Re: Poll: Scrapper 6 or Scrapper 7 ??? - 03/10/07 04:45 PM

I voted for the Scrapper 7, but the Scrapper 6 would be fine with me. There just isn't a huge difference in the knives.

Re: Poll: Scrapper 6 or Scrapper 7 ??? - 03/10/07 05:51 PM

I went with the scrapper 7 for purley selfish reasons too. I already have a scrapper 6. And since I've wanted a CT for a long time now it only makes sense to get the next best thing. However, I probably won't buy a scrapper 9 since I've already got a DF.

I would love a Scrapper 6 LE. Actually, I may concentrate on the pretty ones.
Just as soon as the DFLE comes out, I'm getting one.

I like the pretty ones too, Vic. I'm just a little concerned about preserving that much unprotected SR-77 steel, particularly knowing my maintenance habits (or should I say, the lack thereof). And then there's the price issue. I can probably buy the next two CGs Dan produces for the price of one DFLE.
I live on a salt water marsh. Non-stainless blades get a little oil now and then. I don't even mind a little light rust or patina on a blade. I just like the look of bare polished or satin brushed steel. If I were to be on an extended trip in the swamps or on the coastal islands, I would take a stainless or coated blade with me.

Scrapper 6 or Scrapper 7 ? hmm.. not sure.. - 03/10/07 07:03 PM

hmm.. is it me or does Camp Tramp look "shorter" than the Scrapper 7 above? Maybe CT has wider blade?
bld522, CT *is* 7.5" blade right?

Naturally I was gonna quickly vote for Scrapper 7 (cuz of CT)
BUT.. Scrapper 6 started whispering to me! Argh! these Voices!
dunno what to do!

7 1/2" Blade Length, 12 1/2" Overall, 1/4" Thickness, SR101 steel, Resiprene C handle, Released 2002 / Discontinued 2005.

would you really grab your scrapper 7 or camp tramp for those fish? scrapper 6 wouldn't be ideal either but it would bake things a bit easier.

LOL.. those *are* some nice lookin fish..
Hey maybe if the fish were trapped inside an upside-down jeep!

hmm.. i think you're right about Scrapper6.. prolly be a great baker's knife around the kitchen.. never know with some of those larger wedding cakes..

Re: Scrapper 6 or Scrapper 7 ? hmm.. not sure.. - 03/10/07 07:29 PM

The blade on the Camp Tramp dose not have as much clip on the top of the blade, the Scrapper 7 tapers more quickly making it apear to look long and skinny, unlike the camp tramp with a shorter fatter look.

I guess we will just have to wait until we can see the two blades side by side
By the way I Voted for a Scrapper 7.

I voted for the Scrapper 7, but only because I already have a Scrapper 6, but I really don't care all that much. I already have 2 Camp Tramps to scratch my 7 inch itch.

If Dan makes another run of the Scrapper 6, then I will get another one. If he makes the Scrapper 7 then I will get one of them too. When the DFLE comes out, I will also get one of them.

Looks like CT *does* have wider blade. James_bond is Right! ..makes her look short & fat! If he had lined up tops of handles in that pic, blade lengths would've been more relative. Scrapper 7 *should* slot in somewhere between the CT and the 6's.

p.s. i voted for Scrapper 6. It was whispering strongly to me!

Re: Scrapper 6 or Scrapper 7 ? hmm.. not sure.. - 03/10/07 08:12 PM

this poll tainted. psychology's wreaking havoc on the results. scrapper six is already available on the exchange forums and will be released again. people voting already have it so it's not a priority. camp tramp has legendary status but part of that is always blown up because it's not around anymore. true, people love their camp tramps, but they also love their rd7's, rat 7's, bk7's, and ratweilers. the tramp's the most elusive so it garners that unicorn character.

nice photo-chopping skills Magnum! puts 'em more in perspective

In real life.. CT would prolly be a bit longer/wider too.. most digi-cams' widish angle lenses tend to make closer objects bigger.

thanks for the chop bro,

you can see the slight difference in the distance to the lanyard hole from the blade. it exists but it doesn't have much presence.

I don't see the Scrapper 6 as a chopper per se...I see it as a great all around knife that can chop. For an "all arounder" I would much rather have the clip point than the recurve.

Thanks for the comparo, M22!

that was kinda the point. if the s6 ain't what you're lookin for, say you want more chop in the knife, then go mojo. it also distributes the products a little better. mojo 7 or 9, bring it.

Re: Scrapper 6 or Scrapper 7 ? hmm.. not sure.. - 03/10/07 11:45 PM

Sorry M22, not quite on the ball right now. Was wrestling with my son's new Xbox360 (birthday present) trying to get it connected to the TV.

Perhaps another consideration here is that one of the other Busse knife companies is rumored to be about to introduce a larger chopper style knife (actually 2 similar products). My bias is that I'd really like the SYK knifes to offer different blade shape alternatives to the other Busse knives, at least at the times both companies have knives in the market at the same time. Of course, this is ultimately Dan's call not mine.

Hmm best thing about the swamp these days is the logo goes on the blades.. That's the one thing Dan could take from them, the price and handle build of knives swamp should learn from Dan!

I voted for the S7, because 1/ I have a S6 and 2/ the S7 will be the new (improved) CT imho. Either would sell well though. I wonder if Dan will find any ATS34 (but don't wander off thread about that!!)

Sorry Paul, I couldn't resist!

Logos are nice and all but if the logo raises the prices and lengthens the delivery time on the base models, I'll pass! Logos on the LEs are fine by me.

NP Kraz! (I couldn't resist either but didn't want to hijack a good thread!)

You are right about logo's raising the price (and as they are just pretty, they ain't yard really!) but the logo is soooooo cool it's a shame it's not a cost option!

Anyway... I voted S7!

S6 or S7- no one really loses!

(If the S7 did come out I'd have a hard time justifying buying one, as so far I've told the wife I needed (ok wanted) a superb small, medium and large knife. So those are sorted.. Now the S7 could take over from my S6 but my S6 is bought and paid for.. I can't buy all of Dan's output and have to pick carefully)

If I didn't have any Dan knives yet I'd be screaming for the S7 next, it'll be the most 'user' blade Dan has done.

Re: Scrapper 6 or Scrapper 7 ? hmm.. not sure.. - 03/11/07 02:37 AM

I have tried to follow this thread, but its over my head! All things being equal, a 7" chops easier than a 6". A 6" is more compact and easier to carry. I really don't care, just so its a well-made knife, and SYKs are well made.

Oh I'm WITH you Kraz!!

2 looks at the knife, or 1 look in your wallet.. and you'll Know it's a ScrapYard!
Logo.. shmogo.. i don't need it.

I like how most DF's you see in pics are all Beaten like the bad dogs they are!

so i agree Kraz.. save the logos (and the higher cost) for the LE versions

I think the Dogs have the best time of any knife owners out there because they use their knives and they use them hard...thats the way it should be.

I appreciate all the input from the Yard

I want one of the new Swamp Rats. My concern with a fighter type knife with Res-C handles is that the knife would be blade heavy and not balanced. Any one have thoughts on that?

I would not worry to much about balance. Some of the best weapons are are a bit tip or edge heavy. In fact many Bowies balance 1-2 inches in front of the guard.
With practice you can get very quick with big knives and they hit soooo much harder than lighter knives.

I have heavy knives that balance pretty neutrally and are very quick. My Ranger RD-9 recurve is one.
