OH MAN! A Mini Taliwhacker would be one of the best knives ANY of the Bussekin companies could ever come out with. AND I bet they would sell several thousand to er ah um our Big Brother.
I know that I would have to buy one or two. They would be the perfect blade for our worsening world.
PLEASE DAN, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE??????
Oh and Dan, the Mini Taliwhacker needs to have a handle like the 511. I think that would be the most logical handle given that specific knife and the uses it will be put to. (But I'm just a lowly chairman so what do I know about stuff like that)
It would work for a combat knife (although some would call it to short), a survival blade and also a pretty good CCW blade. BUT the concealed aspect of it would probably be better served with a Micarta or G10 handle so it wouldn't snag on your clothing. Then again the RES-C compound you use may not be all that "Grippy" on clothing. It would take some testing. Tell you what. Come up with a prototype, send it to me and I will carry it for a month and let you know how it fares. IF you could find some kind of Stainless, that would be great. But if you used your powder coating I think that would give enough rust protection even from sweat and blood to work. Oh and the Mossy coating would be especially nice, as it is thicker and is actually a much slicker finish. Just trying to help out ya know.

I was trying to work up a decent joke thread but hadn't come up with anything good yet besides "I joined some esteemed company" ...got word on my promotion a week or two ago. Woohoo Behavioral Health! 73A baby! Everybody's favorite in the Army!
On to more important things...the Mini-TW!
I think Res C all the way. I find they are more balanced and lighter. My 2 cents more...

HOPEFULLY! What with the Radical Left (and right for that matter) taking over congress we might well need something like that. I know I would get a good IWB sheath for mine.
It would be like the old American Express commercials, "Don't leave home without it"!

Re: The Mini-TW! - 08/29/19 09:20 PM
Now if Dan will just see these posts...
And I am sure that Tom, Spider Pig, Banana Clip and a few other Veterans here, and me of course, would clamor for one as well. Dan already has SEVERAL guaranteed sales. Now all he has to do is reduce it (the Taliwhacker) down to (let's say 4 inches total blade length for those jurisdictions where 4 inches is the limit) and it will be good to go! Oh and yeah make it a kinda mini/micro choil so it can be more easily sharpened in the field. Just make a small 1/8 inch cut at the plunge line and it's good.
How about it Big Dog?

That would be an awesome set up.
You want a choil? I think I want more cutting edge
Posted By: SkunkHunter
Re: The Mini-TW! - 08/29/19 11:58 PM
I was thinking a "Mini" choil Just take NO MORE than 1/8 inch toward the point from the Plunge line. That would be a minimal choil yet allow for using round rods or any kind of stone to sharpen every bit of the edge. In my experience (and I am NO expert), sharpening all the way to the plunge line (no choil) can leave for a small portion of the edge that can not be sharpened because the edge against the plunge line is quite a bit thicker than the actual cutting part of the edge further along the edge toward the point.
Hope I haven't confused you with my lame attempt at an explanation.

Better to be a cut up than cut on! Speaking of which, we have to go to St. Louis early this coming week and my Ironman suit won't be back from the Welders until Thursday. What's a man to do.
I guess I could wear my Jason, the Golden Years outfit, but on second thought that probably wouldn't faze the folks in St. Louis. At least we are gonna be on the Southwest side of town where it will hopefully be a lot safer. St Louis is starting to turn into a cesspool like Chicago!

Whenever we go to bigger towns or out of state I have the General drive. I keep my pistol in the glove box right in front of me. I hope I NEVER need to use it, but it's handy in case I do.

You DO know, that if you have a valid Missouri CCW permit you are allowed to carry CCW in almost all the states. Here is a list of all the states that recognize Missouri's CCW. Oh and make sure you have a good knife (as if I had to tell you). BTW I will be carrying my 45 Ruger CMD to St. Louis.

And I forgot to add, last time we went to the Smoky Mtns I carryed my Sig 40 IN THE PARK. A "Warden" there told me it was just like Missouri and they had to follow the state laws. You just couldn't carry INSIDE any of their buildings.
Those are a couple of excellent sites you listed Randy.

I think that he would sell a few. Same handle as the original just a little smaller to fit the smaller blade size. Or go with a War Dog type handle?
Posted By: SkunkHunter
Re: The Mini-TW! - 02/12/20 04:11 AM
I'm thinkin that the 511 size handle would work really nice. Hey Dan, make a few and pass them around to the Mods er ah a few good Dogs for T&E and we'll report back to you as to how they handle mundane tasks and abuse.
I actually do think that this would make an excellent "Survival" blade. It would have the correct length (not more than 4.25) and the right blade thickness 3/16 and the correct blade height, just maybe an eighth inch taller from edge to spine as the 511. Oh and it would have to have that Tanto appearing point, WITHOUT actually being a tanto.
Or just get a MegaWeiler and be ready for ANYthing.
Another "size" thread.
You guy need to find a hobby ... that doesn't involve ... measuring "stuff".

I've actually wondered if a bigger handle like the Trash's would be a plus...help with a secure grip.
C'mon Gary...we are still guys/boys...that's what we do!
LOL The one thing that would make a B-11 better would be a slightly bigger handle, like the DogFather handle.
Posted By: SkunkHunter
Re: The Mini-TW! - 02/13/20 03:34 PM
So the B-11 has the same handle as the B-8?
The B-11 has the OLD basic handle Busse used years ago on the Basic line.

C'mon Dan!
Weigh in on this dream blade please!
Posted By: SkunkHunter
Re: The Mini-TW! - 02/17/20 02:47 PM
It would make an epic combat blade. Long enough to do all the regular tasks of a "War" blade, opening MRE's boxes and other regular mundane tasks. And at the same time the wide blade (for it's length) would make for a stronger more robust "Last resort" blade and with the modified tanto looking tip, wouldn't have any problem with penetration.
No, it wouldn't be as long as many experts claim it needs to be for a "Killin" knife, but it doesn't need to be a blade like that. It needs to be a blade that Those that go in harms way would actually carry AND use, for a multitude of uses.
Posted By: SkunkHunter
Re: The Mini-TW! - 02/17/20 02:59 PM
The Tali-Whacker as Tom pointed out is not as brawny as the Last Rites, although they do look similar. That being said, the Mini Tali-Whacker (IF Dan would make it) would also not be as robust as a miniature version of the Last Rites. BUT with Dan and Jerry's National Treasure process for heat treatment I don't think anyone would ever need to worry about one breaking on them if it were ever needed to defend someone's life. AND as previously stated it would not only make a great combat blade but be one heck of a great CCW knife to boot!
It would certainly be more useful than a bayonet for the mundane tasks.

Re: The Mini-TW! - 02/17/20 11:06 PM
I have heard it said MANY times, a Soldiers blade is SELDOM used for anything BUT mundane tasks. And that's a good thing.

Re: The Mini-TW! - 02/23/20 05:45 AM
I wanted to say a Mudder handle on the Mini, but I think it would just look wrong. I think that it would need a more common looking type handle to keep from looking like something the Martians would use.
On second thought Res-C probably wouldn't be to "Grippy" on clothing after all. I mean it isn't to grippy on clothing on the Muppy or 511 or even the S5 or S6.
OK, the handle could MAYBE be a little larger handle like on the 711 as I THINK it is just a tad larger than the 511's handle. BUT DAN, IF you prototype it I know you will pick the correct handle, not matter what kind it would be.
Randy, you are SO fussy!
Posted By: RN
Re: The Mini-TW! - 02/23/20 01:27 PM
I wonder what a full sized regular handle (Trash sized) would feel like and perform like. Would it give a stronger and more secure grip?
I would also wonder about the War Dog handle and what that would feel like. Of course, the Howling Rat res c handle is easy to go with and would reduce bulk and works fine with my hand.
Thanks for chiming in Dan- me and Randy are excited about this one but I think it would be a real versatile blade!

Re: The Mini-TW! - 02/23/20 10:44 PM

Full size Basic or a War Dog handle
I still like the full-sized DogFather handle.
I've had a couple of DF but don't have one now. Isn't the DF handle the same as the 711 and 911 handle? If yes, its my favorite for large knives.
Right on Gary!
Posted By: SkunkHunter
Re: The Mini-TW! - 02/26/20 11:11 PM
OK. I concede to superior wisdom. Basic (aka DF) handle it is. But PLEASE make it 4 inches with just a maybe 1/4 inch sharpening choil so you could sharpen it all the way to the end next to the handle, or just grind it that way and leave off the choil IF the sharpened edge was close enough to your fingers.
We wouldn't want you to cut yourself Randy! LOL

Re: The Mini-TW! - 03/05/20 11:41 PM
OK, you asked so here ya go. Us Mods are here to serve YOU.
In an earlier post I said:
I think that a MINI TRASH with a 4.25 inch blade and maybe 50-60% the height of the TRASH1 and a thickness of 5/32 (.1562) inch and a Full Flat Grind. Most of the folks that have an ASH/TRASH and use it know how truly handy that blade shape can be. Just imagine how much handier something like this would be. And once again with the Basic handle. I WOULD buy at least two of these very handy I think blades. How say you Dawgs.
Heck, even 70 percent of the blade height wouldn't be out of line perhaps.
Now note I specified just a bit over 1/8 inch but less than 3/16. To me the ASH/TRASH blades are nothing more than are slightly dropped spear points that have only been sharpened on one side. Yes I think they have a bit more "Belly" thereby making them well suited to a multitude of bush craft or Outdoor functions. If you look at the blade profile in the Scrapyard Knife Specs thread you will see what I mean.
It has a rather long section of straight edge for any tasks that might require an edge of that type, like splitting wood and carving. It also has a rather for the size at least, a substantial "Belly" allowing it to work quite well as a skinning or filleting blade. THIS is why I specified a blade of I THINK it comes out to 5/32 inch, in between 1/8 and 3/16. It would be a SYKCO bush craft blade for pretty well all things out doors. Be being such a "Tall" blade you could pinch it between your thumb and index finger and allow the rest of the blade/handle to run along your wrist to the forearm for, once again skinning and filleting or any other task that needs to be held in that manner.
These two knives, IF I was rich I WOULD have built by someone. I would much prefer it were Dan doing the manufacturing.
ETA. P.S. or what ever. PLEASE Dan, get rid of that square choil! Now the choil on the Muppy is fantastic. It actually helps to hold your finger against the handle. THAT is a great feature.
Posted By: SkunkHunter
Re: The Mini-TW! - 03/06/20 12:19 AM
You know, after actually studying the picture of the Mud Puppy all Dan would have to do is lengthen the straight portion of the blade some, make the spine just a tad straighter as well, then plunge it downward toward the tip and like magic, you've got a Mini Trash 1. And leave the Mudders as well. Man would that make for a sweet blade.
So Dan, we NEED the Mini Tali-Whacker AND a Mini Trash1! I'm sure you could come up with a catchy name of some kind. Like the Trash Puppy, (The TP). Or how about DPS (Dog Pound Special). Hey, it could work.

Hope all are well. Still on a mission to a Soldiers Home. There have been a lot of deaths, a good number of vets have recovered and we hope to drawn down in about 2 weeks. I got sick a couple weeks ago...tested negative but docs figure I had it. About 10-15% of our force has been sick and tested positive or presumed positive.
Hope you all are well and staying healthy!

True, course they are all Brain Dead. Except for Rich. We've turned him into a gun buying, knife carrying Red Blooded Conservative! I think we've done good.

Man I sure hope the Mini TW is priced right. I could use at least a couple of them, maybe three!

Tom, when you get your evaluation prototype be sure and give it a good workout, meaning abuse the tar out of it. Pretend it was your only weapon and the hoards are knocking at the door and you have to dig through 6 inches of weather hardened Oak and 50 signed pictures of AOC and Pelosi that you so cleverly lined the floor of your dogs house with to get to your primary weapons stash.
You sure nailed the floor lining right! LOL

Are we there yet?

Re: The Mini-TW! - 06/18/20 06:28 PM
No word from Dan. But there is still hope. I'm ALMOST getting tired of buying folders. I need a 4 inch fixed bladed TW (or an SS4 would work).

Re: The Mini-TW! - 06/19/20 11:52 AM
James Williams has an awesome kwaiken made by winkler knives. The blade size is great and the sheath is unbelievable...but I hated the handle. That one is close to perfection...

Nice hard use knife after the slicer...good variety Dan!

I KNOW it’s a sin, but I am so lusting after a Mini Tali-Whacker. Especially after the election. A Good 4 inch fixed blade is almost mandatory! I mean they’re not talking about banning knives, yet, so we gotta get ‘me while we can. come on Dan, our Active Military and us Retired Warriors and Law Enforcement Need this!
Keep on trying Randy!

Keep on trying Randy!
Always Prepared, Never Surrender.
Way to go!
Actually, there's already a knife that you are asking for... it's the Swamp Rat Bandicoot & Inficoot. Closest thing we will probably ever see anyways, considering Swamp Rat isn't doing Res-c and I doubt Scrap Yard is going to offer a knife design that is from Swamp Rat.

Hmm. Add probably a half inch of blade height, maybe add a little more pronounced belly and Magically you got a Mini Half Trash, or MHT!
Now once again add about 1/4 inch blade height, get rid of some belly, make the blade a more continuous curve from handle to tip (make sure it has the Mini Tali “tip”) and again, You got a Mili Tali-Whacker or the MTW!

yep- I love my bandicoot and do look at it sometimes thinking "just bend up"...
some folks on BF push for a larger version too. That would be fun, but I want an edc/tactical

Rich, I have an old style BM Nimravus cub I have set up for inverted carry that is Suweeeet! Not to sure about the new ones. I tend to shy away from aluminum handles. They can get to slick. My old NC has micarta handles and is really great.

Actually, I had a Taliwhacker LE years ago... I don't believe it actually turns up. It's an illusion, it actually goes the other way... if that makes sense. It's not upturned, trust me... you could probably do a similar mod on the Bandicoot to change the clip point to the same profile as you'd actually be removing metal in a gentle curve to bring the tip further away from where the spine connects to handle.

This should becoming soon. I bet Dan would sell a bunch of them. Many know the usefulness of the Ash-1/Trash already. Just imagine how useful the Mini would be.

Re: The Mini-TW! - 05/02/22 08:08 PM
Hey Dan, you’ve heard the saying “If you build it they will come”, but what you didn’t know is they were talking about the MINI SASH! ( Mini Skinny Ash). You know, 4.5 inch blade about .150-.170 inch thick with no more than a half inch choil (if any choil at all) with mudders or Wardog handle. But the mudders would look a lot sexier. Heck! Just stretch the Muppy out to 4.5 inches and maybe about 3/16 to 1/4 inch taller blade and call it golden!
Heck if it gets built I’ll buy at least two myself.
Well golly Gee Wally, Call either one the Dog Crafter ant you will have other bushcrafter knives shaking in their sheathes. !

Re: The Mini-TW! - 05/03/22 04:14 AM
Of all the knife “designs” I have come up with I think the Mini-Skinny Ash (OK, the Mini SASH) would be the most versatile.
