Remembering Fallen Warriors

This Memorial Day, I remember those who fell in battle. So many young men died in far away places serving the United States. I also remember my father, Sr Chief Petty Officer Robert H. Ross, USN who survived WWII and Korea. He was in the Soloman Islands campaign, the battle of Guadalcanal, and many others. He also served as an advisor in the failed Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba. My father died ten years ago today at age 79. While he did not die in battle, I remember him as a patriot and warrior to the end.

Cheers, respect and gratitude to all those who serve and have served for our great country!

Also remembering veterans of all wars today.I visited here yesterday. Its hard not to visit a National Cemetary without getting emotional.

Vic, I'm in awe of your father. He participated in, and returned from some of the fiercest fighting there was. History that I have only read about. You must be very proud. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Today I honor veterans of all wars, on all sides of the battlefield. I also honor every person who has ever lost a life as a result of wars worldwide, whether that person was a victim of a coward's car bomb, or a family lost as collateral damage from tactical missile strikes, today is the day to reflect on the true cost of war - human life.

I honor our men and women who have fallen in service above all others, but I also mourn the lives of our enemies, because many of them were doing what they believed was right just as our soldiers did the same. Every life lost is lost to the world.

I hope our leaders, whatever their politics, will continue to use force when necessary to defend our way of life, but that they do so with great regret and sadness, knowing the cost of such actions.

On this day least we forget the great men and women that did/do so much for us.

Today, I'd like to honor and thank all the men and woman who serve and have served in the past, to help us keep our freedoms and liberties, and all of our other constitutional rights that make living in this country so great. I only hope that in the future, we still have a constitution, our liberty and our freedoms that so many have died to protect. Today, some of these things seem to be slipping away....

My grandfather fought in WWII and was at Normandy on D-Day. He also survived the war and was a great role model for me. I honor him and all others who have fought to make and keep our country free.

Although I am not American, but am a PROUD Canadian, I'll take a moment and give thanks to the warriors that stood for freedom, from all our allied countries. Today is a special day in the US and for that I will give a special thanks to my American brethren.
May we stay friends forever.
I had an uncle that was very close to me that served in WWII and I remember once on Remembrance day (November 11th) what he hoped most for.
His reply suprised me. He said he hoped that in the not too distant future the last vet would pass on.
When I asked him what he meant he said "that would mean that there would be at least one generation that grew up not knowing war. At that time all the sacrifices of our fallen soldiers would finally mean all that they hoped it would mean."

I won't live to see that day but perhaps my grandchildren might.
