Here it is, the Yard Hook. Scrap Yard's slowest selling model. I like it!

You can chop wood and open beer with it.

Glad your system is working again my friend.

Re: Orphan of the Scrap Yard - 01/18/08 08:33 PM

Mmmmm Beeeer! This weekend I'm going to bottle up a batch of Chocolate Cherry Wheat that I brew up a few weeks ago. And once I get that batch bottled i'm going to brew up a batch of IPA. And I'll be doing all this wearing my Ratweiler/Swamp warden in the Piggy back sheath I got a few minutes ago, pics to follow!

Re: Orphan of the Scrap Yard - 01/18/08 08:36 PM

Most people just aren't attracted to those recurved blades. Once I got one, I was surprised that I liked it as much as I do, although in my opinion the hook should have been a bit pointier and have had a slightly wider gap to act as a bottle opener from the factory. It's a simple mod that I think lots of people make, but the Yard Hook might have been at least as popular as the Yard Guard if it had been that way from the outset.

They still had them in stock until recently didn't they? I think it was MONTHS!

I have had a time with BellSouth, Dell, and Photobucket lately trying to figure out the picture upload thing. Today, Photobucket said that they had done all they could do to help me. They must have done something from their end, because it started working today. I thought I had lost my mind. I've been posting pics for over a year. I started drinking during the day. Maybe one day I'll figure out how to attach a picture to an email. Been trying to do that for years! I sure wasted a lot of time and money on this computer stuff.

Spending money on knives or computers is usually not a waste. Especially knives

Haven't had a Sam Adams in probably 5 years, need a reason to go back to Boston.

Is this thread related to the Yard, can't recall a knife in that pic.

Dan's always talking about throwing back scotch.....where do you think the new knife designs come from? So even if there wasn't a knife in the picture, it's still related

What email provider do you use? Maybe one of us would be able to help you if we’re familiar with it. It’s as easy or easier than using photobucket. I use Gmail myself. I’ve had dozens of email accounts, and it’s really fast, has Google search built in for the message search, and no graphic ads, only text. And it’s free! Photobucket even has where you can send an email with attachments to an address, and the pics will go to your photobucket account. When I’m at home, I do that from my cell phone to upload the pics, as my cell phone signal is faster than my dialup, and that way I can still use the net on the computer while the pics upload from my phone.

Assuming that you're not joking and from your "Reged:" date, The Yard Keeper and Yard Guard releases may have been before you found the Yard. See the Main Site's Knives Page for details.

Re: Orphan of the Scrap Yard - 01/18/08 10:28 PM

He was joking or just fixated on the sam adams.

The Hook is an awesome knife. I like it a lot more than the original DFCG. Recurves are awesome because they put the weight of the knife where you need it so a short 7 inch knife can chop like a 9 incher and it puts the edge at exactly the right angle for cutting. They are only harder to sharpen if you use a bench stone.

For some reason they are not popular with Scrapper fans but the nearly identical looking Emerson waved Commander is Emersons most popular model.

You might have to click on this photo to see it big enough. Quite the similarities
for a folder. I bet you can figure out how Emerson came up with the wave now?

Re: Orphan of the Scrap Yard - 01/18/08 10:36 PM

The Yard Hook was my first SYCO blade. I liked it too, but at the time the sheath options just didn't suit me, so instead of hanging on to it I sold it.

But it did lead me here, so in a lot of ways it'll be one of the best knives I ever bought.

I do wish someone would make a recurve that size that has an edge right up to the hilt. That'd be a first class ripper, seems to me that's the idea anyway - stick 'em and open 'em up.

And no, I don't mean beer bottles. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Nice pic. Can you post a detail of the mod for opening the bottles. I have yet to make that change to mine. I also like it as a second attachment point if I had to fashion a spear out of it.

Re: Orphan of the Scrap Yard - 01/18/08 11:56 PM

I no longer have those pics. All I did was grind the hook sharp from the inside so that the forward edge of the hook was sharp enough to get a grip on the crown cap. Really low tech and simple to do. Here is a fair pic of the hook or blade catch (bottle opener).

I use hotmail. I know it's easy, just click attachments and browse and then "attach" . Trouble is, mine only come out on rare occasions! Most of the time when people get them there is nothing there.

Hmmm…have you ever tried it with another email server? I have hotmail too, and Yahoo mail, and a bunch of others, but I think Gmail is best. You should check it out, maybe you’d have better luck. I never liked hotmail, because it was always slow to load, especially on dialup.

After you click browse, and choose the pic, after it’s done loading, it should say:

“To send multiple files, use Browse and Add more files. When you're done, click Attach.”

If it’s only one file you’re sending, click attach, then it should go back to the message, and under the subject it should say “Attachments:” with a little pic of a paperclip, and the filename of the file, with a link to the right that says “remove” for if you want to remove it. Then you hit send, and it should work.

If you’re doing all that already, then I can’t think of anything else to try.

Vic I couldn't agree more! It is a sweet chopper, fighter, slicer and even makes a hell of a sandwich knife. Althouhg due to the thickness of The Hook it isn't the best on tomatoes!

It can however take a severe beating and not even bruise!

Peace.

The Hook is also the only Scrapper that sells for at or even occasionally below
retail. It is always the one I suggest when people come looking for a S6 or DFCG.
It helps that Eric made me the perfect sheath for mine.

The Hook rocks - I love mine, although I haven't even used it yet! It does sit in my "large BOB" though - I know I can depend on it if the "poop" ever hits the fan...

Are you sure you are attaching the actual file and not a shortcut(alias) to the file? That would explain why it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't.

I found a Yard Guard on the secondary market for a reasonable price before I saw a Yard Hook, so I ordered it. I don't even have my first Scrap Yard delivered (YKCG), and I already have another one on order.

Re: Orphan of the Scrap Yard - 01/22/08 08:05 AM

They are still a great deal on the secondary market. Why pay twice as much for a Camp tramp when you can have the weight advantage of a recurve for chopping as well?
