I’m trying to decide if I can swing this with the baby on the way.
Posted By: SkunkHunter

Re: SYKCO Alpha Regulator 9.5 - 07/11/19 03:18 AM

I am sure the knife wouldn't be to heavy for you to swing Mike. Besides it would help you build up your strength to hold the baby.

Get it, I made a joke. Swing the heavy knife, build your strength up... Oh never mind. frown

That's where many entertainers got their start, so maybe a banjo player or two got their start there as well. grin

Re: SYKCO Alpha Regulator 9.5 - 07/22/19 01:57 PM

I wonder how many different versions of the regulator there were?

It must have been a very popular blade with all the different versions.

Like with guns and dollars…always one fewer than is needed grin

Re: SYKCO Alpha Regulator 9.5 - 08/08/19 04:09 AM

I think the Regulator was initially so popular because it was so darn cheap! 1/3 inch thick sharpened crowbar for just under $100 to get started. Then there was the reverse clip point one whose name escapes me…much like the blade escaped my hands (bull-nosed Regulator?). That one, my competition finish BWM, and the pumpkin G-10 R9 I sold back to the guy I bought it from for what it cost me because of a sob story only to see him sell it off for 2x the price the following week are the ones I regret. My War Dog I just miss frown But I digress…

I bought and sold probably half a dozen or more original-design Regulators, including a diff heat treated one (I think). I know that swooping clip point is catnip to some of the guys here (Dognip?), but it didn't push the right buttons for me. Too pointy to be a premier chopper. Too long to be a go-to hunting knife. Too thick to be a great slicer for camp. I also don't like pointy, upswept clip points. Different strokes, and all that.

I don't disparage it--it was one of the Yard's best sellers IIRC. Lots of love out there for it. Struck me as a jack-of-all-trades, but was a bit awkward to be an almost-master-of-any.

Probably an excellent fighting knife, which was its original designation, I believe. I like to hope my days in the octagon as a world champion knife fighter are behind me. I'll probably be wishing I still had a Regulator when some young punk recognizes me on the street from my days in the ring and wants to have a go of it...

Where are my meds?

Re: SYKCO Alpha Regulator 9.5 - 08/08/19 03:41 PM

Meds can be a good thing! I, like you am not in love with the Regulator. I have one, but it is one of the two knives gifted to me by another dog (the other was a Pumpkin handled black bladed BWM) Drool Dogs! I in turn gifted my original Regulator to a deserving dog that was going through hard times. SO even though I haven't fallin love with mine, I DO use it from time to time and won't be getting rid of it.

Oh and yeah it is nice hearing from you again.

I LOVE Regulators. I have a few and Tom sold me one that I will never sell.

Re: SYKCO Alpha Regulator 9.5 - 08/08/19 11:15 PM

I also have a Bulldog Regulator, which I actually like better than the standard Regulator. Of all the "sharpened pry-bars" I have, and if I needed an unbreakable blade I would pick the Bullreg. I am actually thinking of taking off the top "Guard" but not really sure I want to mutilate such a classic, limited hard to find blade.

Re: SYKCO Alpha Regulator 9.5 - 08/09/19 03:29 AM

You just LOVE to flaunt that BWM, dontcha Randy! grin

BULLDOG Regulator! That was out! Thanks Randy! That WAS a nice blade!

Now I could get behind a 9" INFI Bulldog Regulator!

Don't really know why the BullReg appeals to me so much, but it does. So much in fact that I had Rainwalker make me a custom leather sheath for it. Now THAT's a nice set up. Bullreg and Rainwalker. Oh and the sheath also has a loop for an Eze-Lap model M sharpener.

That's the one Ray. Randy, it appeals to you because it's awesome! I'd assume that Rainwalker set up is a thing of beauty. I've never seen anything he's made that wasn't a work of usable art smile

Fairy wings? Well, someone has to protect Santa grin

Re: SYKCO Alpha Regulator 9.5 - 08/12/19 02:56 AM

Haha, I seem to remember someone (can't remember who though) whistle doing a few Christmas cards as part of the SPB (Santa Protection Bureau) and once at least as a "Guardian Angel". Even though folks called them Fairy wings. Everyone knows fairies don't exist, well maybe except in San Francisco.

We had a lot of fun making those Cards.

Yeah Jeff's work is first rate for sure! I would post up a picture of the sheath but flickr has changed how things are done and I can't figure out how to post pics here any more. That's how I lost my Avatar. frown

Re: SYKCO Alpha Regulator 9.5 - 08/16/19 12:49 AM

I try to be Tom. To me it's like Politics or Religion. It's OK to talk about it, it's OK to argue about it, but it's NOT OK to get all bent out of shape about it. If we can't laugh at ourselves how can we be expected to laugh about anything? Laughter (and NON dirty insults) can make a bad day turn good. Why do you guys think we made all those Christmas cards. I thought Y'all could use a good laugh. And besides it's laughing WITH me, not AT me if you get my drift. I am not good at explaining things sometimes.

Yeah and maybe I could finally get a descent cup of coffee! grin But none of that cat processed stuff. wink

Seriously, thank You Ray. I try and not take myself to seriously. Life is to short and full of it's own troubles without us adding our lousy attitude into the mix. I can't say that I am always a "Don't worry, be Happy" kind of guy but I try and keep a smile on my face when I am out and about.

I would rather have a Tigger attitude than that of Eeyore.
