Bitten by big dog - 1311 oopsie (Warning - Blood)

I was doing a spot of yard work today. Clearing bush tobacco plants, bamboo vines, lantana, all sorts of weeds and vines. The Scrap Yard 1311 is a perfect light bush knife and makes very short work of clearing scrub.

HOWEVER, a big lesson learned for me today - never swap hands when you're tired! I am right handed. My right hand cramped up a little and I was feeling a bit puffed. I swapped the knife into my left hand and continued hacking and slashing. The blade glanced off something and hit my right forearm as you can see. Lucky for me it wasn't too deep, more of a fillet. Fillet of Rob. I am normally always so careful with these things and I keep them razor sharp. That'll learn me! Play with the big dog, get bit by the big dog. Respect the big dog

Anyway, on to the gore...

Seriously, glad it was more or less a glancing blow. It COULD have been much worse. I've come close a time or two myself, a VERY sobering experience.

Yes, it's certainly a reminder to take care and respect the tools you're working with.

Thankfully no. The blade hit on an angle and literally filleted me. I filled it up with betadine and whacked a bandage on it and should heal up no worries.

I know mate! When I felt that hot sting when the blade hit I half expected to see much more of my forearm anatomy than I did.

It is awesome. I'm a gore fiend. Once I realised it was ok, out came the camera

Glad you are okay. I try to recognize fatigue, too.

I had a guy doing some work for me and he had to have two fingers reattached after he got careless with an 18" blade.

The long blades always make me think of the Tonga boy who whacked his foot in "The Other Side of Heaven"... and then died of tetanus. Safety first, fun second.
