car kept knives...

car kept knives... - 10/03/06 01:03 AM

I've heard a few folks talking about keeping blades(usually bigger types)in their cars/trucks,so I thought I'd throw out a word of caution/advice;if you(like me)like to keep a survival style blade in the truck, consider doing as I did- I found an old ammo type crate that fit under the seat and bolted it the the floor pan, then had a strong clasp welded to the lid so I could padlock it.That protected me in two ways:if the police ever questioned my having it in the vehicle,at least it was secured in manner that showed I was'nt just wheelin' around with a blade under the seat ...and,it made it really tough for someone to steal!

Great advise! Sounds like you may have run into issues with both of those?

I keep my RD9 with my tools in the cab...I hope they see the tools and associate it with them.

yeah,I understand that they are BRUTAL on people carrying knives over across the Pond.

Re: car kept knives... - 10/03/06 01:27 AM

I live in a country that traditionally has had no right to bear arms and has a government that concentrates on objects (guns and knives) rather than criminals using them... Pity.

Good idea with the crate and padlock however if your car crashes and you need that knife right away, having it locked like that will only delay your chance of survival.

Yep, a smallish fixed blade or folder can cut a seatbelt but it cannot pry open door or cut through the roof. There was an interesting artice few years back where one BF forumite and his buddy cut their way out through the roof of a smashed SUV. I'll post the artice sometime if I find it.

Greens - I remember that story being posted over at the Swamp; yes, he cut his way out with a Camp Tramp. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
I keep a Camp Tramp in my fold-down arm rest in my truck. I don't really worry about the Law having a problem with it, as I always have my pistol along also - benefit of a CCW permit. It's a shame that Paul and others in foreign countries - including Canada, have to worry about potential problems while being law-abiding citizens.

Now, I would GLADLY have a Scrap Yard BOWIE with me in my truck, if Dan will release it! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Greens - Thanks for reminding GF to mention that we want the BOWIE! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> We don't want Dan to think we're not interested in it anymore. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Re: car kept knives... - 10/03/06 05:26 AM

Again, luckily this is not a problem in IN. I can carry any sized knife I want, anywhere, open or concealed. Nanner Nanner. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> (Yer jealous as hell, I can feel it.) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Another option might be one of those small gun safe things that have the outlines for your fingers and you “type” in the code and the door pops open. I don’t know if they make them big enough or not. I’ve also seen one they make that reads your fingerprint and pops open. I think that might be better in an emergency, because if you are in shock or something, (from stress or injury) you might not remember the “code”. It would be more expensive than an ammo can, but it would be quicker to open in an emergency.

All those quotes kinda remind me of a topo map. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Looks like a mountain or something.

Ehh more like a mayan pyramid.

Thieves can steal my car carry knife, a 6 inch mora, if they really want it. I'm more concerned about my speakers and amps. And CAR!

It reminds me of the old Twilight Zone, or more recently "High Anxiety".

Yeah, that's what I thought. But I meant how on a topo map it shows a circle within a circle etc. to indicate increasing height.

I was agreeing with you also, that is what a mayan pyramid would look like on a topo map.
