Well Andy, you seem to be a cornucopia of infomation....what days will the Holy Triad be there?

Re: Knob Creek? SYK? - 09/14/06 06:45 AM

All of them I think. They're usually there all 3 days as far as I know. But plan to be there early if you want first choice. They go quick!

Andy is a great source of good information, and I appreciate his postings. Now, if we could only get him to switch from cardboard to leather for his sheaths......
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: Knob Creek? SYK? - 09/15/06 12:43 AM

It would be alot easier to repair a cardboard sheath than a leather one.....and besides, I am a cheap@$$, 60bucks for a leather sheath when the knife cost me 90.....not very good economics. DO IT ANDY...open a sweatshop of 3rd world kids and mass produce these thnigs...outsource to india or somewhere like that!

Jason - I hope you make it to Knob Creek, it should be a good time!

Re: Knob Creek? SYK? - 09/15/06 01:07 AM

I proposed the idea to my wife that we visit her family in Millington, Ten......she was onto my ruse immediately!!! She knew knives and guns were somewhere nearby! But the good new is she is actually considering it......I planted the seed of hope and now I will water it and watch it grow until Oct, then it is HARVEST TIME!!!!!!! Now I have to make some clandestine cash to be spent!

Yeah, it's easy to patch when it eventually gets worn, and it's a great source of emergency duct tape in the woods. Plus, under all those layers of duct tape you have water resistant cardboard for an emergency tinder source.

I've still not tried anything with leather yet. I have a Shaker sheath made from a recycled black leather belt in the works. I have the pieces all cut out, I just have to learn how to stitch and I'll get it together. Of course you guys will see it when its done.

When/if I successfully make a decent leather one, I might try making some out of leather to sell. I've been watching for cheap sources of leather to recycle at Goodwill etc. to keep the production price down.

Right now I have a couple thick, wide, black leather belts that I was going to eventually make Shaker sheaths out of, and one large weighlifting belt that I got for $3.

Bein' a cheap @$$ is what got me started making them. My first knife was my RatMastiff, but I couldn't afford $60+ for a leather sheath. And even if I could, it would take months to receive after ordering, and I'd have nothing to carry it in in the mean time. So I got creative.

Ya know, I was thinkin' the same thing recently...anybody know the number of a good sweatshop?

I don't know about a sweatshop, but my apt without AC is a sweatbox!!! It is so damned hot in here I am seeing a vision of my spirit guide "Bitting Dog" he is telling me I should go on a might quest to knob creek and that I should call the repairman!!!

Re: Knob Creek? SYK? - 09/15/06 10:43 PM

GF - You had better not mess with the spirits - go to the Knob Creek shoot.

Re: Knob Creek? SYK? - 09/16/06 06:40 AM

It would be more like the Knob creek knife buy...4 years in the Military, 1 tour to Iraq...automatic machine guns don't really get me as excited as they used to....but a chance for a new knife....BROTHER COUNT ME IN!!!!!
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: Knob Creek? SYK? - 09/16/06 09:51 AM

I guess you're right - they wouldn't let you buy a machine-gun and take it home, but you COULD buy a new knife.

However, I carried an M-60 in VietNam - Rock & Roll brother!

The Knob Creek shoot sure would be fun!

Re: Knob Creek? SYK? - 09/17/06 12:17 AM

Yeah, it would be great to get my hands on a M2 again!though this time the targets aren't moving!
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: Knob Creek? SYK? - 09/17/06 06:21 AM

The M2 is truly an awesome weapon, and great fun to shoot. I only got to shoot one a few times when we pulled bridge security duty, but I really enjoyed it. I hope that everyone who goes to Knob Creek gets to try it if they are interested.

Re: Knob Creek? SYK? - 09/18/06 01:23 AM

It feels better when good ole uncle Sam pays 1.50-3.00 a round rather than you!.....Ahhh the good old days when we would tear through 3000 rounds of the stuff a night!

Re: Knob Creek? SYK? - 09/18/06 03:03 AM

All that "practice" should have produced some pretty good Gunners! And yes, Uncle Sam can better afford the ammo.

Incidentally, thanks for your service as well!

Re: Knob Creek? SYK? - 09/19/06 11:04 PM

Well GF - that's one more knife than you had before! I traded my Howler for one of my Camp Tramps, and practiced my sharpening on the dull edge which prompted the previous owner's selling. An excellent chopper for a 7" bladed knife, but certainly not the same as one of my BattleRats.
