The DPS (Dog Pound Special)

The DPS (Dog Pound Special) - 03/06/20 12:23 AM

Ok, RN asked for more info when I mentioned something about a Mini Trash1 (Henceforth called the DPS, or Dog Pound Special grin) Then I said:

OK, you asked so here ya go. Us Mods are here to serve YOU.

In an earlier post I said:
Quote
I think that a MINI TRASH with a 4.25 inch blade and maybe 50-60% the height of the TRASH1 and a thickness of 5/32 (.1562) inch and a Full Flat Grind. Most of the folks that have an ASH/TRASH and use it know how truly handy that blade shape can be. Just imagine how much handier something like this would be. And once again with the Basic handle. I WOULD buy at least two of these very handy I think blades. How say you Dawgs.
Heck, even 70 percent of the blade height wouldn't be out of line perhaps.

Now note I specified just a bit over 1/8 inch but less than 3/16. To me the ASH/TRASH blades are nothing more than are slightly dropped spear points that have only been sharpened on one side. Yes I think they have a bit more "Belly" thereby making them well suited to a multitude of bush craft or Outdoor functions. If you look at the blade profile in the Scrapyard Knife Specs thread you will see what I mean.

It has a rather long section of straight edge for any tasks that might require an edge of that type, like splitting wood and carving. It also has a rather for the size at least, a substantial "Belly" allowing it to work quite well as a skinning or filleting blade. THIS is why I specified a blade of I THINK it comes out to 5/32 inch, in between 1/8 and 3/16. It would be a SYKCO bush craft blade for pretty well all things out doors. Be being such a "Tall" blade you could pinch it between your thumb and index finger and allow the rest of the blade/handle to run along your wrist to the forearm for, once again skinning and filleting or any other task that needs to be held in that manner.

These two knives, IF I was rich I WOULD have built by someone. I would much prefer it were Dan doing the manufacturing.

ETA. P.S. or what ever. PLEASE Dan, get rid of that square choil! Now the choil on the Muppy is fantastic. It actually helps to hold your finger against the handle. THAT is a great feature.

Also located elsewhere, but posted here so they would be together, I said:

You know, after actually studying the picture of the Mud Puppy all Dan would have to do is lengthen the straight portion of the blade some, make the spine just a tad straighter as well, then plunge it downward toward the tip and like magic, you've got a Mini Trash 1. And leave the Mudders as well. Man would that make for a sweet blade.

So Dan, we NEED the Mini Tali-Whacker AND a Mini Trash1! I'm sure you could come up with a catchy name of some kind. Like the Trash Puppy, (The TP). Or how about DPS (Dog Pound Special). Hey, it could work. grin

Kinda reminds of an idea I begged for before...a Mini-Skinny Ash. I thought a scaled down skinny ash would be an awesome belt knife...

Over on another thread someone mentioned Elmax. I wonder how an Elmax DPS would work out.

Come on Dan, You GOT to at least try these blades. If they don't work then sell the prototypes at a higher price point as a "Prototype" blade. That way everybody wins!

What a guy!

Re: The DPS (Dog Pound Special) - 03/08/20 03:35 AM

The DPS sounds like a good idea, except I would say get rid of the choil period; I really do not see a need for a choil on a 4" blade. A tiny sharpening notch would be ok if necessary, but no choil.

Re: The DPS (Dog Pound Special) - 03/08/20 04:23 AM

I agree, just a choil large enough to allow you to sharpen all the way to the rear of the blade.

Re: The DPS (Dog Pound Special) - 03/08/20 07:51 PM

Haha, When ever Dan decides to prototype, test and then market it. (Don't hold your breath, it may take a while). ALTHOUGH, IF he was to have a PACKAGE DEAL of the MTW and THE DPS, Man what a combo!

Re: The DPS (Dog Pound Special) - 03/08/20 08:04 PM

That's funny, I thought you would probably like that combo deal. smile grin

Re: The DPS (Dog Pound Special) - 03/08/20 08:12 PM

Oh the combo deal would be nice, and I do still have a spare kidney. Heck at my age why do I need two of them.

Re: The DPS (Dog Pound Special) - 03/08/20 08:15 PM

I am a BIG supporter of the Mini Tali-Whacker. But in all fairness I think that the DPS would be a better knife for civilian use. It I think would be more flexible in the tasks it could preform where as the MTW would be more of a "Combat" or just general use blade and the DPS would be more geared toward bushcrafter or "Survival" as in utility NOT "Combat" work.

Re: The DPS (Dog Pound Special) - 03/09/20 12:55 AM

I think you're a little past combat Randy. smile

Re: The DPS (Dog Pound Special) - 03/09/20 02:43 AM

You are incorrect Tom. I am NOT a little past combat, I am A LOT past combat.

I can't really see a mini-Trash 1.

Re: The DPS (Dog Pound Special) - 03/10/20 03:21 AM

Alas, I have thought that pretty much all along. But it's nice to dream. grin

As the Bible says, young men have dreams and old men have visions. Guess I should have said it's nice to have visions. smile

I'm sure glad you don't know how to bring the pressure...kind of like a discussion with Patti LOL

All I can say is that I will give it some serious thought...no promises
