Im thinking of stripping my 411. Has anyone done this? If so could you post a picture of it?
Thanks

Lead the pack. Take pics when done.
It's really easy...don't worry about anything. Coating will come right off, might require just a tad bit of elbow grease...but likely not.
Sounds good. Will give it a go this weekend.

I think there's a tutorial somewhere...forget exactly the location, sorry. It's pretty easy though. You need to upoload them into a web-based location like Photobucket, etc....then copy the html [img] links and paste them here.
Sounds east enough. Thank you Sir.

Been thinking about stripping my 411 for over a couple weeks--just haven't done it. I think the performance would be enhanced since it would be less drag. If I do I will force a patina on it or possibly brown the blade. may even switch the black handle for the sage one off the MM, and vice-versa. Just can't push myself into doing it yet.
I just applied paint stripper to mine a couple hours ago. I will clean it up tomorrow and start forcing a patina on it. I will have pictures up in this thread tomorrow night or Monday night.
Stripping the 411 is turning out to be a bigger chore than I had anticipated. I have most if the coating off but there are a few stubborn areas. I just slathered on a bit more stripper. I will let it sit for a couple hours then clean the rest off.

Using a nylon brush (or old toothbrush) does wonders to help those stubborn spots…also along the handle interface. Use gloves, get close and dirty with it…slather it good and use the brush to work it.
I never left the stripper on for hours…only like 20 minutes. I guess it depends on the type of stripper being used. I like fast strippers…I have no patience. I want to see what's underneath all that stuff sooner rather than later
I read that it only takes 20 minutes or so but I either got the wrong stuff or it is taking longer because I am doing it in the garage, which was in the 20'sgarage last night. I will be home in an hour, and I will finish it up.

Definitely works better in warmer weather. I've used a heat gun and blow dryer to warm the blade up a little
Thats smart. I will remember that for next time.

So congrats on JYD now get some dern pics of that stripper 411 on here.
Here is the knife after my crappy strip job. Heading out to get some high grip sandpaper to try and polish it up a bit before starting the patina.
I like it the way it is! I am not a fan of high polished satin blades, I like the used look.
Final results after cleaning it a bit more and forcing a patina. I don't think it turned out to bad.

Looks great. I think you have gave me the inspiration to do mine this coming weekend. What did you use to force the patina?
Thanks sumo. I used hot apple cider vinegar.
I just regret not chemicaly etching the SYKCO logo before stripping the coating. I think had I etched first, it would really pop.

What is the process of chem etching?

Before the knife is stripped, put some PC board etchant (ferric chloride) on the logo. Let it sit for a while. Clean it off and repeat the process a few times.
Good info Ray!
Thanks for getting to that Ray. Bust day for me. Not much time to post.
It's all relative!

Just (this week) got my pouch sheath for the 411 from Jeff. It's just a simple unadorned pouch sheath but it of course reeks quality and should last the rest of MY lifetime and I am sure the Grandson's as well.
No doubt!

I've been patiently waiting for my 411 sheath from Jeff as well. He must be running a little behind. I know it'll be worth the wait.
Send him a P.M. and find out about it.

Send me an email or PM and I'll look into it. And yes I'm definitely running behind. Randy's been waiting quite a while for the one I just sent him...
There ya' go!
