

Re: Scrapper 6 Weight - 09/09/06 07:17 PM

Both models have full height flat grinds.

We just weighed a couple of blades and the weight difference is fairly insignificant.

The weight of the Scrapper 6 is: 12.8 ounces

The weight of the Scrapper 6 LE is: 12.2 ounces

Howdy PM ! We have been enjoying the cooler weather, but wish the RAIN would quit by-passing us. We sure could use some moisture.
Looks like you're doing well in the knife collection ! It certainly is addicting. The Scrap Yard line is really a welcome sight - much like the original Swamp Rat arrival. I just wish they would include a sheath with their SHEATH KNIVES - not an ala carte item!!! Although I prefer leather sheaths, the cordura/kydex sheaths are certainly adequate, and I like the ones that accompanied my original Rats. In light of the higher shipping charges, I feel that the sheath should be included with the knives (sound familiar ?). Take care ! Tom

It does sound familiar. It is addicting and I whittle it down occasionally, too. The Mr. Mojo and Rat Mastiff have both moved on to greener pastures. Seems like new things keep popping up, though, like the ST-56.

Take care, buddy!

I'm thinking about whittling down some of my collection at the next local gun & knife show. I can part with some of my Cold Steels, SOG's, Beckers, and a few others. However, I still can't part with any of my Rats. Besides, in this area most people buy their "good" knives at WalMart.

Well you have to live in a hill ape infested town where "Daddies" buck knife is reputed to be the best thing since "keeping it the family" But if I had to choose my "BADDEST" Blade.....right now it may be either my Satin BR or Blk on Blk with Penetrator tip.....but I do have a Rat DADDY on the way.....and "something else" but comments on that will wait until it arrives! Oh yeah, I have a RAT DADDY on the way!!!!! The biggest blade produced from the Holy Trinity thus far...not counting customs for all you Uber Hogs!

GF - I bought mine off of eBay, and I got the best deal that I have seen on there for a Thor. Don't pay attention to the retail prices listed on their web-site - they are sold by wholesalers like Moteng to dealers for about half the listed prices. Too bad you have to be a dealer! Tom

Re: Scrapper 6 Weight - 09/15/06 11:29 PM

I haven't really used it so far, but would be happy to have it with me on a wilderness jaunt. It is VERY sharp, would be a great chopper, AND CAME WITH AN EXCELLENT LEATHER SHEATH included in the price. I actually bought the Fallkniven Thor INSTEAD OF a Swamp Rat model, largely because of the sheath issue. Tom

Re: Scrapper 6 Weight - 09/18/06 01:30 AM

Nah! See, I already have those things....all that I need is the leg and bird.....But on a serious not....does the weight of a blade actually matter? What scenario would dictate picking the lightest blade possible. Does the few oz. really determine if I am going to pack a certain knife or does mission dictate the blade?
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: Scrapper 6 Weight - 09/18/06 02:58 AM

The main scenario I can envision is backpacking long distances. Even then, I think it is really just an individual's choice. I believe most people will carry whatever size blade they are comfortable with and won't be hassled by authorities. This harkens to the old question; "if you could carry only one knife, what would it be?". I think most folks would want a larger blade a.k.a. survival knife when they are in a wilderness setting.
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: Scrapper 6 Weight - 09/18/06 04:00 AM

Thats along my line of thought...I can't recall a time I chose a blade to carry because it was light....if the weight of a blade determines if one is going to carry it, I would recommend some more physical activities for that individual...

The reason I asked is I know that the Rec-C weighs less than Micarta, and I wanted to know by how much. Sometimes I take walks in the country where I live, and so far the longest I've gone is 6 miles. If I'm that far from home, I like to have a good sized knife just in case I need it. The most likely reason I would need it would be for defense against a dog or something. I'm probably not going to be building an emergency shelter or anything. It will probably never leave the sheath. But I wanted to know how many ounces that would save over the M6. Not much, but if it's something you probably won't even use, it's better to pick the lighter option.
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: Scrapper 6 Weight - 09/18/06 02:13 PM

Dog vs Scrapper 6 or Rat Mastiff......hmm I think I would pack the Mastiff for a 6 mile hump. If your talking to difference between 30lbs and 45lbs ok, you might want to lighten the load, but not the knife. If it to be carried on a sheath around your waist, you will never notice it. If you are carrying it for 6 miles in your hands........get a sheath!....and belt!
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: Scrapper 6 Weight - 09/18/06 02:19 PM

Andy - again, the choice is yours. I don't think a couple of ounces makes that big a difference for your use. However, to me the key word is "probably". You "probably" won't be building an emergency shelter, etc. In terms of being prepared for unforseen events, you should allow for possible situations. Many folks have found themselves in precarious situations close to home or camp.
ANY knife is better than NO knife; I personally opt for a larger blade such as my BattleRat or Fallkniven Thor when I am out in my "south forty", and I only own 165 acres. To each his own I guess. Tom
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: Scrapper 6 Weight - 09/18/06 03:52 PM

165 acres!!! Tom, I would probably use a 4 wheeler or horse...that being the case I just may pack 3 knives...and a rifle....."just in case"

Hey, Tom. Do you ever see any wild hogs down in that part of MO? I had buddies who hunted Russian Boar near my old home along the NC/TN border. The hogs were PLENTIFUL (and invasive, and destructive, and nasty-mean.)

I was looking at the range of feral hogs on the MO Conservation site since I had thought about hunting and it sonds like they are more sporadic here. In fact, they stated that the scarcity made hunting solely for hogs frustrating but to plan on shooting them on site when hunting other game.

What's your experience?

sorry took me a while to get back here... that be a HOGFSH. i saw a pic of that thick green beast and had to have her -- i'm in the process of trying to rub all the green off the old fashioned way, but i hardly ever make it up to the hills, so it may take a while...

Re: Scrapper 6 Weight - 09/18/06 06:39 PM

Stacey - I have not found any trace of wild hogs on my property, but they have been a problem a few miles from here. Maybe only a matter of time - new hunting opportunities! The armadillos now provide occasional target practice for my Ruger P89, along with possums and raccoons. I have even nailed a couple of skunks - I was upwind of them.

GF - anytime I take my dogs for a walk I carry the aformentioned Ruger 9mm. I even take it with me when I go fishing on my pond ~3 acres, for the occasional snake. If I find signs or hear of any hogs or other types of mean, nasty, and destructive creatures in my area, I will switch to carrying my 44magnum and/or a short-barreled 12 gauge shotgun. Tom

fer shure!! oh, what i wouldn't do for a 5/16" (or thicker!) chunk of SR-77... i can't think of anything i'd rather have, right off hand. That WAS a long time for a big dog ! Would you get another Anatolian again if you could ? They seem like such awesome dogs.
