Those look great, TM. Was the steel under the paint very rough?

Oh, those are sweeeeet!
They're a beautifully shaped little blade and that bare nekkid steel just shows those sexy curves all the better.
Nice job TM.

Those naked 5s are nasty! Did you have to leave the acetone off of the handle and prop the knives up, or dangle them in the soak?
Were they clipped at the choil, because I can't really see a difference?

Vox & Horn Dog & Rackemup!
I used a bridgeport mill for the the clipping. Took off about .150
flopped it and milled to the scare line.. HA!!HA!!
The heat treat scale was pitted a little bout .010 thick. Not a big deal.
Just drop the whole thing in the acetone it made the paint soft had to scrap it
with a scotch bright pad. The handle didnt even flinch.. Who ever came up
with that recipe well,, It is awesome!!

Re: Stripped & Clipped Scrapper 5 Pics - 07/21/09 12:57 AM
I think it the break/angle where the slope starts to occur down towards the edge, It runs length wise and is were the light is catching in the middle of the blade?

Nice job and thanks for showing your work off. I really like the idea of the clipped resc. I was playing around with what you talked about and can see the advantage.

Tewlmakr,
Those look awesome.
I am still working on mine, but mine won't have the machinist precision of yours.
I have the mods done and mainly just trying to get the flats decent looking and final sharpening.
I wanted to mostly convex mine, but still leave some flats for a semi-saber look.
I will post pics when done. But, I can say I REALLY like my S5 with some minor mods. My S5 feels MIGHTY NICE in the hand right now.

Re: Stripped & Clipped Scrapper 5 Pics - 07/25/09 03:46 AM
I just used a diamond paste on a rag and a worn out BLUE scotch brite pad on
a 90 degree air grinder. You could use a cordless drill also. The blade
wouldnt have a tendency to get hot with the cordless drill. Didnt take much
paste just about dime size drop on the blade. Spread thin with your finger
then buff with a tube sock on your hand or with the drill.
You can find the paste on ebay or look on internet under diamond lapping
paste. Dont really need a bunch of different grits of paste. i used just
the medium and they came out like they did.
Hope this helps!!

Those came out really well. I especially like the clipped handle but would probably have beveled the edge a little to give it more of a finished look. Other than that they look great!
