When you see the two together, I feel the dog is much more stylish then the rat. Look at those curves!

Agreed, I'd take the dog over the rat anyday.

Right. But the question is, are they virtually interchangeable? If they are, why would Dan bother to build a Scrap Yard version of the Camp Tramp (aka the Scrapper 7) in the foreseeable future? ...

Well the Recurev is nice but may not be as field-sharpening-friendly, it lookd good the Hook and Guard also have the thump-ramp and I assume the Scrapper 7 would not, seeing that the S6 dosen't. so to give my two cent answer to the question: Is the Yard Guard the Scrapper 7? Over all sure why not but there a few differences. Even though the Camp Tramp is a fine blade there some dogs out there that just want a SR-77 one.

I am one of those who wanted the Camp Tramp, but in all honesty, since I have a Yard Guard I feel I have that size well covered.

Vic - I have three Camp Tramps and a Yard Guard, and I prefer the Yard Guard! I think it's a GREAT knife!!! Tom

I really wanted a Camp Tramp, Tom. I bought the Yard Guard as a substitute. Now I feel like I did alright. I like the YG. I still prefer the S6, though.

No argument about the S6 being a great knife - I have a CG and LE! Tom

Bruce - don't get me wrong, I think the Tramp is a great knife, which is why I have three of them. I just prefer the style of the Guard! Tom

I could see Dan making a S7 but it will probably be a long time. I do think he will make one eventually as the Camp Tramp is so darn popular.

I never picked up a Camp Tramp, I have a couple 7" blades that work for me. I need to add a big chopper and some more edc blades to my stable.

Re: Is the Yard Guard the Scrapper 7 ??? - 05/20/07 12:50 AM

A S7 with the thumb ramp would be better than a S6 style S7.. My reasons for passing on the YG was 1/ Badger attack (wife knew about it..) 2/ Recurve not being Lansky friendly- and that is the only way I can sharpen worth a [censored]!

Great knife though if you scored! Someone really needs to butcher a Jeep for comparison reasons!!

I love the Hook. I got a diamond rod for field sharpening that is going in the sheath pocket - should be good to go! If I have my choice though, I'll always be taking the DF and DM combo - but if I could only have one, the Hook would go.

A SS4 with a S6 or DF will always get the job done.. (That's my theory anyway!)

Ahhhh INFI...

DM and DF make a good combo well shoot the hook and guard make a good combo too but the DM and the DF cover big and med. with an SS4 thrown in you have a great combo!

Oh the horror. Them there is fightin' words Paul. I think it would be much more appropriate to butcher up a Porsche or some other non-functional vehicle.

I think that statement comes from the infamous story of two guys who rolled their jeep and used a Camp Tramp to escape the knife was abussed beyond normal reason and stood up to the chalenge well.

here is the original link to the story.

HAHA, . There have been a couple of Jeeps I wish I could have chopped arart broken down blocking the trail so no one could get by. Land Rovers are truley awesome vehicles. I have a great deal of respect for them on the trail. A nice OME lift on a Range Rovers, I will take that anyday.

Most of the Hummers I we see out here are H2's with blinged out rims, side step bars (aka rock catchers) and chrome everything. Really not meant for trail use, even through their owners thing they are. I do have a couple of buddies with H1's though and they do pretty well on the trail, but they are really too wide to be the ultimate vehicle.

Paul you get a chance to do any 4x4 driving in the UK?

Jeeps, I've done a couple of off road driving days over here.. but that's about it. I'm thinking of buying a 4X4 but our government is thinking of putting punitive road tax (our equivalent of your licence plate tags I think..) on them due to global warming (great excuse to screw Joe Public) so for now it's watch and wait! Imagine having to pay $2000 a year just to be allowed to take a Jeep on your roads!! Nightmare..

Actually just curious- has the Jeep Patriot been released stateside yet? It's due here.. I know all new Jeeps have ESP these days due to Merc's previous ownership. Is it a real 4X4 or just a wannabe like the Jeep Compass (or whatever it's called over there!). Oh by the way fuel here is $2 per litre! So about $10 per gallon.. How's is the mpg?

Thread hijack apology as well.

I have not seen any Patriots on the local trails so I am not too sure. I imagine it's closer to a Compass though. The IFS that Jeep is using now is not something I am a fan of. Oh well. $10 a gallon would definitley change my attitude towards a vehicle, I pay $3 and my Jeep gets about 14mpg so it's pretty horrible. I do have 31" tires though. If I were looking for a 4WD vehicle at $10 per gallon of gass, I would look at a Toyota Tacoma, they are an awesome vehicle and ore than capable. I remember gas being quite expensive when I was in Europe and the UK many years ago.

No doubt about it. The Yard Guard is sexier than the Camp Tramp. It's a little beefier as well (0.280" thick for the Guard vs 0.250" thick for the CT). But the question is, are they virtually interchangeable? If they are, why would Dan bother to build a Scrap Yard version of the Camp Tramp (aka the Scrapper 7) in the foreseeable future? Or to ask the question another way, should those who were eager to buy a Scrapper 7 have bought a Yard Guard instead?

Some might not like the recurved blade, hard to sharpen and maintain, apparently.

Oh, there’s plenty left. That one test was all I did. Remember, the Crash Axe is SR77, so that test WAS a bit of a comparison of what that steel can do to a car. I had thought about repeating the test with my Dumpster Mutt, but I dunno…I really don’t want the finish on it all messed up. And, if it were to somehow get damaged, the warranty value shop credit replacement couldn’t replace it since they’re now selling for almost double the original price.
