Great price.

Make sure you do a bend test on the blade.

I know that SR-77 is tough but can it bend like Infi or SR-101?

LE pricing would be nice also.

It would be interesting to see how SR77 does in the famous Busse bend test, but I cannot imagine it would do as well as INFI or even SR101. Won't stop me from buying the new bowie either way.

Re: "Dog Father" Specs and Pricing - 01/08/07 11:23 PM

Even if the Dog Father breaks, I would like to see how much of a cheater bar is required to do it.

It would be awesome if it does as well as the Ratweiler but if it breaks with a force 5x higher than it will see in an emergency, I will still be impressed.

LE pricing would be nice also.

From the bend-tests i have seen on "regular" S7, the stuff bends like 57Rc rubber -- one blade i saw bent past the 180 degree mark and then back the other way past the 180 mark a few times before it basically "ripped" in two... I love S7... I wonder if anyone remembers what site showed this test -- it is a sword manufacturer who uses S7, i think it is called Angelsword or something?
What a great price. I too would be curious what the LE will cost...

As it's not INFI and could come back into production at a later date it won't sell out so fast; plus more could be made without Jerry jumping up and down, going purple in the face screaming!

I saw that sword test as well on SFI. Howard clark is famous for making kats with a bainite core(for flex) and martensite edge(for sharpness). I belive he uses S7.

My SS4 was sharp when it came. Not "hair popping sharp" but very accaptable and it did not take much time with the EZE LAP to get it as sharp as the thick stock and edge angle will allow. I found it helped to wear down the edge of the coating where it meets the edge.

My scrapper 6 wasn't that stellar in the sharpness department. I had to do some reprofiling and sharpening. Mt SS4 on the other hand came shaving sharp. Once I really begin to use the knife I'll break out some snad paper and the mouse pad and go to work on it.

Yes!! I knew someone would be able to find it... If you go to that link and click on videos, that's the ones i was thinking of. it actually bends farther than i remembered, in the neighborhood of 270 degrees -- a very respectable neighborhood, to say the least...

Re: "Dog Father" Specs and Pricing - 01/13/07 02:22 AM

It can work very well, but it really gets through paper quickly. I think someone suggested wetting the 'wet and dry' to slow the abrasion down. I haven't tried it yet but that S4 is nearby..

I use the wet/dry paper and I usually wet the stuff. It does slow the abrassion down, at least in my experience.

Yeah, I got tired of the cost, clogging, and how quick they wore out. So I switched to stone and ceramic. It's easy to clean a dirty stone with a scotch brite pad, and ceramic you can clean with a pencil eraser. I think stones are quicker too to sharpen with, because you can quickly clean them and they won’t get clogged like sandpaper. Clogs=less abrasion=longer sharpening time. And stones change the edge from convex to V, but I haven’t had any problems with a V edge, and my V edges are thinner than the factory convex edges.

What pic? I loaded this page in Netscape and IE and I don’t see a pic.

I ended up not drinking anything on New Years. I was busy posting here and the Swamp, and didn’t notice the time until it was like 11:30. I bought a bottle of Spumonte (sp?) champagne, but didn’t open it. I’ll just save it for some other occasion. I do have a “couple” bottles in my alcohol collection already.

My hunch is that the Dog Father test will be published on Youtube.com along with tests of Busse and Swamp Rat knives.

We shall see . . .

I believe when Jerry said on BF that the test would include hogs, those rhodent fellows, and of course Scrapyard knives.

seein as a full fledged FBM is $387 and scrap yard is supposed to be the value performance brand, any higher a tag would be too much and send customers to busse. that's more of an infi collector's price than a user's price. and infi's worth more with busse's logo on it. maybe if you put the "LE" on the end of the model name.

Let's hope the two weeks were not meant in the Busse sense.

He also said he would post the status as it got sooner.

We are on day 8, so hopefully it will be in the next 6 days.

He has to post a performance video and LE pricing also.

Magnum22 if Dan would do an INFI DF for around $300 (or hopefully a little less) I'd Paypal Patti RIGHT NOW!!! (I'd probably bag a pair). Anyone here wouldn't go $300 for that? Pity it'll probably never happen.

As for the name on the blade- Yard says Busse to me as much as Busse does. Busse is quality, durability and good 'material'. I just figure the yard is probably a lot friendlier and a LOT more 'Pack'!

Bld522 you talk a lot of sense! It's just the DF is just such a great concept.. we all just can't wait!

I tried to take the level headed high ground long ago, but was bamboozeled when the Scrapper 4 hit and not the Dog Father...so now I am playing catch up for the patience I forcefully exerted.

Don't use logic and reason with me.....

So rather than logic and reason you'd rather have DF and beer? Sounds fair to me!

I appreciate your impatience, believe me. But I still say that an ounce of prevention (creating enough inventory to begin with) is worth a pound of cure (playing catch up with a bunch of disgruntled customers). Of course, this isn't a democracy. Dan will do what Dan wants to do when Dan wants to do it. But I, for one, don't want to feel pressured to be at the computer when the floodgates open to stand a chance of getting a DF nor do I want to wait 8 weeks to receive my order after I place it.

I say we give Dan time to do this right.

You should all know that I am working every possible hour to have enough inventory, insure performance and keep the price low. Its killing me not to have these monsters in your hands

Dan we know you are working hard at it. Please be patient with us as we are both your customers and fiercely proud supporters of your knives. I do not think anyone would disagree with me. The fact you make the best at the price you set gives us the feeling you really are doing it for us not just for business. I know I feel I am getting a good deal with your knives. I also know when I have been poked in the eye.

I will be patient and try to make some money while you make knives. Maybe I can trade you some money for a knife real soon!!!

Dunno if this was answered.. I know it was asked a while back.

Is the Dog Father Through-Tempered? (same hardness throughout)
or Differentially-Tempered? (different edge hardness)

Thanks,
