Someone really needs a Dogfather - 04/17/08 07:46 AM

Speaking of Dogfathers, while checking out some stuff on the E-something auction site, I see Dogfather LE going for almost $600. Unreal! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

I've got one less than 1 month ago at $ 220.
Is it fair?

Too bad whoever bid that $ that wasn't reading this Forum when DFLE was released. It pays to check frequently.

there was a chopweiler that went for almost $600 a week or so ago. All the blades going way over their normal trading value are being offered with "custom sheaths". I will admit I like the sheaths, but I don't think they are worth twice as much as the busse kin blades.

Re: Someone really needs a Dogfather - 04/17/08 08:14 PM

and all the crazy high ones came with a fire steel that is what, maybe $7?

A CG FMB just closed at $875 shipped with a kydex sheath, Maxpedition versi pack, Victorinox Farmer in Red Alox handles, a Hewlett made for Kershaw diamond steel, a little Brunton mini Survival kit and a Brunton compact map compass. Like I said, cool gear, but would I pay $450 for a kydex sheath with some goodies I didn't even pick out myself?

and for anybody wondering, they were all started at low or reasonable prices and got bid up to the crazy prices. It takes at least 2 fools to outbid each other in an auction.

Re: Someone really needs a Dogfather - 04/19/08 02:09 AM

Fishy.

I personally think its shill bidding to drive up the price. Knowing that nobody would bid on a blade without knowing what it is first,... the bidders must have first at least visited this forum and bladeforums. After that, their would be some education that these same blades are selling (and available) on bf in the 230 range... kydex sheath about $50

plus, these bidders are the same bidders feuding over the blade, and bidding quite early... not snipeing at the last minute. I figure somebody has many of these and wants to 'pad, load, or drive' the market price up a bit.

It will close, $$ will not change hands, they will be an agreement to mutually not complete the transaction after close, and later, some people will be inclined to ask for more $$ in their sales, while others will be more inclined to pay more, after seeing this. Go figure.

I saw this early with the Dmutt blade on ebay, I do not recall the seller name. Someone may be trying to play some dogs for fools. I am not inditing OhioMitch (seller), however I find it fishy that in this weeks auctions, the bidders are anonymous, and ohiomitch has not had another auction where he set preferences for anonymous bidders, and that is with a history going back to 9/3/03.

Plus, bidder history looks fishy as well (number of bids vs auctions, style, etc.).

Though I could be wrong?

Do you mean me? I just sold a DMDC on eBay this week for $265. If you meant me, that was a valid sale and it was sold and shipped to someone who's bought SY knives from me in the past. As to the anonymous bidders, that's not the sellers doing it, eBay does that. They did that because people were contacting people who were the 2nd highest bidders and offering to sell a similar item for that price, thereby avoiding the fees. Ebay wised up and did that so people couldn't contact the bidders. They automatically switch the bidders listed as anonymous when bidding reaches a pre-set level.

Re: Someone really needs a Dogfather - 04/19/08 02:47 AM

Andy, not you bro. There was a cg Dmutt that went on ebay (the week they hit the market) for $4xx as I recall. What bothered me, suspecting it was a shill deal, I posted a Dmutt of mine for $250 buy it now, mint... and the bidders kept bidding up the $4xx one, and not taking the much cheaper though still silly $250 identical blade.

I vote shilling because 2 bidders went $400 plus for the one DFLE, but neither went for the buy it now of $250 or another starting at $179. Strange..

I could be wrong, but I could swear that some of these really high ones get listed again in another week or 2.
