Stripped Tan SARsquatch - 07/22/08 09:32 PM

Hi guys,

Many thanks to Horn Dog. The pics of your home modified SARsquatch have given me the idea to do the same. I've stripped my Tan Busse SARsquatch blade and put some gun blue on the unfinished raw steel. I love this knife! Here're some pics.

That's a nice color contrast between the blade and the handle. Great job.

Welcome, Hayduke. That tan and blue look great together. I have a tan/sage Skinny ASH-1 I haven't messed with yet. I like the sage, so I may just have one Busse that remains painted. Maybe. For a while. That tan handle looks great. I tried to blue INFI once and it didn't take. I may just stick with vinegar.

Re: Stripped Tan SARsquatch - 07/23/08 09:13 AM

WOW that is right up my alley ,I love the Sarsquatch ,strippers(everyone loves strippers) and blued knives, Those are some classy photos as well.
I was not sure if you could even blue infi with all that alloy in it but yours turned out real nice. I have stripped and blued my Cold Steel Norse Hawk for a ore traditional appearance. Rats blue really well because the SR101 is a simple carbon steel.

Re: Stripped Tan SARsquatch - 07/26/08 08:43 AM

Has anyone treated their blades with MILITEC-1? I did a writeup on the Benelli forums for the M4, curious as to the results on a SYK...

Re: Stripped Tan SARsquatch - 07/27/08 03:43 AM

That looks really tough Hayduke!Nice job. What type of sheath are you using with it?
Posted By: Hayduke

Re: Stripped Tan SARsquatch - 07/27/08 04:24 AM

Thank you. Actually, Meatcutter, I'm using an old sheath from another knife to protect me from the blade, but I'm going to make a leather sheath for the SARsquatch.

I've just to decide myself about the design. I want something sturdy and practical, but not too classic. I must have the time this week. I'll show you some pics.

Re: Stripped Tan SARsquatch - 07/27/08 07:33 AM

I just sliced myself on the thumb while polishing my SH-E.
Those asymmetrical edges are sharp. In a move I should have taken initially I taped up the edge for while I do the hand sanding.

I have seen that "MonkeyWrench Gang' pic somewhere before. I was wondering ,Hayduke where it came from? It looks perfect with the knife.

AdamLau I may try your Miltech 1 idea on mt stripper SS4. I hope it works on INFI.
A nice gun coat would be cool and I have heard good things about Miltech1

I have several George Hayduke books…and he recommended The Monkey Wrench Gang book in them.

Re: Stripped Tan SARsquatch - 07/27/08 02:43 PM

Hi Unsub,

The Monkey Wrench Gang is a novel written by American author Edward Abbey (1927–1989), published in 1975. In my opinion Hayduke hog face is perfect with the SARsquatch.
