Participation on the Regulator Bowie Test Team may also qualify you for a substantial discount, if we end up doing substantial modifications to the design.

Price of the Test Team model is $129.95.

It will come with either a black blade and black handle or a black blade and tan handle.

You may request your preference of the handle, but you may not receive your request as there are a limited number of these left and no more will be made.

Well, it seems to me like alot of us are gonna end up getting this test team edition. Once all of us return all of our feedback on this thing the Regulator ought to turn out to be one heck of a blade, not that it isn't already!

Yeah, there is a lot of us getting one. I am starting to think that the feedback should be quite extensive and comprehensive. I bet the TTRB will be tough, but the final RB will be the end all bowie.

The blade rocks as is. With the input from the team I hope we can all come to an agreement on the possible changes. I am truly grateful to be a part of this, I think the Yard has really gone out of it's way to produce a better knife and to please this relatively small group of knife lovers. Just got back from vacation in Houston and Austin. The reason Austin is so dadgum liberal is because of the faculty at UT, probably in the thousands, that vote and influence students to vote the same way.

Same with the teachers and prf's in Ohio. It amazing how they influence the students minds. My HS grad went from right to left after his teachers spewed their opinions. Eventually he will wise up.

Good news on the Regulator too.

I'd like to address this silly notion that the evil liberal professors of the world are corrupting the innocent minds of our youth.

I've been directly involved in higher education since 1997, first as an undergraduate student, then as a lab instructor, followed by graduate school to get my PhD, and finally a recent change to a postdoctoral position where I'm directly responsible for both teaching and mentoring everything from freshman students to experienced seniors and graduate fellows.


NOT ONCE, in over a decade of college experience, spanning direct employment at three different universities, and collaborations and conferences with hundreds more, have I EVER felt like a "liberal teacher" was forcing his beliefs upon me.

In fact, in that decade of experience, the ONLY professor I EVER saw being pushy and forceful with his political beliefs was a conservative.



The reality of it is, much like high school, college students, for the most part, don't really care what their professors think - whether that's apathy, rebellion, or outright disdain for teachers who, quite frankly, are often far more interested in their own research than teaching ANYTHING to the students, including political beliefs.

The real influence is the students around them. A bunch of young people, put together without parental influence, is naturally going to lean toward the liberal side - ESPECIALLY when the conservative talk show hosts have put so much effort into painting the left as some "liberal elite", and marginalizing the educated - well, these students are becoming the educated, and starting to feel the hatred directed at them.

THAT, my friends, is a far more powerful influence than the teachers who the students probably dislike anyway.



Furthermore, my anecdotal observations have shown a very reproducible trend - students from ultra-liberal backgrounds are more likely to swing towards the conservative when they are in college, and students from ultra-conservative backgrounds are more likely to move to the left. That's simple youthful rebellion at work. Those from more moderate backgrounds, on either side of the fence, are more likely to retain beliefs in line with those of their parents.




My overall point? As someone who has gone deep into debt, and resigned himself to a lifetime of pay too low for the level of education, with long hours and little recognition of my work, I am personally deeply offended by the implication that I, or any of my colleagues, are part of some left-wing conspiracy to corrupt the minds of your students. It takes every ounce of effort I can muster to get your brats to give a crap about quantum mechanics, let alone try to undo the deep-seated personal beliefs that you have instilled in them for the last eighteen years. If four years away can truly change your teachings that much, perhaps you should look inwards into the way you raised them, and stop blaming the educators who work with too little funding, too little respect, and too little time for our own families.

I hear ya MM but the fact is that a lot of colleges and their faculties are liberal (just like Hollywood and the media for the most part) - especially the Ivy league schools. I could care less about what their ideologies are as long as they keep them to themselves. I don't want them trying to push their opinions off on the kids any more than I want doctors or any other authority figure doing it.

But, like your experiences, I never had any professor try to force or persuade their liberal ideas onto me in 6 years of college. Good thing, cause I definitely would have given him/her a piece of my mind. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Nope, no need to look at my post again - it's bad enough that I have to deal with the entitlement mentality of young people, and the complete lack of respect they show me in the classroom. I don't need the media and people on a shared interest board accusing me and all of my ilk of ruining their children.



As KS said, a vast majority of people in academic fields lean towards the liberal side, but that doesn't mean we deserve the kind of ridicule, accusations, and derision we face from the right on a daily basis. That very disrespect might be a large part of the REASON so many of my colleagues are liberals.

Please don't blame the teachers it is their peers and them experiencing life. There is a whole world out there and our children need to grow on their own. We can instill values into them but in the end it is up for them to choose.

I have seen far to often children who have been repressed by their parents and have no thoughts of their own and no idea of any side of issues. I am not just talking politics here. I work as a trainer in a financial institution and recently had two High school interns come work with me. One hated Banks (I work at a Credit Union) the only thing his parents had taught him was "Banks steel your money" while I agree there are many financial institutions out there only for themselves this is not always the case. I did not inflict my point of view or beliefs on him, I only showed how we operate, and at the end of two weeks he came away with a new perspective.

I have felt a bit attacked by the last few posts on this thread, I am a Gun owner, I love knives, I believe in "The Right to Choose", and for the most part would call myself a Democrat. Do I believe everything Liberals believe? No! Do I agree with some Conservative policies? Yes.

I have to thank my parents for giving me a well-rounded upbringing. They showed me all sides of issues, ranging from politics, to Religion, to drinking, to how to eat, to treating friends, neighbors, and foes.

I understand stating your opinion and some good humored jibbing but I don't feel this is the place for it, and this Thread is way off track. Please lets get back to talking about steel.

And that's exactly my point - if anyone is pushing their beliefs, it's the other kids, not the professors. Professors have so much other crap occupying their days that they simply don't have the free time it would require to reprogram the hundreds of students who pass through their classrooms every semester.


Easier to blame the mythical "academic elite" than accept that your childrens' views might change and evolve as they age or experience new things.


I know for me, personally, I came from a slightly liberal background, and took on a far more libertarian bent when I entered college, and even that has changed as I've moved on from those days.

Of course, I also can't agree that the regulator is one amazing piece of steel. Since I've been using mine heavily for the last month or so, while all of you sat at home with no regulators, I've had to follow an agreement that I can't tell you all how amazingly awesome this blade is.

My Eyes dont like the black background with the white letters. I get a headache very quickly. I read here all the darn time I just cant stay long as it really hurts my eyes and my head. Dont know why.

Here's an old pic of the Tat. I not only love Scrapyard knives but I love the logo, I have since added to it. I felt no need to put "scrapyard" or "scrapyard knives" under or around it. If someone knows scrapyard....they'll know the logo! I'll have to get another picture as the one I have isnt at a good angle and my arm is kind of twisted a bit making it look not as good as it really does. I have other tats but am by no means "covered" in them.

If you click on "my home" up top there, and then on "display preferences" near the bottom of the "my home" page, you can change your display theme. The "scrap light" version might be less straining on your eyes. Worth a shot.

Yeah its not so bad. All that black just got blurry and my eyes and head started hurting. I think I like this much better. Thanks I never thought to look there.

Yeah, I use the gray background too. A LOT easier on the eyes. I think it should be the default setting. Those who haven't tried switching, give it a try.

I think it has to do with the fact the when I got the S5 I felt like "I already have a good small fixed blade... this one doesn't replace that". Also, I like good, stout work-horses, and the Reg looks like it'll be one for sure.

That is INCREDIBLY insecure. Email is very easy to intercept, and sent completely unencrypted.


NEVER, EVER put any personal information like your SSN or credit card numbers in an email. You should all be watching your account activity like a hawk for the next few months to make sure no one steals your CC info.

Been at the hospital since Monday (wife just had our first baby). Guess what I see on my porch as I walk up to my front door, a USPS box with a Regulator Bowie in it. This has already been the greatest week in my life, I can't think of a better way to cap it off. Thanks to everyone at Scrap Yard, what a great piece of steel!

My email from Renee asked if she could charge the same cc# they did with the S5, so no cc# was sent, they just used the one they already had.

You can help security with CC info if you send the #'s in 2 different e-m's. Send the first 8 numbers on one. Then the second set of #'s and the exp. date on the 2nd.

so we can't say how good/bad it performs for 6 mnths? i thought it was not discussing place of aquasition, price, and pic posts. suggestion: when having people fill out a non disclosure form, have a business size card with the agreement rules on it for those that dont sign thru email.

The document you signed stated no reviews or pictures, and I even believe it said something specifically about discussing through email.

I do agree that it would have been good to give two copies of the agreement to each person - one to sign and one to keep for our own records.

Just obey Mr Dan's Wishes and don't talk about the Regulator bowie, or take pic's that you want to show now!!! they will have to wait for X amount of time then you can post your pic's and post your review when Mr Dan say's so.

until then just keep it to yourself. if you have any review you can tell Ms Renee and Ms Patti in an email to them only, Mr Dan also, but the top 2 first from what i understand.

all the input will help Mr Dan know what he would need to do to change if any to the (RB).

you should just be happy that the yard thought enough of you and the others to be picked to test this (RB) for the yard. I am thankful that someone at the yard said let's let RT be in the test team. I will do what i agreed to and keep my trap shut for x amount of time, i know that is hard when you have the best blade known to man and you have to say nothing. we are the skunk works for the yard.

Thanks Renee! Now, if the wife and I could just get some sleep. We find ourselves snatching up every possible moment we can during the day to catch a quick nap.

I don't think we could've been any more ready than we were but we still felt unprepaired when he finally arrived. These are the greatest moments of my life!

Think I'll drop him off at his grandparent's so I can put this Regulator through it's paces.
