It's basically just a re-structuring; they're not going to disappear. It will be good for them to leave New York and move to Texas, possibly even they're national headquarters in Virginia. wink

I read a couple of articles about it today. I'm betting it has a lot to do with the LawSuits in New York.

I was planning on doing a lifetime membership due to the current political situation but I'm going to have to wait until this shakes out. It's one of the organizations that I grudgingly support. They have a serious leadership problem across the board.

I agree with you M/B. The "big boys" like LaPierre probably spend more on their clothing than I make all year. Forget the New York lawsuits, move to Texas, and start doing more good for 2A advocates and devotees.

They still plan on keeping their HQ in Virginia. Seems odd with the current state of Affairs in Virginia.

Yeah to get away from the toxic climate in NY. Heck yeah, move the whole thing to a 2A friendly state. And yes, spend the money on things that are needed for US, the people the say they are trying to help. Seems as if they are (some of them) are milking the cash cow for all “milk money” the can get.

Big business and greed.

Yup, it’s not an organization anymore, it’s a business pure and simple.

Re: NRA Files Bankrupt! - 03/23/21 02:15 AM

I have been an NRA member for close to 50 years, so I understand the frustration with the NRA, especially if there is any truth to the rumors about NRA money being misspent. Considering the source of the rumors, the NY Attorney General, is no friend of gun owners, I do not consider her a credible source of information. Her, Bloomberg and all of their anti-gun buddies would love nothing more than to see NRA members quit supporting the organization. Benjamin Franklin said at the time of the signing of the Declaration of Independence: "We must all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately." – it still applies today. If the 2nd Amendment falls, so will all of the others – look at what is already being done to limit free speech in the last several years.

So I do still support the NRA, but there is another pro-gun organization I also support: Gun Owners of America (GOA) – https://gunowners.org/
GOA sends alerts to notify members of pending legislation, so you can send the appropriate legislators a pre-written letter to oppose/support the bill (sometimes it is favorable legislation).

Another group I recently joined is Ohio Gun Owners (OGO) - https://www.ohiogunowners.org/
They monitor legislation at both the Ohio state and federal levels.

With the current control of both houses of Congress and the White House, gun rights face an unprecedented assault. Recently a bill was introduced in the US Senate to:
- ban over 200 semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and pistols;
- ban all magazines that hold over 10 rounds of ammunition;
- mandate a federal permit to own pre-ban semi-autos (once a permit is required, that also means they can just as easily revoke the permit and seize your gun);
- and more.
Talk with some of our friends in other countries, like Australia for example, that have lost many of their gun rights; it will happen in the US too if we do nothing to stop it! Remember, hang together or hang separately!

gk, I also am once again an NRA member. I do not believe everything I hear about them. But some of it must be true. Nevertheless, I am still a member. I plan on checking into the GOA organization and might well join them also.

I agree with Ben. I started saying it before I ever retired from the Air Force. And said it even louder the longer I was working in the Law Enforcement career field.

Be Bold, be Outspoken. Be not afraid to “fight back” against the oppression that is being forced upon us by those who foolishly work toward turning this Great Nation into just another Socialist regime.

I believe in my tag line.

I suspect that most of us here feel the same way. wink

Even if the claims are true, I can’t condemn the entire organization for the actions of a few.

True Ray. They probably need to police themselves.

That's probably true. I was a relatively new NRA member in 1977 when there was an internal revolt – here are a couple articles about that:

Maybe it is time for another NRA shake-up. smile
