My Dad has too many chronic illnesses for me to name, and he has been in and out of the hospital for many years.

I can't give too many details, since even I'm not sure whats going on (us kids were told to leave the room) and he's never been quite like this before and it's scary.
my brother is taking it hard and I don't know what to do.

Please just send your thoughts and prayers for my dad and family.

I don't know why they think that they're helping by not telling family members what's happening -- you're left in a position of naturally assuming the worst, but hoping you're wrong. Best wishes that your Dad makes it through this OK.

The best thing you can do for your brother is to be there for him. Listen to him, whatever he has to say, whatever he may feel. He may feel scared. He may feel angry. He may feel guilty. He may feel anything at all. Let him. Hear him, accept what he says, let him feel what he feels. Let him be what he feels himself to be. Feelings are not the same as thoughts, and they don’t obey the same rules as thoughts. So feelings can seem unacceptable to the thinking mind. That doesn’t matter. Don’t let thinking or judging get in the way of hearing whatever he says with compassion.

Say he feels angry at your dad for getting sick. This makes no sense in intellectual terms; it’s nothing your dad did on purpose. Intellect is not the issue. If you respond with intellect and reject what he feels, that feeling will persist and make trouble. If you accept what he feels, that feeling will change, and move on to the next thing he feels. Which may well be something entirely different. He may blame your mom. He may blame the doctors. He may blame himself. He may blame you. He may blame God. He may fall into terror instead.

Do not judge. Simply accept that he is thinking what he is thinking. That is okay. He is feeling what he is feeling. That is okay. Thoughts and feelings are not inherently good or bad. Actions can be good or bad. But these are internal thoughts and feelings. Accept them. Let them be. By doing so you can be there for, and with, your brother.

We have had a long list of people needing prayers lately. Your Father will be added to the list at once.Too many friends and acquaintances have been plagued by health related issues lately,that's enough. I call a stop to any more health issues and bad karma for people. We can all use a dose of good fortune and happiness to envelope us!It is alright to come to your Dad when he is alone and ask him what's going on. Remind him that you love him and care about him. Perhaps if he confides in you as well you will feel like you have a grip on family matters.Then feel free to offer prayers in his behalf too!

Include yourself in this time of stress and bring to your Father the sunshine and joy you have always brought into his eyes. I am sure he could use some now.
Love has a way of healing loads of issues,we will add our prayers for your Father and for family bonding as well.

my Dad is fine.
his medications (and possibly high blood pressure) caused water to build up around his heart and lungs.

he's now on medications to control that, so everything should be fine.
