Scrapper pants - 09/15/06 07:57 PM

Well... got my Scrapper 6 and now thinking about how best to carry it... I know all the usual suspects for custom sheaths... what are you guys thinking?!

I will probably keep this one in my car for emergency use and around for the occasional camping trip.

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/15/06 08:07 PM

Nothing against fine leather, but to spend 60+ on leather for 90 dollar knife....just don't make much sense to me.....If its going to be a truck/camp knife, I would go for one of those nylon with a front pouch to stick a few extra goodies in there.

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/15/06 08:22 PM

I wouldn't mind a kydex rig for IWB carry, for when i want to pack some extra-heavy artillery...

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/15/06 08:48 PM

Ditto, I'm hoping that someone will make an affordable leather sheath for these. I'm still trying to convince myslef that I need a $60 sheath for a $90 knife. That's why I bought the nylon, for now...

P.S. My S6 arrived yesterday

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/15/06 09:34 PM

GregB - Congratulations to you, me, and everyone else who received their Scrapper yesterday. It is a really nice knife, and deserves a decent sheath. I think the cordura/kydex sheath is fine, but should be INCLUDED in the price - after all, we aren't paying WalMart prices for WalMart knives. Anyway, I may try to make one from some scrap leather, and ask my wife's co-worker, who has the tools and machines for sewing saddle leather, to make one also. Either way, I like leather sheaths for my knives whenever possible. Tom

spec ops sheath maybe ?
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/15/06 11:44 PM

Spec ops is a great company! I don't even own one of their sheaths, but I bought one from a gentleman at a discounted price because it was missing the kydex insert...I contacted Spec ops and in 3 days it was here...no charge whatsoever!..I don't even have the sheath yet!

it's almost like we're paying walmart prices for Busse knives... SYKCO is even more Swamp Rat-like than Swamp Rat.... But seriously, the Sheat i got from SYK to go with my S6LE is MUCH nicer than the one that came from Blade -- the liner is better, it's MOLLE compatable, i could go on but its a great sheath... even the cordura is a better quality than the other nylon rigs i have... A really good deal for $17 or whatever it was.

not to say i wouldn't rather have a leather one if it was offered... or a Buy Brown kydex... more choices would be a plus...

I would say short for the scrapper 6

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/18/06 02:43 AM

I would say short as well...Might wanna buy a couple large ones for the scrappy 7" and 9...
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/18/06 04:08 AM

The large only holds 8" blades...I would say to use one of our fine custom leather workers!

I have to get the Knife first.....but we discussed the sheath already!
Posted By: tyuio

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/19/06 04:03 AM

Well, my thinking in the way of sheath is, knives are carried more than used so i'd like mine in a nice fitting rig that rides where and how it's supposed to. I'd rather not have a cheapo sheath dangling or swinging around or allowing the knife to get lost or move around too much. It's like buying a fancy rifle and trying to transport or store it in a cheapo on sale junk gun case. I for one don't see a problem with $40-50 bucks spent on a sheath for a $90 knife. Thats whats great about america, you can make *most* of your own decisions....at least for now...

tyuio - to each his own ! Some folks drive a Cadillac while others drive a Chevrolet. One is certainly prettier and nicer than the other, but both serve the same purpose only in slightly different ways. I have one leather sheath for a Howling Fat and I love it....but I wouldn't have paid for it, had it not come with the knife! I really like the look of leather...it brings a certain respect to the knife and the wielder....however, nylon is cheap ...no worries if it gets scratched and all the cool little pockets that can hold goodies!

I am looking forward to seeing what those bad boys look like.
I have a spec ops sheath that was lying about. The scrapper fits, but a quarter inch or so sticks out of the top. Any comments or suggestions?
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/19/06 06:17 AM

Maybe try to heat and mold the kydex to fit a bit more snuggly?
Posted By: rooikat

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/19/06 06:26 AM

I was thinking of that. However, I do believe that the bottom 'guard' is too long to fit into the sheath.
Posted By: rooikat

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/19/06 06:27 AM

Having no self control, I will end up trying to heat it up a bit and stretching it, probably before the night is through.

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/19/06 08:11 AM

it is the short sheath.
the actual length is perfect; it is the bottom 'guard' that causes it to stick out.

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/21/06 06:13 AM

Definitly have to mold the kydex for the RW.....
Posted By: rooikat

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/21/06 06:23 AM

The smaller sheath is almost a perfect fit.
The only problem, or concern, is that a quarter inch or so of the blade sticks out, due to thew design of the scrapper.
The only way i can see to remedy it, would be to cut a slit in the kydex liner, that would allow the blade to ride further down.
Has any one else tried the spec ops sheath yet?
The larger spec ops sheath has the same problem, but is also way too big for the blade, imo.
I am sure that some wouldn't care, but I am a perfectionist. I feel a sheath should fit, not sort of maybe fit.
those of you who have ratweilers, how do those fit in the spec ops sheaths? They look like they might have a similar problem. i do not have one, so I do not know.

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/25/06 08:00 AM

I bet. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> I usually grab my BR over my RM, and I'll probably end up grabbing my Scrapper over my M6. Res-C is much more comfortable.

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/25/06 08:02 AM

Speakin' of pennies...I have a big 5 gallon plastic water bottle with a bunch of pennies in it...wonder how much is in there. (It's not full, just a couple inches deep.) I might have 'ta cash in my change jars. I generally like to keep them around, cause that's an emergency fund when you're REALLY broke and need some $ and every penny counts!

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/25/06 01:25 PM

It adds up quick! We had a few copper bowls around for our change. When I took them to the bank we had over $200.00

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/25/06 04:26 PM

If you have a 5 gallon jug a "few" inches deep and there is any silver coins in there...you will have you scrapper and a leather sheath for it!

There it is, Andy!

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/26/06 05:31 AM

I am really liking the resoprene handle as well...Micarta looks better, but I am digging the softer handle!!!
Posted By: rooikat

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/26/06 07:35 AM

I was converting to a micarta lover, but have reverted back to the resoprene. It really is very comfortable, and, in my opinion, does not look bad with the satin finished blades that I have acquired. The contrast is pretty cool- half work, half dress.

Nope, it's all pennies. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> I keep my "silver" seperate, and there's not much of it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I'm with you Roo! I love the Resiprene-C, as it feels great in the hand and looks good also. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Andy - keep working on it! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/26/06 05:18 PM

Oddly enough, while the puppies have attacked most things in the house as being good to chew, so far the scrapper has been ignored.
Could it be respect for a fellow canine? Or the fact that the scrapper's tooth is significantly bigger then the pup's?
Posted By: cgeyer

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/26/06 05:47 PM

I think it depends on the texture of the micarta. The res-c does add a nice level of shock absorption, tho--

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/26/06 06:14 PM

Roo - I'm kind of surprised that your pups have left the Scrapper alone. When my pups were in the garage, they chewed on EVERYTHING, including the pull-handle of my push mower and the electric clutch knob of my riding mower. They STILL love to chew on my leather work gloves if I leave them in reach. I won't leave my Scrapper where they can get to it!

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/26/06 11:21 PM

My last puppy ate my flipflopps,2 pieces of 8oz leather I had cut for tooling practice and a sheath I had done for a Ranger RD9 that was about 80% complete!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Re: Scrapper pants - 09/27/06 08:32 AM

When I first got my $300 .MP3 player I put it on my bed while it was charging for the first time. My Weimer Sallie was a puppy and I came in my room and she had it in her mouth chewing it. She put some scratches and dents in the aluminum case, but at least she missed the glass screen. She destroyed the leather case it was in too.

I wonder if we should start a support group, we could call it "BCAA", Bowie & Chopper Aholic Association.

In reality, I think your life has come to the right point and is on the right track.

Dogs forever!!!

Yea I would like to see the Bowie as the next release...BUT a small EDC wouldnt hurt my feelings at all

Are we gonna have choppers or EDc's?

Re: Scrapper pants - 10/01/06 06:48 AM

The distorted voting is running about 2 to 1 in favor of the Infi mudder. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Of course, we all know that the numbers are bogus due to Jerry's HOG kids and their trickery! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I hope that Dan does the right thing and releases the BOWIE next! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Yep GF seems quite focused! Bowie here please... (or a Scrapper 9!)
Posted By: Leatherface

Re: Scrapper pants - 10/01/06 08:39 PM

Bowie for me

OR

A scrapper 9 would be sweet as well!
Posted By: Paul the Brit'

Re: Scrapper pants - 10/01/06 08:44 PM

Thanks for that Leatherface, I'll take either happily; but I bet the Scrapper 9 would do a baton less damage during batoning (due to having no false edge, saving effort). Just a thought...
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: Scrapper pants - 10/01/06 11:45 PM

You fellows are certainly right in that either knife will be sweet. However, since Dan said the BOWIE was one of the choices, I think he should proceed with the BOWIE!!!

Re: Scrapper pants - 10/02/06 12:57 PM

Paul you are prolly right about that...I havent bought a gun in over 12 months...I just realized this...Kinda sad dont ya think? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: Scrapper pants - 10/02/06 01:44 PM

I might have missed something L/F, but I think Paul is referring to a Scrapper with a 9" blade, as opposed to something in 9mm. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Re: Scrapper pants - 10/03/06 12:14 AM

Yep I meant the big Scrapper but LF you go buy a nice shiny 9mm and feel better! Oh to live in a society where shooting was a sport it was possible to do..
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: Scrapper pants - 10/03/06 12:22 AM

Now if it were a .45, then I would get excited!...or a Bowie!
Posted By: Paul the Brit'

Re: Scrapper pants - 10/03/06 12:25 AM

Make that a dull black Glock 10mm or a bowie and I'm right with you!
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: Scrapper pants - 10/03/06 12:27 AM

As much as I love that little hand cannon...target shooting is just too expensive....10mm rounds break the bank if you want to plink off 200 of them.
Posted By: Paul the Brit'

Re: Scrapper pants - 10/03/06 12:31 AM

I agree, if shooting was a realistic option over here I'd use 'Warsaw Pact' or Nato ammo to save loads of money... I'd save a 10mm for special occasions and shoot a CZ85 9mm and Mini 14 for preference. Shame you can't shoot over here...

Re: Scrapper pants - 10/03/06 12:36 AM

Yep, tats aren't illegal but knowing our government there may be plans... The wife has previously mentioned tattoos in relation to me sleeping in the spare room! So I'll have to settle for a dog tee-shirt instead.

I AM thinking of getting a 9mm...kel-tec just released a pocket 9mm called the PF-9...I WANT ONE!!

I have been planning on getting me a Glock 20 or 29 10mm...Gonna have to learn to reload it to shoot it, but it shouldnt be that big a deal..

DOG shirts?? I would buy one..

I NEED a bounce around 1911...hmm a large Scrappy chopper and a 1911 45..AHH sweet dreams are made of this!!!

Truth be told, Glocks just dont do it for me...I have owned 4 of them over the years and they just didnt have that "feel" that I am looking for...The XD-series on the other hand, totally SINGS TO ME!!

XD just doesnt offer a 10mm...Glock does so I am going with the Glock...Feel me?

I'm with you Leatherdogg on the Springfields -- they do make a .45, though, which loaded with some +p golden sabers or something, is no pea shooter... and now they finally make a .45 sub-compact XD... if only i can stop spending all my $ on knives, i will have one...

Strange -- my HK USP Tactical .45 still has that "magical" feeling -- you aren't going to believe me, but i know exactly what you are talking about. I will never forget the first time i saw the business end of an HK USP... it was like blue stars shot off in my head and i knew i had to have one, no matter how much it cost. I didn't even like "plastic guns" back then, but the recoil reduction thing you feel when you shoot it, and the way the parts fit together like a custom match pistol, it's the baddest pistol i have ever seen, although the Springfield XD seems to have captured some of that rediculously fabulous design... duhh, babbling... sorry... guns, you know...

Re: Scrapper pants - 10/04/06 04:19 AM

Sr77,
I do know the feeling...

Leatherdog?? lol I like that!!

I didnt know that they had made a XD-45 compact...hmmm might have to look into that!!!

Still want to get that pocket 9mm though...I think it is time to retire my P-32..lol

Re: Scrapper pants - 10/04/06 02:02 PM

Gravel,
I have heard of those, but I havent gotten to handle one yet...A good "beater" 1911 would fit my needs pretty good...I already own 2 of them, but due to there value I tend not to carry them...

I already got mags etc....hmmm I might wanna look a bit harder after I get my 9mm!
