The View: Pics I'd like to share with the Yard - 02/24/08 07:39 AM

I went snooping in picture files and happen to come along some really cool picture. Not sure when it was taken, but I figure I'd share it anyways. It was taken in the morning. Just something cool people might like to see.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

Here is a little "island" poking out from the clouds.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

I think this happens quite often really early in morning. Around sunrise. I'll try to see if I can take some more in the future. The first time I saw this the only thing that running through my mind was, "Am I dreaming?"

I wish Dogfathers would be jumping out of those clouds and on to my deck. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

What about every single Busse Kin Knife jumping from the Clouds?

AKs, Battle Rats, FBMs... and then tiny little SMOG Wardens, YKLEs, DMs, and Meaners. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Old people running for their lives .... dodging tiny little Smog Wardens for the Heavens rocketing Earthward to impale all who dare to venture outside.!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

That has to be one of the funniest thing I have read in a while! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" />

It really struck my funny bone to picture what you said Sharp! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

Where the heck DO you live? Western Samoa? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

Or is that L.A. trying to peek out on a bad Summer day in the 70's? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Gads, I remember how bad California was before they passed the toughest emissions control act in the country there. It really save that whole state from a disaster. If you research that E.P.A. time in CA. they were literally fighting for their lives.

Now it's a Paradise!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I live in Portland OR.

It's not always like this. Frankly I don't think too many people in the neighborhood get up early enough to see it.

It rarely happens and only does in early at sunrise. Here is a pic of a good day.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

This was the same day as the first 2 pics. This is kinda scary. It looks like some fog is gonna eat the whole side of the mountain.

nice pix... the colors came out really nicely.

constructive criticism: level out your skyline when snapping to avoid that "tilted" look, particularly when the skyline is part of the point of the photo, like in the first two.

Thanks for the advice. I'll get some better pics next time the clouds settle down. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Portland is shore sum pretty country Sharp! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

I REALLY LOVE those sneaky cloud pictures. It shows juts how high up YOU are and how the low land is VERY deep low right in front of you. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

That temperature inversion must be a great occurrence when it happens! I think that if you get a bit further out and nibble the railing out of the photo and line that skyline just so you may have a prize winning shot! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Great Job Sharp! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

And by the way I love your humor! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

The next time I take some pictures, I'll get a good shot with the skyline untitled . Then go krop the railing out. Then I'll try to see if I can get a larger resolution for the pic. Which then = widescreen wallpaper. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Now if only the clouds would just layer the land... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" />

Well, I took the advice that you guys gave me.

It isn't of the clouds but of the sunset.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

I thought this was pretty cool. You can even see the texture of the clouds from the angle of the light from the sun. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Looks like Mordor is forging some SR-77.

This morning I was finally able to get some good pics of the sea. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

Ok... so it's not a sea... but it's an sea of clouds. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Looks like something is falling out of the sky. Could it be a new release from Busse kin that could withstand the impact of falling at several hundreds of feet and hour from a great height?? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Re: The View: Pics I'd like to share with the Yar - 03/28/08 01:43 AM

Today was a rather odd day. Oregon doesn't usually get any snow but this morning and afternoon it started raining, then hailing, then snowing, then this:

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

Half of Portland was in a big black cloud and the other was in sun. It was the weirdest thing to walk out on my deck and see a sunny day snow.

Here are some more shots of the cloud and clear sky.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

So which side are you gonna choose? The Dark Side?

I choose my deck. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

My house is decently sized. Not that big, though.

If I find another day that has some weird weather I'll make sure to get it.

Yeah, today was a weird day in Portland. Got to work and there was a small a flurry of snow. Then it was gray, until I looked out the window and all I saw was a solid sheet of white hail. It covered the ground in a blanket of white and stuck around for a few hours.

now it looks like syracuse,ny.

it can drop 30 degrees in an hour here and just like where you live it will be sunny and warm and then we'll have a blizzard within a half an hour.

last year we got 110 inches of snow in two days about 30min north of here.

that on pic of that cloud coming in from the left is crazy, the dark side one....
....we dont get clouds like that,we're too low.

yesterday got up to 50 degrees and then we got 4in of snow.

its funny to see people walking through bitter winds and blinding snow while wearing shorts.

Re: The View: Pics I'd like to share with the Yar - 06/07/08 06:04 AM

I few days back, I captured some rather funny surreal photos of yet another odd day in P-town.

It's another battle between dark and light.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

Though the rain cloud, look like something from a cartoon. It's got the classic mushroom style cloud with straight sides portraying rain fall. Weird stuff.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

Though it was still sunny.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

Pulled back view.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

Here's a comparison of the two climates.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com][Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

And the town a little more south facing.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

Close up of inside the dark rain cloud.

Wonder what it would like to be inside there.

Re: The View: Pics I'd like to share with the Yar - 06/07/08 07:19 AM

Nice pics Sharp. That's a classic picture of a storm system. If it was Texas there would be lightning though <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Looks like you live up off of Skyline or thereabouts? Great views. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I used to commute from Amberwood Circle in Lake Oswego, up 217, and west to Hillsboro. When the girls were little they went to Catlin Gable. Very pretty area.
Posted By: Sharp

Re: The View: Pics I'd like to share with the Yar - 06/07/08 07:28 AM

Yes, I do live up on Skyline and yes, there actually was lightning in the storm, something I forgot to mention. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Have you gone to the Skyline Restaurant?

I can see Catlin Gabel and St. Vincents from my house. It's a little bit more due west. The campus of both compounds are indeed beautiful.
Posted By: Kraz

Re: The View: Pics I'd like to share with the Yar - 06/07/08 08:21 AM

No, I haven't been to the Skyline Restaurant. Is the food good or a great view, or both?

On our rare dates out when the kids were young my wife and I would generally head downtown. After work I'd occasionally get to hit McMenamins with my friends. I frequented the roadhouse in Hillsboro more often than the McMenamins in Beaverton.
Posted By: Sharp

Re: The View: Pics I'd like to share with the Yar - 06/07/08 07:23 PM

The food is really good... speaking of which... I could go for one of their Half pound BBQ steak burgers with extra bacon and an oreo shake... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Unfortunately the view isn't totally that great, Though in some seats you can get I guess a pretty decent view. It's right on Cornell and Skyline intersection. It's a pretty old school restaurant, use to be one of those drive in burger shops. I think they still might run it like that, but most people go in and eat normally (if that can even be said).

McMenamins is also a really good restaurant. Good burgers, too.

But, alas, the cloud at the bottom aren't so high up to cover the all of the flat lands below.
