3 - YK LEs
9 - YK CGs (in various colors)
2 - YH (1 Black & 1 Tan)

Nice Dumpster Mutts
Now I see the difference in the 2,besides the handle.
The older one has kind of a saber grind thing going.

I have been very blessed by The Yard and its Brotherhood and now own 1 of every model released.

Re: Personal SY Inventory - 01/09/09 05:25 AM

Holy mackerel!
They looked the same to me!
Taking a REAL close look now,I see the
difference in the choi and the slightly more rounded
shape blade of the DM.
Thanks for pointing that out!
Yard Keeper,I was under the impression that was a much
larger knife,on the verge of the DF or so.

So now what is the difference in the 2 Dumpster Mutts...
The one like above, and the one with the regular handle,
was it just the handles that were different?

You mean the 4 Dumpster Mutts?

Combat Grade was the thickest with surplus basic handles.
The MOD was DC and serrated with surplus basic handles.
The DMDC was DC and no serrations with different handles.
The DM LE was satin with different handles with surplus basic handles.

This thread has a couple of the Dumpster Mutt variations on it.

Jim, how did you get 10% of ALL MODs?
I bought the limit of one myself in the Razorganza. The rest were all secondary market: one from a Scrap Yard member who contacted me, one from eBay, and two from the BladeForums Exchange. They don't come up for sale often, and since I have so many DMDCs it seems silly to continue adding to the hoard, but I do love a rarity. So far, the most I've paid for a MOD was $170; I let one get away once the bidding exceeded that.

I'm also rather proud of having four INFIcoots (my first BusseKin knife was an INFIcoot, purchased 4/7/2007); it should have been five, but I let something in a PM bother me, so I backed out on that one. The guy has a good rep and I knew he was making a joke, but sometimes things just rub me the wrong way. Now I wish I'd been a bit thicker-skinned because the price was reasonable at about twice the release price, the blade was mint, and they sure don't come up often.

Everyone has some amazing steel.
The pictures are unbelievable.

About the only knives I need are a DFCG or DFLE on the big end
and a SS4 or a Lean Mean on the small end.
If I could snag one of the bigguns and one of the smalluns, I'd be
a very happy camper.

This is a picture of my Busse blood relatives.

So I have a DMCG then?
Thanks for letting me know.
I just thought it was old style DM.
Didnt realize there were so many versions of it.
Big question now,
Can I use this thing or should I get a "newer" dm to use?

Yes, you have the original DMCG. It's definitely a user.

There was a time when I wondered if Dan was ever gonna make another knife that was not a variation of the Dumpster Mutt. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Fuga,
You need to do a search for photo threads that Pitman has put up regarding
his DMCG. That thing is a tank!!!

Don't be afraid to use it. It'll outlast you!
Oh and when the coating starts to come off, send it to Vic and he'll
make it a nice shiny DMCG for you <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Why isn't it on all of them ? Great way to carry extra cordage when you are in the bush.
Also, works great if you have big paws.

The wraps are useful because I prefer larger grips for my big hands. ESPECIALLY on the older Dumpster Mutts with the small Busse Basic handles (DMCG & DMLE). Those handles are REALLY small! The moku hitching on the DFLE works pretty well, but the ringbolt hitching on the DMLE and the YKCG is perfect. It serves to add thickness in excess of fatness, if that makes any sense. The SAR5 has really fat grips, so doesn't need any added. The mudder grips are perfect the way they are. The RMD is also perfect. The smaller knives with micarta (HCLE, HCSE) are fine with smaller handles because finger control is all you really want on them. At some point I will likely wrap the SODs and the DFCG. I'm holding off on the SODLE until the JYD with that number lets me know if he wants it. In any case (as you see on the DFCG), you definitely want a wrist lanyard on any chopper for safety purposes.

Re: Personal SY Inventory - 01/11/09 09:00 AM

Mhr,
You've got big hands and I have small hands. The handle of the SOD is just
about perfect, and the handle on my RMD is just right!
It's cool how you did the smaller knives like that.
I'm going to have to learn to do that someday.

Thanks.

After I saw this I had to try it. I went with the ringbolt stitching and it not only looks good but feels good as well. Thanks MHR, here's how it turned out:

Re: Personal SY Inventory - 01/11/09 11:32 AM

Looks great! I think you used a different method (even for a two-strand ringbolt). I have a two-strand on my DMLE, constructed by tying a constrictor knot as far forward on the grip as possible. Leave 'loooong' tag ends, then alternate half hitches in opposite directions to the end of the handle. Keep the hitches as straight as possible down the belly of the grip. Pass the tag ends through the lanyard hole in opposite directions when you get to that point, and finish as you like. The three strand as on my YKCG is more complicated, but close-up pictures may help show the detail...

Interestingly, the way the knot begins on the grip creates a functional finger stop when choking up on the blade. Since the YK choil isn't big enough for an index finger (without modification), I find this wrap configuration on this knife to be 100% to my liking. In fact, every hike/camp/backcountry trip I took this past summer ended up with this knife along for the ride. When decision time came (that is, "which fixed blade will be worth the weight?"), this was the answer every time.

I don't have any yet, but a Swamp Rat mini uncle mojo is on the way, and I'm putting money aside for a S5 or three. I'm also looking for a few others - would especially like to get my hands on a scrap muk. And BLADE is about two weeks after I officially receive my PhD, so I might buy myself a couple graduation presents....

Re: Personal SY Inventory - 04/14/09 10:58 PM

Hmmm, I think this is all of them. Hard to believe I only first heard of Busse blades in March '08! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

SYK:

1 - DFLE
1 - DFCG
1 - S6 (Black)
1 - DMLE
1 - DMDC
1 - SS4
1 - Yardkeeper LE
1 - Yardkeeper CG (Tan)
1 - MPLE
1 - BDLE
2 - SOD CG (Tan)
2 - Muk LE

Swamp Rat:

2 - Crash Axe (Black w/ brown micarta)
2 - HCLE 3.5"
1 - Chopweiler (Very sweet, just got in the mail when I came home! I love it!!)

Busse:
ASH1 CG (Sage w/ black micarta)

In the mail, heading to me:
SAR5 CG
SARsquatch CG

On a sidenote, I used to have 2 each of the MPLE and the BDLE, but gave a Bird Dog to my dad, who loves it, and one of the MPLEs (with accompanying Rainwalker sheath) is going to my nephew next summer, when he turns 12. For now, it's being held by my dad, who keeps fingering it, and asking if Marshall wouldn't be happier with a nice Swiss Army Knife! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Re: Personal SY Inventory - 04/15/09 02:47 AM

yeah, I was prepared to be sniped...and didn't think I was going to win. Sure was happy when that "Congratulations" email came through. It's been used and not mint, but easily the best deal I got. I got free shipping on it too.

It balances things out though. If I told y'all what I paid for the Chopweiler back when I first got in to these knives, you'd all point, snicker and laugh at me <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Re: Personal SY Inventory - 04/15/09 03:06 AM

Wow; nice! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Funny you mention the Chopweiler... I just picked one up and received it today in the mail. I paid $30 more than you did for the SS4, and it even came with a nice sheath. After playing with it in the backyard for a bit, I can understand everyones' fascination with this knife. It simply feels perfect for chopping.

My lone SY knife is a SOD, tan, homemade leather pants. The S5 could change that though.

Re: Personal SY Inventory - 04/15/09 03:09 AM

Wait, you mean to tell me you've got the best JYD number of all time, and you only own one SY knife??? That seems almost criminal to me <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Re: Personal SY Inventory - 04/15/09 03:43 AM

Lol, I do have a few other Busse and Swamp pieces of steel. The last release just didn't do it for me. But it is a good point, maybe I should search eBay or BF. Lol, oh, I had a DF that I traded for a Ratweiler that I sold for something else etc etc.

Is it the best JYD number ever?

Soon a Scrapper 5

Swamp Rat:

Busse:
