SY version of the Sus Scrofa? - 12/24/07 07:55 PM

Anybody else that would like to see it happen?

Sure would make a good hunting knife for all but the skinning chores.

If we were going to see an odd blade style come down the pipe, I would rather see a wharny with a straight blade edge.

Why both of course.
And yes, 3/16" or less would make sense to me.

i gotta say that i never liked the sus scrofa.

to me it looks like it was made for slashing and i dont plan on slashing anyone..
....at least not this weekend, its christmas for christs sake.

its not what i look for in a hunting knife and i question its abilities for camping chores.

i always considered it a fighter and i have no use for fighters, although the sus scrofa does look cool

Re: SY version of the Sus Scrofa? - 12/24/07 09:28 PM

I'm still waiting to hear what Coldone thinks of his - I think it looks like my wife's kitchen knife.

When the SS was released, someone (I think Jerry) was saying that helicopter and rescue crews liked them for cutting people out of seatbelts (?) or something like that, since it doesn't have a sharp point.

I don't think I'd ever use one.

BUT

BRING IT ON, DAN! I'd surely GET ONE ANYWAYS!!

I personally could think of a 100 other designs I would rather see made first, but thats just my opinion.

well, yeah, of course. but IF we HAVE to have one, I think something like what bruce chopped would be the closest I'd come, too. but for anything with that blade shape I'm more likely to snag something stainless, since it'd be something I'd plan on using around/in water, where SR-77 wouldn't be an ideal steel.

Re: SY version of the Sus Scrofa? - 12/25/07 12:18 AM

Of course there's no telling what we'll see next, that's part of the charm of this place.
Having said that, I'm betting a SY SC would be just different enough to be a real winner for us.

The whole reason I brought this up was that it seems to me SY knives follow the release of BCS patterns, and are at the same time slightly different. The SC was the latest from Busse Combat wasn't it? Kinda makes literal sense if one thinks of picking up and using the scraps from BCS design runs once they're done.

But I have no real clue if that's correct.

I like some wharncliffes and even have a beautiful Lambert Whar custom but I don't like the SUS. One advantage of that point style is it gives a lot of blade length for the size of the knife. A lot of but not all the saxon knives were that style.

The weird looking blade I would like to see is a scrapper Kukuri.

seeing how it appears they are trying to give these things away I hope Dan doesn't follow with a yard version.

Re: SY version of the Sus Scrofa? - 12/25/07 02:49 AM

i think knives around here are rare enough and if i'm only gonna get a few blades a year i'd like to get something i'm gonna use.

i have never been atracted to wharncliff type blades so this is just my thoughts.i realize that others have and i hope they get what they want.

the sus scrofa didnt seem to be a big hit at busse combat and i wonder if it will be here although we all no people will still buy them because its a new release and we want a complete collection.

it was mentioned that sy tends to follow busse releases with the whole "scrap" theory.i dont buy the scrap theory just like i dont buy the mil. over-run theory.what scraps would they use???...not INFI,not micarta.only thing i can think of is the res-c handles.i think its a marketing ploy but i dont have a problem with it.i dont think its wrong,i just dont buy it.and while i might regret saying this when im sober i also didnt buy the whole story about the bet between jerry and dan for that bottle.i could be dead wrong and im not trying to critasizing them just throwing it out their.one plus one always equals two but i may be doing the wrong math.

for what its worth i want some type of edc.i do elive that their is a decent chance for the sus scrofa though and with the dfle release it seems as if dan listens to what we want which is pretty cool.sorry for rambling

I totally "buy" the bet between Dan and Jerry... and I'm glad that Jerry showed us HUGE RESPECT by letting us Dogs in on the hunt!

I'm several sheets to the wind myself right now as well.

Merry Christmas guys.

Thankfully, we can edit our posts any time we want to around here.

why,did i sound mad???....if i did i didnt mean to because im not.i said i didnt have a problem with it and that i wasnt trying to critasize anyone.i love the yards knives and i think this is the best forum on the net with the best guys and i thank dan for that.

what i said was something that i've been thinking about lately and it seemed like the rite place to mention it.it was just my thoughts.i reread my post this morning and it still doesnt sound sour to me and it was never meant to.i say what i think, not what i think others want me to say if that makes any sense.just because i dont necessarily buy all the busse family marketing tactics doesnt mean i have a problem with it.i think they are absolute geniuses when it comes to business and i also think they make the absolute best knives in the history of mankind and i dont exaggerate when i say that.i also have deep respect for the way they treat their followers/customers,the way they stand behind their products and the fact that they seem to keep family first and business second.
hell,i love busse family knives so much i,ve spent $1,6oo since june and i only make $25,ooo so i'm obviously a player in the whole game.

not only did santa not leave me a brick he left me a dfle last week and a gamewarden not to mention a great night with family on christmas eve and a wonderful christmas morning opening up presents with my son.i hope you had the same.just trying to clear things up

merry christmas and happy new years too all

Northern1, let me break it down for you......

Quote
the sus scrofa didnt seem to be a big hit at busse combat and i wonder if it will be here although we all no people will still buy them because its a new release and we want a complete collection.
Not sure where you got your numbers but the SS got a lot of attention, its not the most poular Busse, but its not the worst.

So the "scrap theory" is all lies?
The military over runs are left overs from special orders by military units, whats so hard to believe about that? I've done work with several of these.
So its a marketing ploy, Neither Jerry or Dan need to lie to get knives sold, and thats where I have a problem with your attitude.
Quote
but i dont have a problem with it.i dont think its wrong,i just dont buy it.and while i might regret saying this when im sober i also didnt buy the whole story about the bet between jerry and dan for that bottle.i could be dead wrong and im not trying to critasizing them just throwing it out their.one plus one always equals two but i may be doing the wrong math.
So they lied about the bet too huh?

Now I hope you see where I have a problem.

Very true, diceman. And nice of you to drop by and pay us a visit, Dwayne. After your post on October 7th, I feared we might never hear from you again.

I tend to agree with Unsub that there's a lot of smoke and mirrors around here. But if you want Busse family knives, so what? For Jerry, selling knives isn't just a business . . . it's a form of recreation. The games Jerry plays for his own amusement are just part and parcel of what it takes to get our hands on his knives. Those who don't want to play along can either not buy his knives or buy them at inflated prices off the secondary market. That's just the way it is.

Quote
I'm glad that Jerry showed us HUGE RESPECT by letting us Dogs in on the hunt!
I, for one, was COMPLETELY blown away when Jerry changed his sales strategy on the MOD7. That was totally out of character for him. Obviously, someone influential got to him . . .

Hey bld, I'm not gone, just sitting in the shadows. I've been in the Busse game for a very long time and I tend to get burned out quick dealing with those who disrespect Jerry and his work, this encompasses all his endeavors from Busse Combat to the Swamp and the Scrap Yard. I've met the man face to face at the time right before the Yard was born, got to talk a lot about it, I even know what it was to be named before it became the yard. I have a huge amount of respect for Jerry, especially after our 4 hour talk and getting thrown out of the Red Lobster an hour after closing time. His passion for knives equals my own with leather wich is close to what i have for his knives.

This kind of passion gets me in some hot water at times, read the "cranky old leatherbender" in my title on BF and Rat Chat. I just want the mutual respect between the Swamp and Busse Combat to be the same here as well, it all comes from the same place after all.
