Scrap Yard Knife Company
BCAA
Tonight is the first offical meeting of the BCAA, for those of you new here tonight, that is the Bowie & Chopper Aholic Association.
Hi, my name is Jason and I am addicted to Bowies.......
I would just like to add that it would be great to see the new bone in the Yard be the Bowie.
Hello Jason, my name is Paul. I'm a recovering bowie-aholic clean for about a year now... But I think that's going to change soon!
Hello Jason, my name is Tom. I have been addicted to Bowie knives ever since I first watched Jim Bowie on television so many years ago as a youngster. I have no plans for recovery, and can hardly wait for Scrap Yard to release theirs!

1) Battle Rat
2) Ratwielers
1) Fusion Steel Heart
1) Camp Tramp
1) Ranger RD9
1) Ranger RD7
See I don't have a problem I'm not addicted... or am I just in denial?????? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

Re: BCAA - 09/30/06 05:16 PM
TBAUGH7 the first step is admitting you have a problem.......denial is a stinky cologne. Awsome picture by the way! The only thing missing from it is a Scrap Yard Bowie!
I will include a picture of my Choppers and Bowies in the next meeting, but currently I have
2 RD9s
1 Rat Daddy
4 Battle Rats
1 Rat Weiler
1 Camp Tramp
I am hoping to add some large Scrappers to this AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!! I don't see my addiction as a problem, but more as an outlet to pent up frustrations......choppers are therapeutic.

I like that orange ...rd7?
Posted By: TBAUGH7
Re: BCAA - 09/30/06 10:46 PM
Thanks, I got a matching set. Allot of my friends say it ugly but its one knife thats easy to find when you drop it or stick it in a tree while working.
TBAUGH7 - that is one awesome pile of steel you have there! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
Nice selection, the orange handle makes perfect sense for a wilderness blade but is a little hard on the eye! I make do with bright colour climbing cord lanyards, but I like your style!
I agree with you Paul on both points, but can appreciate the ease of location with the orange handles. It's like shooting arrows in the woods - camo ones look cool but get lost, while brightly colored ones look flashy but can be retrieved. Falling leaves and debris can sure hide a black handled knife quickly.
Posted By: TBAUGH7
Re: BCAA - 10/01/06 06:25 AM
I larned quickly when I lost one knife, aesthetics is cool but functionality is another. I would rather have a great knife that is hot pink than to have the same knife in camo. when you set it down and can find it quickly because its a ugly pink knife is more important than to have a camo. one that looks cool.
Yep, bright orange works well for real world blade locating! In a similar vein what do we all think of black blades over mid grey ones (etc)? Black blades always make me think military, perhaps at some point in the future dog can offer other colour options? You'd not lose a totally orange 'survival' knife! Grey appeals to me over black...

Ok fellows, I just recieved another chopper.....1 of the 2 expecting BRs....this came with the Dwayne Puckett sheath...oh so very nice..I think the sheath is about to go to the Satin BR. Pictures are pending the arrival of the last brother chopper...can't leave anyone out!

10.5...I hope that is all blade!
Droool... big bowie.... arrrghhlll (in a Homer style)
You guys are both right about the BattleRat, as it is a great knife. Paul, you are also right in that this is Dan's chance to improve upon the BattleRat and other big knives. BOWIES Rock !!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

You want a Bowie on a Rock?
Unusual method of delivering a bowie but yes a Dan bowie presented to a customer on a rock would be fine...

The Bowie in the Stone..
Who so pulleth this Bowie From this stone, shall forever be...Top Dog!
Bring it on Big Guy!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
Being the token Brit, it's mine darn it, all mine!! Wa-ha-ha!!!
Careful, Paul the Brit - some of my ancestors are of the Buchanan Clan of Scotland, and we know what William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, and Rob Roy McGregor did to the English!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Errr, yes one of the few wars us Brits (ok English for this one) have lost over the years, however I think 'we' did get Wallace eventually! I've got family north of the border though so I'm kind of in the middle of that old one!

Come on BCAA lets hear it for the BOWIE!!!!!
BOWIE BOWIE BOWIE! The BCAA (in)formally recognises Dan for steadfastness in the face of hog poll-fixin' interlopers!

Re: BCAA - 10/04/06 12:33 AM
Ok "token" Brit....what exactly is a sod....is it rude to call someone that? Is it low level cursing?
It is low level cursing, it means someone who is uncooperative, mischievous, grumpy or a pain in the rear. Sod is similar to git. It's only slightly rude.
Hey - You just described ME! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Re: BCAA - 10/04/06 10:20 PM
Hi my name is kevin, and i'm a bowieaholic... i missed the first meeting due to the fact i was under the influence of an S7 Gingrich bowie, and i tend to lose track of time when i'm using a big knife. It cuts into my work, relationship, not to mention the enormous financial strain knife addiction causes... pics to follow, thanks for being there to support me.
WOW GF - That's quite a pile of steel you have there! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> I hope you are able to add an SR77 Bowie to that collection soon. Nice going! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
He needs to buy two bowies on account of getting out of touch about them... Nice spread though GF!
Posted By: sr77dogg
Re: BCAA - 10/05/06 12:48 AM
GF -- truly lovely stack of steel. But i think to go with that wicked 1st generation Ranger you need one of these (including the hot-pink lanyard, of course, just for irony <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />:
Posted By: sr77dogg
Re: BCAA - 10/05/06 12:51 AM
This S7 bowie is the only reason i didn't initially push for an SR-77 bowie, but now it is clear that since i have two hands, i need another one...

Oh...the envy meter just went off!!
Posted By: sr77dogg
Re: BCAA - 10/05/06 02:13 AM
my envy meter about did a back-flip at your blade-bonanza there... someday i'm going to drop by the blade exchange and there will be one of the old hollow-ground RD7s... someday... oh and that satin Battle Rat... i about popped a shot when i saw that -- one came up for sale a while back, but the secondary market prices are a little out of my league, if you know what i mean... (but the Ranger bowie was a lucky score... I have a Ranger fixation like the HOGs have for Busses...)
Posted By: Gravelface
Re: BCAA - 10/05/06 03:42 AM
I didn't know there was a difference in the styles of the RD9 until I meet Gingrich at Blade and I bought his last old style RD9..my wife carries a Little bird in her purse...I priced a S-7 RD9 with him...a little more than I wanted to spend at the time, but they are o so nice.

Ok, normally I wouldn't say anything about most movies, but this ain't like most movies....go, right now to the local theatre and check out "Departed"....no more will be discussed unless you have seen it. It is a great movie to help pass the time till the Bowie make it to my house!!!!!

Re: BCAA - 10/09/06 06:09 AM
I thought it looked good. It got an A review from critics and yahoo users. I'll probably wait for it to come out on video though. I hardly go to the movies anymore. It's too expensive.
Same here Andy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/paperbag.gif" alt="" /> Looks like a pretty good cast of actors, and should be interesting. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Beer theater ? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
I'm guessing it's like the theater here in Indy. Instead of rows of seats, there are tables, and you can buy beer and food and you can eat and drink while you watch the movie. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
Wow Andy, that sounds great! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> I have never even heard of a theatre like that, but I sure wish there was one close to us!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />
Hell yeah, those this side of the pond would be very cool! On the topic of films do I dare ask if anyone has seen 'An Inconvenient Truth' (Al Gore) and what did you think (or what has been the reaction in the states)?

Haven't seen it yet, but some inconvenient truths surrounding the Gore family are Albert's opposition to freedom of speech/freedom of press in his book "Earth In the Balance" and Tipper Gore's opposition to freedom of speech/freedom of press with her attempt to ban the sales of various musical recordings with the help of her Parents' Music Resource Center.

...and the beer....and the wine.....

Censorship, gagging the media, impeding freedom of speech and democracy don't mix... Shame on them!

Some of my friends once snunk in some bottles of beer to a regular theatre. Then accidently knocked over some empties they set on the floor. Which of course rolled all the way down the aisle. Which were obvious to the other movie-goers what they were by the sound. Oops.

Re: BCAA - 10/11/06 01:21 AM
In Austin Tx there was the Alamo Draft House, they would serve food fitting the movie. When they played "The Last Dragon" they gave a free 40oz with every ticket purchase, they even played Jaws out on the lake and rented a Bowling alley to play The Big Libowski and served white russians all night!

Re: BCAA - 10/11/06 01:42 AM
For "Goonies" they rented a local cave and held a treasure hunt for clues as to where it would be....or you could just go to their website and get directions...it was the most inventive place
http://www.drafthouse.com/ that is a link to all its locations and what movies will be playing. Not too far from Scrap Yard....could be fun!
Just as well they didn't screen 'Scream' if they were near to the yard!

Gravel-Face,
Post that more recent pic of your H Razor. The red looks red and beastly.
Personally I wouldn't say anything to the face of anyone with enough bottle to carry a pink FBM around... Working on the principle that the SAS drive pink Landrovers around in the desert (they really do!!!); and telling the SAS they drive 'gay pink landies' is bad for your health...
The Landrovers are pink 110" wheelbase ones with strengthened chassis and nicknamed 'Pink-panthers'.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I looked into Khuks, but all the styles and brands. I know HI is supposed to be "THE" brand, but some others seem alright. Then all the styles are just crazy.....they all seem so close to one another, yet all serve their own function....which is a great chopper? I think that is why I stick with what I know.
GF have a look at Valiants parangs- they spank HI khuk's (allegedly!! Check out Outdoors-Magazine.com for online reviews)

HI's Sirupate khukuris generally have thinner edges (so they'd hit deeper) so they're for chopping down trees. Their Ang Khola khuks are better at splitting wood once it's already chopped and they're often pleasingly plump.

I hear some guy in Lou'sana named 'Prpl Hrt' is selling a hog's ransom of pork and cheese to get his trotters on a limited edition FBM or two. Hasn't offered his [color:"red"]red[/color] G-10 scaled H Razor yet, so you know he's not truly desparate.

Wow, he must be one desperate Dog......but I am sure even he has certain blades that he won't be seperated from. I hear he still has the FNMOASH, Satin HOGFSH, and a UCHOGFSH......but then again, it's all hearsay. He even parted with his mint SBR, but has a user in the closet, so I guess he is still ok. Also, I heard that you would have to pry his 1/4" black paper micarta SJ from his cold fingers.....also he might be saving some for a certain bowie that is due out in the yard soon....but like I said, you can't believe everything you read. Also, he went ahead and ordered that custom 12.5" Bowie from David Wesner (18 post above for the link) It is rumored that he ordered it in 5160 instead of A2, but what do I know.....I married young.

Re: BCAA - 12/28/06 06:52 AM
Every one likes the chopper bowies but I prefer a thinner fighter style bowie
with the sharp back edge spanish notch and one of those bottlecap opener things on top. I prefer a small axe for clearing branches and the original bowies were sidearms for a time when handguns were very unreilable and often only had one shot. Here in canada you can't take a gun anywhere but to and from a range or hunting but you can carry any size of fixed blade so long as you don't have criminal intent. A scrapper fighting bowie would be awesome with a 8 and a half inch or even 10 inch bladeof S7 and a resiprene handle. Most people discount knives as weapons in favour of handguns but at the range of most handgun combat a knife is no disadvantage(most civilian gunfights take place within 20 feet and a healthy man can move 14 feet a second). I would also like to see the yard take on a more different flavour from the usual Busse and rat offerings. Not that there is anything wrong with them, quite the contrary but I would like to see more of Dan's personality in the next few knives.
Posted By: Gravelface
Re: BCAA - 12/28/06 06:59 AM
I think fighter style knives have their place....like the movies...I mean who really gets in knife fights?! Also most knife fights I have seen or heard of take place with box cutters/razor blades or folder pocket knives. I like practical blades, and I HATE the catch....last thing I want to do is catch a knife that close to my hand.
GF I agree, knife fights or knife attacks are invariably Stanley knife or kitchen knife affairs, most of the time only the military spends real money on a fighter.. (And those are for sentries not meelee combat..)

Re: BCAA - 01/07/07 12:12 AM
Here in canada we can carry any size knife we want but no handguns even cops can't get concealed carry permits. Also with the war in iraq and afaganistan there is alot of demand for a good high quality fighter that the basic grunt can afford.
Swamprat did a run of 11 beautiful knives for an engineering unit in afganistan
that was not only usefull but really good for morale.

I wanted to try out one of those RTAK IIs...any chance to use it yet?
Posted By: Guyon
Re: BCAA - 01/18/07 09:38 PM
Yeah, in the above pic, I've now used the RD-9, the RTAK II, and the CG FBM.
RTAK II is a pretty slender blade with a sweet spot a little further back than, say, a typical Busse or SR. Still a decent chopper for the money, I think, but I haven't really put mine through the paces yet. Seemed to hold an edge well enough after 10 to 15 minutes of chopping, so I think the heat treat is good.
The RD-9 above had some probs with coating chipping off. Justin offered a free recoat, but I decided to try a cold blue with some of Brownell's Oxpho Blue. Supposed to be good stuff and should be in this week. Have already stripped the RD-9 and have it ready to go. I'll post a pic in this thread once I get it done.
I see no Beckers in your list. You need to try a Brute or a Machax or a Combat Bowie. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
Posted By: Gravelface
Re: BCAA - 01/18/07 11:55 PM
The Full Flat Grind RD9 had a coating problem so I stripped it....and I also broke about 3/4 of an inch off the tip while giving it some exercise, Justin Offered to regrind it....but I don't like sending my knives off and just did it myself. The old hollow ground RD9's coating is holding up like a champ and it is quite a bit thicker than the new one. I have been eyeing a BK9HH model and as soon as I see one...it will be added to the list. I wanted to add a HI Bolo in the BF exchange, but HI's warranty only applies to the original owner!? So now I can save my money for something else...like a DOG FATHER!

Re: BCAA - 01/19/07 04:13 AM
The Basic 9 is a Gem...usually resonably Priced and it chops like a beast....I am not a fan of the asymmetrical edge in appearance, but it sure is fun to abuse, sharpens easily. Watch out...if I see one resonable...I just might get it also!

I used my RM last year to chop up the Xmas tree indoors after the season. I thought it’d make it easier to fit out the door. The problem was, it made the blade really sticky with pine sap and was hard to clean off, even with soap and a scrubber pad. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

yeah both my knives were Covered in Sap! my gloves too.. was pretty stick situation. Iirc, the x-mas tree was Douglas Fir.. if that makes any difference.
I sprayed WD-40 all over the knives.. scrubbed w/ toothbrush.. WD-40 again.. then dunked in hot soapy water.. and both came clean Easy!

Re: BCAA - 01/25/07 06:11 AM
Hmm..maybe it would help to coat the knife with something like a type of oil or whatever BEFORE chopping, to make it slippery and prevent the sap from sticking in the first place? Kinda like how some suggest coating your pots and pans with dish soap before using on a fire so the soot washes off when you wash them.

I found this pic so inspirational.. had to re-post it here.
http://bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4189941&postcount=23It's BootmasterGeneral's FBM over on BF.
This pic just does it for me..
When i get my DF.. i'm gonna snap a pic just like this!
..T I M B E R..!!
A FBM in it's natural habitat and eating a tree, very nice.
A Dog Father eating a tree, now that will be a thing of beauty. I look forward to the picture

Yes it is Mod-Infi.....from what I have read, you would need to examine the steel on a compostion level to see a difference...performance is the same.

Re: BCAA - 02/03/07 03:57 AM
Interesting..
Gravelface, what do Basic 9's go for these days? roughly?
be kinda neat if Busse re-released one as their Anniversary knife!
kinda nostalgic..
Tony not many around I've seen a couple sell on BF for $275 to $350 (with factory sheath) in the last few weeks. (Plus shipping etc etc!) Still lots better than a FBM if the fella selling it is legit'!

Woa!
that's not as much as i thought it'd be!
i woulda guessed it went for more $ than FBM!
Yep, just try to find one- they sell INSTANTLY on posting.. dammit!

was Asymmetrical just more cost-effective to do?
still not sure why/how it gives a chopping advantage..

Re: BCAA - 02/03/07 07:29 PM
Can someone please explain the asymmetrical edge thingy?
I think one side is flat ground the other is convex, but I could be wrong! (Katanas were traditionally only sharpened on one side of the grind)

Re: BCAA - 02/04/07 03:26 AM
That is interesting about traditional Katanas.

Re: BCAA - 02/04/07 06:23 AM
Can someone please explain the asymmetrical edge thingy?
Hi guys,
I've had a couple Busse asymmetrical edges so I'll try to explain them a bit. What it amounts to is one side of the blade has a large amount of edge...almost chisel ground. Then the grinder is lightly used on the other side. What you end up with is less of a "v" edge and one that would look more like a checkmark. That make sense?
The advantage of this is to leave more steel thickness behind the edge for chopping applications. Since I chop left handed though, it gave me a bit of a disadvantage, because upon impact, the shape of the edge would deflect the blade toward my body rather than away from it. I grind any asymmetrical edges I get back into a v.
Hopefully I have helped rather than just add more confusion. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Re: BCAA - 02/04/07 07:34 AM
360joules,
that Does help!
Reminds me of when folks complain about knife makers putting a single-edge on the wrong side.. iirc they put on left side for appearance.. and right-handers do not like. And vice versa.
I think symmetric edges would be the way to go.. for lefties And righties!

Re: BCAA - 02/04/07 08:33 PM
Thank you 360joules!!

It could also be just passing up on the Street Scrapper 4 because that's the knife for grown-ups and I'll be damned if I act my age or the age of anyone else who doesn't watch Curious George right after work and get the urge to cause more mischief than the man with the yellow hat could remedy.

I can't believe you got Tangipahoa right then screw up Parish!!!
I got out the Army and moved back to town about 4 Days prior to Katrina! My In-Laws had a tree fall through their home....we (the wife's father and I) spent the better part of a year reconstructing it. He has 2 lazy worthless POSs, but that is a different story!
Yes there are much smaller places, but Hammond isn't a pimple compared to Slidell, New Orleans, Baton Rouge.....all the places that surround it.
Dan, what would really be a thing of beauty would be a res-C sr77 katana or wakizashi at your more down-to-earth prices! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Re: BCAA - 02/08/07 09:29 PM
I agree.
Using my trusty calculator, if a FBM CG is $387, a DF CG is $140 and a AK47 is $587, a scrapper sword should cost $212.
I would buy it.

I have only paid secondary prices on the AK, EU-17 Magnum and now the Basic 9.
Only the Eu-17 Magnum was more than a reasonable premium for an out of production knife. It's 1 of 28 and I fell in love with the handle, what can I say?
The Rat Daddy and even the old line Rat Mastiff are tempting but I'll just wait for the new Mastiff and Ratweiler and I'll pay list price.
As nice as the Rat Daddy looks (especially the LE), I can't justify it at the price they command.

Remember, they only command what people pay...if it seems high it won't sell....just as you raised the level of command by paying more than what you thought was resonable for the EU.
I paid 325 for my RD....not too bad, yes there are a few asking a bit more...but notice they don't sell. Re: BCAA - 02/27/07 10:29 AM
Thanks. The shorter ones I shot first last summer. They’re so short because that’s before I figured out how to compress the videos to another format. Those short clips were originally like 15+ megs each. Being on dialup at 44k, I didn’t want the file size much bigger than that. After I did the hawk video I figured out how to convert it to a smaller .WMV file. The hawk video was also like 15 megs, but it’s several minutes (not seconds) long. So, in the future I’ll make longer videos like the hawk video now that I know how to compress the file. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Re: BCAA - 02/27/07 10:21 PM
I heard a "rumor" from my sister that my parents got me a "huge knife" for my birthday, which I can only assume is going to be an RD9 b/c my dad is a Ranger fan. I'll be visiting them this weekend, so we'll see!

Re: BCAA - 03/13/07 12:17 AM
Well, the RD9 didn't happen - I got a spyderco sharpmaker though - definately useful. I DID, on the other hand, pick up a CGFBM and it arrived last night. Here she is w/ the DF and RTAK II:

Re: BCAA - 03/13/07 12:25 AM
And Andy... I'm thinking about making her a "user." We've had this discussion before... I'm going to break in the DF first though and hopefully the Mistress can just stay in the safe... But I don't know. I just put a "D Guard" on it too - just begging to go outside. She's staying in Time Out for now though.

Re: BCAA - 03/13/07 01:38 AM
Thanks guys! I'm scared of it. I think that the DF will stay my main "user," but I just don't know...! Since it won't chop 3 times better than the DF (probably not much better at all, honestly!) its hard for me to get past the $$ issue. It has a couple of small rub marks on it though, one on the pommel goes through the finish (from shipping!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> ), so since its no longer mint... I should just use it huh?

Re: BCAA - 03/13/07 02:03 AM
Congrats! I just sent you a PM, its kind of off topic and rambles!
The CGFBM has a very interesting feel and balance to it... like nothing else I've ever held. Not as weight forward as the DF, but it still feels very cool.
Posted By: Unsub
Re: BCAA - 03/13/07 03:19 AM
I would think that the forward weight bias of the FBM would make it a better fighter and the DF would make a better chopper. Another good thing about using the FBM as a fighter it won't get scuffed up. Worst case scenario with the FBM you drop it practicing or someones ribcage puts a big scratch in it. Of course you are more likely to use it like a breaching tool in a combat situation.
Posted By: diceman
Re: BCAA - 03/13/07 03:35 AM
I've thought about just holding on to the FBM until I get deployed (which is bound to happen eventually) - but I don't know if the blue G10 will fly w/ the uniform - I may be able to get away with it though.
I'm hoping to get green handles on the Tank Buster if they offer them, and if it ever comes out...
Off topic anyone heard any news on the anniversary SH?

Just get one of those brushes H/D uses to keep his DF clean and wash the FBM along with your other cutlery <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Hand wash only! Not dishwasher safe! In fact it would probably slice your dishwasher all to pieces.

Right on! It’s more “special” when it’s customized through your own use. Like the pics you saw of my RM. It has more wear on it than any knife I have. But I like it because I earned those marks through use of it doing what I enjoy in the outdoors. Those marks are souvenirs of my outdoor adventures. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

No - the Dogfather and RD9 are on the schedule for this weekend though. I'm doing them in shifts to avoid my wife's wrath. I'm not a good liar, and I don't think she's seen the CGFBM yet... she'll get to asking questions, the price will come up, and I'll get "cut off" if ya know what I mean. I plan on taking all of the choppers on a camping trip this summer for a Horn Dog style chop-off.

My dad used it when he was a kid then he gave it to me and I've been using it for about 41 years. I have used it to clear blackberries, clear trails, build forts cut trees and just general digging chopping and it's still going strong.

Hmmm…ya know, all this talk about alcohol and dead guys reminded me of a story I read. I found this on Reuter’s oddly enough news page a while back, so it’s true, not some internet urban legend.
Hungary workers get shock at bottom of rum barrel
Thu May 4, 2006 9:49 AM ET
Hungarian builders who drank their way to the bottom of a huge barrel of rum while renovating a house got a nasty surprise when a pickled corpse tumbled out of the empty barrel, a police magazine website reported.
According to online magazine
www.zsaru.hu, workers in Szeged in the south of Hungary tried to move the barrel after they had drained it, only to find it was surprisingly heavy and were shocked when the body of a naked man fell out.
The website said that the body of the man had been shipped back from Jamaica 20 years ago by his wife in the barrel of rum in order to avoid the cost and paperwork of an official return.
According to the website, workers said the rum in the 300-liter barrel had a "special taste" so they even decanted a few bottles of the liquor to take home.
The wife has since died and the man was buried in a proper grave.

If you're ever in Oregon GF head to the Rogue Ale Brewery. They also have a sampler that will light you up. Bring a designated driver <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
My avatar is for Rogue Ale Brewery "Dead Guy Ale". Very unique flavor almost smoky flavor, can actually find it in the grocery store once in awhile.
I love Dead Guy! That Save a Center stocks it! All sorts of Flavors.
Abita has a beer called Andygator and it will LIGHT YOU UP....and Abita is about 35 miles east of me....so we visit the Local Brewery occasionally!

Admiral Nelson was pickled in Rum after saving the UK and being shot by a sniper.
I can't imagine they threw that rum away either. It should not be unhealthy as what germs could live in a barrel of rum?
I like Gravelface's idea about something more Norse or european for a sword from the yard. Japanese stuff is getting played out. I have had my cheness getting worked on for 6 months now and hopefully it will be done soon.
I am really into primitive blades like the ones in Bors photo. If you get a chance to check out Neil Mckee on knifeart he does amazing work for dirt cheap.
While your there my very favorite custom maker(not cheap) Ander Hogstrom is worth a look. I plan on being buried with one of his pieces.
Unsub, good luck with your lottery numbers! And I thought Jerry was expensive.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

For some reason I thought you were farther south than that. I hang around in NO and Washington Parish.
