Which movie Randy? The old Jim Bowie television show starring Scott Forbes was in black and white, but movies such as "The Iwon Misress" with Alan Ladd were in color.
It's been 3 weeks already geeze. I am starting to remember how I got bored waiting for new releases. I understand a little teasing and building anticipation but 3 weeks and not a single detail. I'll probably forget to check back in and miss it like the trash2. Which equals less money for Busse. You guys need to evolve with the times a little
I remember what two weeks means. I go in and out of collecting brands and watching Busse now the market has changed. Their are a lot of knives in the consumer pool now. The secondary market has crashed and unless you have something super rare you cant even sell it for what you buy for anymore. The exchange has gone from a lightning fast quick draw to get what you want to a snail's crawl. It makes buying ones you are on the fence about a tough proposition.
I say this as a fan of the brand. I say this as I wait to see what the next offering is I could possibly spend my hard earned money on. They are just observations. I want to buy more and others do as well obviously. But teasing customers for 3 weeks with no new info is rough. I could care less if they show us a pic and give specs and wait 6 months to officially offer it, at least I know what I am waiting for. One could just adjust their buying habits to just watch the exchange and buy stuff below retail, that doesnt help keep people buying or moving the brand forward but it may already be an adapted strategy by some.
I love seeing stuff available in the store and wish all three brands had stuff available. I have bought two swamp offerings recently. Want to add more scraps to my arsenal now
The the secondary market has changed a lot since I first got in. BUSSE using SR101 shanked it in many ways. While I have made a little money on blades there were custom shop and/or INFI or real old school collectors pieces I can’t even get my money out of any of the swamp rat knives I’m trying to sell with sheaths. Used to be a safe bet you could buy something and once in hand if you didn’t like it at least get out of it even or a very small loss/profit I didn’t realize in the last 5 years how strongly the shift to high end folders was for many knife guys.
While I’m interested to see what’s coming I might not be buying.

I think the 2 big problems currently are the COVID economy (#1) followed by market saturation (#2). Compared to years ago, new Busse/kin models are released more often, and it is my opinion the market is flooded – couple that with an economy that went from boom to bust in a matter of a few months is NOT helping sales. I sold a bunch of Busse knives over the past 2 years – I made money on some and lost money on others. The popularity of a particular model means a lot when trying to sell one, along with the price you paid. Once COVID is under control (a good vaccine and better treatment options), I feel the economy will pick up (assuming the President will be reelected – God help us otherwise).
Heck, just grind it out, heat treat it and get rid of the scale and call it good (well yeah, you would sharpen it of course). You COULD call it the SUL series, the Scrapyard Ugly Line! NO, no need to compensate me for the name. Just another service provided by your friendly helpful Mods. Just think of all the marketing opportunities.

I vote Busse Industrial Grade Satin Finish! I know that wasn't an option, but to me this finish is beautiful in an industrial kinda way AND begs to be used... would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see this finally grace a Scrap Yard!
I'd also vote for competition finish or BIG Double Cut.... really ANYTHING but coated please!!!! Even pricey hand applied satin would be much better to me than coated... lol.
Okay, Okay... the coatings are not that bad... I am learning to be OK with them but I dislike just being OK with a knife that cost upwards of $100. I'd rather love it from top to bottom and wanna curl up in bed with it LOL.
thanks guys, hopefully ill be able to post more often, its been a while. hope everyone is doing well. ill try to jump into death chat and do some catching up
Except Dan never said two weeks. Usually when they hint at a new one it's not but a couple days till we see a pic. Not like this is a chant wishing for a new model.
I am not normally into saw-back blades, but the BattleSaw that Jerry delivered is a pretty awesome blade. I suspect that the new Swamp blade will be too.

They look cool, but I've never used one. I just know I would end up in the ER. I would need one with a TG style guard
I'm thinking the Yard has something else in the works since the newest rat is made from SR-77. Hmmmmmm... Mr. Dan, wanna give us some more insight? Inquiring minds and all.
Yeah, I'd be a lot more excited if it was a regular Mountain-Man-du with no saw, coating or comp finish, and $150 cheaper Hopefully, that wasn't the big reveal Dan's been teasing us with for months now
Well, you can tell by the way I shake my tail I'm a funky squirrel, and I'm all male! Acorns ripe and nests all warm, I've been chased by hawks Since I was born And now it's alright, it's okay I'm gonna run the other way We can try to understand Why digging gardens angers man Whether you're a nutter or rolling in the gutter You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive Feel the tree branch breakin' and all our tails are shakin' And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive
YhAaaaaand he’s back! Great to have you posting again Joshua. Hope you are doing better. Me, I have turned to the dark side. I’m now a Glock 48 fan boy.
Thanks Randy! There's a reason my avatar is a squirrel. My attention shifts from one thing to the next at the drop of a hat. But yes, 6 months of being home was amazing. Last night--second night after coming home--my oldest saw me walk in and said "You ok dad? You look totally defeated!"
Yeah.... That about summed up how I felt. Just 10 more years...
Josh, I didn't know that they made Zig-Zag papers that big!
Hehe, I thought the same thing Tom. But DO NOT EVER, EVER EVER, try and smoke Sunflower seed husks. No, don't ask I'll only lie to you. I'm not sure how long the statute of limitations extend out.

Kind of like a Scrap Satin?
Interesting
Dan
YES, YOU NAILED IT WITH SCRAP SATIN!!
BRAVO!! Been waiting a LONG time to find some SR-101 from Scrap Yard without a coating OR a high price hand applied satin job.
PERFECT, NOW PLEASE ALLOW THIS TO BE A REGULAR FINISH OPTION MOVING FORWARD!!
Mm, if I remember correctly, the Kukri length includes the handle. So, of you want a 5-6 inch handle you would need up to a 16 incher. But Dan has said that a kukri would waste to much steel for his performance to price point. That said, it would be really nice.
I have a Camp 10 paired with a robust folder piggyback and it is nice.

Yeah a 11-12" blade with a Reg handle so 16-17 or so overall.
Also Dan said no before, but they made the BB13 plus we a have a SQUATCH on our side now!
Also the excess can be used to make the Mini TW
I have a CS GK Plus, its great, but SR101 and Res-C would make it much better
True Tom, but they aren’t as maneuverable. (I’ve been reading Sun Tsu) again. Hit and run in small groups. They will waste time and resources preparing for what may never come, nor where they expect.
I got a big chunk of SR-101 coming. It just makes sense
Stay Tuned
Dan
Design is done for the most part...any idea what SR-101 weights?
Maybe oz's or pounds could help the Dogs better understand
Soon Dogs Soon!!!
OH, Dan you TEASE!!!
I will check back in a few months, I'll probably miss it by then... but I've already been checking back for months now... and I don't really have it in me to keep getting my hopes up anymore every time I check and see nothing.
Here is the version I settled on. Sorry but I don’t know how to copy my Amazon order of this (Kindle) version without all my info showing up. Yes, I am technologically challenged.
The Only Award-Winning English Translation of Sun Tzu's The Art of War: More Complete and More Accurate Fourth Edition by Sun Tzu (Author), Gary Gagliardi (Author, Translator)
I have 3 or 4 versions of Sun Tzu's the Art of War. The literal translation is my favorite. It's brief and to the point. The Prince by Machiavelli is also a solid read (brief) if you get a chance.
thats what I am hoping for, when they first rolled the Alpha Reg out they did say eventually it would be a regular offering so it does make sense and fingers are crossed.

I can only get behind this if there is no hugegungous choil, that thing really kills it for me... something along the lines of the W.S. 1020 or 1311/1111 would be great. Usable but not obtrusive in the least...
Of course, I would HAVE to have it in Scrap Satin also... but yeah.... no big choil for this guy. Skip the choil altogether and it would be my favorite large knife of all, the handle is that good... especially if it were more like an Alpha Regulator 11 or 12.

Just posted this on my facebook page. The amount of folks who posted congrats is killing me. My grandma even called me on the phone lol. It's a great laugh, happy Friday Dan and the rest of you Dogs!
WELL.. it's OFFICIAL!!!
We have some amazing, yet shocking news.... We're expecting!!!!! 5 weeks ish today!!! We weren't going to post it on facebook, but since you are all our family and close friends, we thought this was the best way to share the news!!! We were just too happy to keep this secret any longer!!! Can you believe it???? We're expecting Santa in just 5 weeks!!! We can't wait until he arrives 😂😂😂😂

I think you will like it
Dan
Wow, that's awesome.... you just made my week Dan! Would it be too much to ask for an option on the handles? Seriously, it sounds like a silly little bit of unnecessary price point addition to add in these options... but to me (and likely others out there) at this point it's virtually a deal breaker if black is the only option.
I mean, let's face it... we've come a LONG way since the Ford Model - T (you can have ANY color you want, AS LONG AS IT'S BLACK!). By no means would I expect multiple color options as regular offerings (considering your Price/Performance ratio), but just to have ANY color OTHER than black would be amazing.
You see, as much as I might like to pretend I am a super spooky ninja that disappears in the shadows.... this has never been true. These days, I am much more concerned about my knife disappearing in the folds of my clothing!! Therefore, black sticks out like a sore thumb (I wear white/gray/khaki). Tan works great tho!
As another note, I just do not like black as a color.... in fact black is NOT a color. Shocking, I know, right??? It is in fact ALL of the colors AT ONCE!! This obviously makes for a very chaotic arrangement, which is not desirable in something as highly refined and meticulously crafted as we all know Scrap Yard knives to be!
Therefore, I beg upon you, Dan.... PLEASE hear my humble plea to grant us mere Mortal Mutt's the option to choose a SINGLE color for a knife handle BESIDES black. I believe a reasonable compromise for another color would be something neutral and earth toned... sage (tan), light olive (green), brown... A La Mud Mutt!
July 4th is the start of the thread. We have been checking back in and begging for 6 months now for more info. I cant even get it for Christmas now, cant bring in the new year with a new scrapper toy to play with. 2020 has sucked and we have been holding onto this little ray of sunshine only to be let down by this year once again. Busse and the swamp have put out a handful of blades combined since this thread started. We really do need to fend for ourselves around the dog bowl.
Did I sound like one of my kids making a scene? It's what I was going for
Well, the Yard DID release the WS-1020, but it's certainly NOT a "big chunk of SR-101". Jerry is releasing the "P&L Statement" knife tomorrow, so I imagine the production lines will be working on those. So, I guess it will be a while longer.
Have to supplement the addiction with used market goods.. cpl scrappers and the WS i just picked up will add up to a big chunk of 101 when piled together ..
Being from the southeast part of the state, we’re pretty safe (so far) from the PDS (poor demented souls ) of St. Louis and Kansas City. So far we aren’t doin to bad. And with Missouri being a Constitutional carry state, we’re way ahead of others.
Well after 6 months of checking in and checking in I think I am leaving this site back in 2020. Time to bring in the new year with a new focus. If I see something pop up on bladeforums that catches my eye I'll reevaluate if I want it then.
Hope yall have a happy 2021 and all your knife dreams come true in 2 weeks.....well in this case a most ridiculous 6 months
I'll poke in from time to time I'm sure. I am just getting rid of the always open tab at the end of the evening. I am going to focus on learning to make knives next year instead of buying more I dont need
Especially when we get teased for 6 months. The small 1020 or whatever was teased for a day or two and boom we see it. That's how it should be. I just feel like I have wasted my time checking back in for no reason. I wrote the shop asking for an email if they had an extra bronze trash2 and never got a reply, just to watch people get them in grab bags. This company ain't the same anymore and the fan base has left. Just telling it like it is. Doesnt change how much I love the knives I have, just where I spend my money in the future. Busse needs to change up their marketing and bring some life back into the forums. It's kinda sad you cant even sell a new one for what you bought it for anymore.
When I first got into Bussekin I was at the beginning of my prepper phase. With lockdowns it was the "take my health and fitness serious" phase. Next year will be a more political/community building phase. I don't think they are really phases, but I have my BOB and I stayed home. My health will be a daily focus and the community building will be more than a phase. I don't trust any politician at this point.
Must have. I am walking sort of unbalanced these last couple months. And considering the change coming up in 19 days I ordered a new cane for when I can’t carry a gun or a knife.
My state has a wonderful law that prohibits the carrying of a bludgeon, billy or any type of a Kung-fu weapon. It appears that a Cane Master could be interpreted to fall under that classification and a person can be arrested and the court would have to make a determination. Cane Master canes are distinctive enough that I’m not going to wager that a LEO wouldn’t know about them. Good for you that your state is not as oppressive as mine.
Since I have a bum knee and recently have an occasional need fora cane. I took a crookneck hickory cane and clipped the rounded end of the crook for more of a pointed edge. It works just like it did before but it is more useful for grabbing and locking limbs and joints. It's a pretty decent unarmed tactic.
I know it is kinda nuts to pay that much but we all have things we like. At last count I have 7 canes and 5 “hiking” staffs. Oh and I have one hickory 5 ft tall cane I got at a flea market. It’s really nice.
That doesn’t mean anything in this state since the authorities can say it is a weapon as well as a cane. That is the reason I cannot carry a sword cane or an umbrella cane even if is an actual cane or umbrella.
Missouri is a little different . Like you can carry virtually any “pocket” knife as long as the blade is under 4 inches. BUT, you can nit carry ANY fixed blade concealed.
The last time I carried my Cold Steel sword cane was on a trip to the VA when I severely twisted my knee. The doctor noticed it, and when I said that it was the only cane I owned he got me one of the nicer metal ones. The CS cane has a wickedly sharp point.
We cannot carry concealed any blade longer than 3” whether fixed or golfing. We can open carry carry a fixed blade of any length. I have carried a Mauser bayonet while surf fishing because sometimes I caught sharks. I have also carried a sword in the city at times when I was participating in a ceremony but my Civil War unit was part of the National Guard.
Missouri is a little different . Like you can carry virtually any “pocket” knife as long as the blade is under 4 inches. BUT, you can nit carry ANY fixed blade concealed.
California has great knife laws as a state. You can carry ANY length folding knife either open or concealed carry. You can carry ANY length fixed blade knife open carry on your belt. You cannot carry any length fixed blade concealed. Switchblades made in CA with a blade 2" or less are legal.
Now, big urban centers have additional laws that you would expect from CA, but the rural areas are pretty good. Sacramento oddly enough doesn't have any extra laws above the state laws. There used to be a legally blind guy who would go for walks carrying a katana. People would call the cops on him all the time and they'd tell them that unless he was brandishing it there wasn't anything they could do.
Of course there was an odd loophole in Sacramento laws that allowed one to be naked on sidewalks and streets, but not parks or yards.
Of course there was an odd loophole in Sacramento laws that allowed one to be naked on sidewalks and streets, but not parks or yards.
I always found this a problem when trying to conceal knives.
I awlays wanted to ask why our guns laws are trash but our knife laws are cool.. I figure people would say "You're right!" and screw up our knife laws.
Probably pass on this one. I am bidding on a Weatherby 12ga pump just like my other ones, the PA-459 TR. I will have 20 and 12 both covered. Self shuckers and Manuel in both gauges if I win it on Gun brokers.
That ganzaa has some cool ones forsure.. pricing on the ones id actually use were very reasonable too.. guess cerakote isnt a huge cost to add esp when theres already a huge batch going through the works . I say roll through the existing models again.. but with coloured res c options if possible.. OH DAN .. maybe you could tie us over with some morale patches perhaps " f@#% covid, i survived the sykco massive wait 2020/21" ... or a sykco dog lanyard bead ! Only seen the rat and hog..
I received an email saying the Scrapyard WS-221 is coming Wednesday and I thought for sure it was going to be our big chunk of steel... I couldn’t have been more wrong
Tyin to cover all the bases. Dan DID say a big ole chunk.

OR Dan could put 3 flared SS tubes through the handle. Just space the holes out evenly and everybody would be happy.
Dan = selling more blades. David Browm = selling more sheaths Us Dogs = getting a Very necessary blade considering that Edged Weapons will be all that well is gonna be accessible to all us Deplorables now that “They” control everything.
Heck Dan, just a regulator Handle might work. Just prototype one up and see how it handles.
Shucks, just send the prototype to me and I’ll give it a good honest workout and let ya know how it feels. Shoot just let me know and I’ll pay the shipping fees!
Us Mods is here to help YOU out as well when you’re stuck in a creative rut.

You know it's been so long since this thread started, are we waiting on pics of a 'Big Chunk' or a 'Big Hunk? Who can really say anymore.... maybe somebody can sort this out soon with some pics.
Hehe, Patty had me walking down the street one block over from the University. Then a member (active duty Marine) who works in (public Relations)? Took the pic and worked his magic. He is also the one that put the plunger on the rifle in my avatar. He did one wher the plunger actually shot then reappeared and shot again over and over. Alas that one was lost.
If the WS 221 is a chopped down version of the WS 1020 with seax blade profile... what if the big chunk were in fact a 1311 or 1111 chopped down with the seax profile tip? Basically the same as what Busse did with the Forsaken Battle Mistress to make their recent Seax... can you confirm this DAN???
Actually that blade style is supposed to be a great “fighting” blade. Unlike a conventional blade, the Seax won’t slide out of the cut but slice all the way to the tip. So says “the experts”.

This was my understanding, that it was meant purely for fighting. Your description makes a lot of sense, I know blades that have a curve or belly can definitely do this. How much of a difference it makes may be semantics, but it's a nice idea.
JUST a guess on my part, but it could make up to an inch deeper slicing cut over a conventional type blade. In THINK Michael Janice (?) designed the Yojimbo as a Seax type blade for that reason.
You guys bring up alot of good facts and points for. I really think its just a personal opinion on my part, my comment was mostly sarcasm and always fun to spark up the topic with some debate, except i totally agree with you all haha. I like them on smaller kitchen knives .. but im a clipped point bowie guy.. curves the wrong way on a big seax for my tastes lol.
He made a western movie and was actually pretty good in it, starring along with Harvey Kietel. I believe he took the name Bowie due to his admiration for James Bowie. I'm just not familiar with his band.
Mr. Dan, I must say it is a torture to keep us waiting for so long without even a small preview off what's coming! At least some specs? Over 10'' blade? Over .30 thickness?
Man this post aged well. A year later I could have bought it but wasnt around. Just cant keep checking a site for a year to see what the thing they wont tell us is. Oh well, life goes on
They go to my spam unfortunately and I cant figure out how to change it. Oh well, once in a blue moon I catch it just right amd the rest of the time I spend my money on other knives lol
