Wood Palette Destructions

Wood Palette Destructions - 03/02/08 04:18 AM

Well I just came back from decontruction of wood palettes.

It was fun, I used my RMD and my FFFBM. Mostly my FBM cuz it's extremely friggin' thick. But the RMD was actually pretty decent.

Srry I don't have any pictures of the palettes but I'll try to get some of the aftermath.

There's still half a palette of decent wood left. So I could destroy some more. WHOO!!!!!!

Right now I'm just resting and watching some shows in my home-theater... I don't have a pic of that either.

I'm chillin' sipping on some G2 and eating a Clif Bar.

Anyways, I'm tired but anticipate for a really woody next post filled with pictures of wood and wood and more wood and knives.

I need some wood pallets.

Re: Wood Palette Destructions - 03/02/08 10:59 PM

As I promised yesterday, this is gonna be a very woody post.

Here was what I did yesterday. 1 wood palette.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

Big friggin' pile of wood.

Here is what's gonna get destroyed today.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

The technique that I used was:

First loosen up the board with the RMD.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

No damage.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

Then take the FFFBM for the really heavy prying.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

This board was being a little stubborn...so I went to plan B...DESTROY!!!!!

The pictures speak for themselves.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

After that I had several leverage points so I easily took of the wood and bent the nails, etc, etc.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

Here's me doing the first technique.

Pry with RMD.

FFBM time!!!

WHOO!!!

OK... so then I decided to see what the FBM could handle. There were two thick boards stuck together, by nails. I was able to pry it apart and the wood literally just tore.

Oh and I also wasn't very careful during all of this and constantly scraped the tip of the FFBM into nails and, once, straight into a rock...it's fine...fat tip!!!

Some more wood to the pile!!!!

I'm still not finished. There's still some food left!!!!!

I probably won't get it finished until the end of this week or so.

Anyone want some wood????

BTW... don't try this with any other knife. You might actually get it out of alignment. During all of this, I was able to bend the FFFBM, very thick, way beyond 30 degrees. It bent way beyond what I was comfortable for it to bend. Both are extremely flexible though. Good thing they are too.

Re: Wood Palette Destructions - 03/02/08 11:04 PM

Gret pics. 30 degrees huh? Nice.

Re: Wood Palette Destructions - 03/02/08 11:31 PM

Yes... 30 degrees. Maybe more. I kind of bent it to the point where most knives that are 1/4 thick would have snapped. It was bent pretty far. I actually thought I would bend the blade permanently but it didn't happen.

Oh, BTW, the dent that I was talking about on Northern1's post, it's on the picture with the FFBM tip. You can barely see it.

Re: Wood Palette Destructions - 03/02/08 11:51 PM

way to work that blade, the fbm is a pry bar as thick as it is

Re: Wood Palette Destructions - 03/03/08 01:11 AM

i could use some wood. nice shots.

Re: Wood Palette Destructions - 03/04/08 01:22 AM

Scrappy,

Yes, I'd think something that is 5/16 in thick would definitely be a pry bar.

Only problem is the tip of the FBM is waaaay too fat to fit into any crevice...that's what the RMD is for.

M22,

Wood give for FBM.

Re: Wood Palette Destructions - 03/05/08 06:50 AM

Thanks,

I hope this little mini review will put all your fears of prying things with a Busse Kin Knife, tip or blade, to rest.

... not that many of you fear tip breaking, but I've seen my fair share in other knives.

This technically belongs here.

JUMP ON THE FFFBM!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm gonna laugh every time I see this.

Re: Wood Palette Destructions - 03/05/08 07:11 AM

A misdirected jump and you'll be seeing a bunch of stitches. That FFBM will definitely leave a mark.

I've observed that education is expensive no matter how you get it.

Re: Wood Palette Destructions - 03/05/08 07:23 AM

Lima-Oscar-Lima Kraz,

"It'll all go well 'til some one gets hurt" I guess is what your saying.

No worries, I just did it for the heck of it, knowing the knife can't ever fail (under the conditions that I will pit it through). I did take precautions in wedging the knife in tight and jumping correctly. I've had far too many little accidents with knives (small itty bitty annoyingly painful papercut-like cuts) to seriously falter and receive a really harsh accident.

I hope you guys won't take me as some incompetent fool for just doing a little fun test - extremely pointless, I admit - with extra precautions to safety.

Safety first!!

Re: Wood Palette Destructions - 03/05/08 08:20 AM

Well Sharp, all I can tell ya (being officially an "old guy") is that you'll look back at some point in your life and realize that many of the times you did risky stuff and escaped injury/arrest was because you weren't good, but rather just plain lucky. And luck is an undependable thing. I'd hate to see ya get hurt.

Re: Wood Palette Destructions - 03/05/08 08:29 AM

Kraz

I am sincerely grateful for your concern with my safety.

I'm always open for advice from my elders, too.

Thanks

Just a little side note, I've learned, long ago -- from... I guess my own experience...-- that I can't depend on luck in every situation of my life. Handling a knife is surely never gonna be an exception (though I admit, in my younger days, I've been foolish, as we all have).

Read Animal Farm. Luck, what luck?

That poor shipping palette. It could have been used for many more years before you you KILLED IT !!! It's always fun to destroy things with toughest knives. Very Cool !!

Excellent! Proof positive that there are uses for sharpened prybars.

good point. the RMD is a good size knife. I would like one eventually.

Re: Wood Palette Destructions - 03/06/08 06:59 AM

Noss,

Thanks. I think it was widely because of your destruction test on the FFFBM.

Please keep up the good work on the destruction test.

HD,

Actually, what surprised me the most wasn't the FFFBM's lateral strength but the tip strength of the RMD. There was absolutely no tip breaking or bending. I was very surprised for such a thin profiled knife. I was able to do some heavy prying with just the tip of the RMD.

The RMD is, by far, one of the most useful knives I've held. It's thin enough for slicing. Thick enough for prying (I've actually stood on it, it's strong!!), strong tip, good steel/heat treatment, high sabre grind, and just the right size.

Scrappy,

WHAT!!!! Both you and M22 don't have a RMD. HERESY!!!!!!

Really, the RMD is about your perfect medium sized fixed. I hope you can get yourself a good deal on an RMD.

Of course you do have yourself a couple FBMs... which, by the way, don't seem to have been used. (HERESY!!!)

Thanks,

I love my RMD as well. I really can't decide which one I like more, the FBM, big hunk of pure chopping power, or the RMD, a ridiculously ergonomic extremely well rounded knife that could pretty much replace most knives (I may be a little biased, but it is the perfect size, thickness, broadness of blade, weight, handle comfort, etc. , not to mention how well balanced it is), including my FBM ( how is that even possible I have no idea, the RMD just is).

You should start taking the RMD with you on your hikes with Maisy.
